[moved]

Is this because all of the conversation is happening in the other thread? I am not up on protocol, my bad if I should have done myself.

No protocol :)
I was going to suggest one thread for the bigger picture but it's all mixed up anyways so...

Another bug imo:

if any of the Splinter "instances" have focus, and
windows showing in the taskbar area
taskbar is on autohide,
when the taskbar does show itself, it is *not* on top - it shows behind the windows.

Hi, the tutorial txt file should not, in any way, be looked to ever by splinter. Did you try to load IT as a splicon or something? It is not a splinterface, just a txt file...Posting now but will edit when finish reading rest with my answers

thanks for reply - no I hadnt tried to link to it in any way, but I dont get the error any more anyway.

Glad I caught one bug :)
I (and many others I'm sure) use Ctrl/Shift/Arrow shortcuts *very* often when typing. Universal shortcuts are a PIA - ideally they should be customisable cause you're almost always going to clash with something...

As usual with any new software I'm afraid I'm getting bogged down with the GUI/instructions. Very minor things really, but enough to bog me down all the same.

# First of all, I got an error on starting (this is the second time I started it - could have messed it up somehow last time) - but it seems to be running ok now anyway.
---------------------------
---------------------------
The file "C:\Portable\Splinter\Tutorial_and_Download_Links.txt" is either damaged or is of a wrong format

Exception "The input stream is not a valid binary format. The starting contents (in bytes) are: 2D-2D-2D-2D-2D-2D-2D-2D-2D-2D-2D-2D-2D-2D-2D-2D-2D ..."
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
as you can see it's portable version, Win7 64bit.

I followed instructions (http://spli-stuff.bl...p/dock-tutorial.html) as far as Step #2 (on image #7).
The configuration dialogue opens without "Splicon Enabled" selected - that was easy to figure out ;-)
You say to select the dock image - do you mean any image of our choice or a specific dock image (as shown in your screenshots?) I think you mean a specific one but cannot find it in the Splinter folder.
Stuck . . .

BTW I notice when I'm selecting text-words in FF using Ctrl+Shift+ArrowKey the "Triggers" flash.

That's my half hour used up, will try again later or tomorrow :)

If we do get space, i dont know how to access it. I cant find anything in my profile settings. I guess i could just keep updating here, but i just need to keep track of what thread i posted on to update that file each time. I should really build in an update function into my software.

Portable version starts okay here in Win 7 (shows in the tray). Not sure where to take it from there, but I'm closing down now so will try look at it again tomorrow

At one point it quit finding new messages at all. And 90% of the ones it did had only 1.3 megs. And "No, 235 * 1.3 megs is still piddly."

I send scanned contracts all the time, they're always 10 megs, doesn't mean I want to delete that email.

Heh my work email box is 25 gigs at 96% full.  : )

If you download all to an email client, and make a backup, couldnt you then start deleting the oldest mails?
(mind you that was my idea using mailstore but I think I have to make a second attempt there)

He posted here, just yesterday
Splinter - Turn your desktop into Wonderland

(I love the look(s) but dont think I'll be trying it, not bothered with customising much really tbh)

I've been trying out this script. It gets to about 235 entries on the spreadsheet and then it stopped finding anything else.

is it that it keeps stopping?
- you have to restart it. Iain says above somewhere how he worked around it, but I didnt get that far myself...

EDIT/ mind you if you deleted 235 entries with an average of 10MB (??) you'd have a nice bit of space.

Let me get this straight: Some companies/lobby groups/whatever got the UK government to require ISPs to block TPB and your response is to stop paying anybody for any* software?

I'm not sure that's an appropriate response.

Then again, maybe I shouldn'tjavascript:void(0); have even poked my head in here in the first place since I am not in favor of blocking TPB. :-\

How the heck do I get scrolling captures now with SSC?

via tray icon context menu, or use shortcut (shown there as well)**
Same as before actually :)

I'd recommend looking at the video thread Screenshot Captor 3 - Window Object and Scrolling Capture Screencast Videos

I was going to suggest using "datetime" instead of "date"+sequential numbering.
but I see that doesnt work either - for format Screenshot - %datetime% I get:

I do not want to open a new threat so will ask my question here. How to delete the duplicate url links from txt files so, that the remaining links would stay in the same order as before (no sorting)?

I suspect this got lost here panzer -
it might be worth making a new threa[t/d] in coding snacks/new requests ...

Looks good, looks fun too :)

Are you the author? - if so well done, if not, nice find

You scared me with that title.  I thought it meant command prompts

I read that the same way!  :D

I read it as Consolas the font - couldnt get my head around it...

The FARR result is not perfect yet - does not show the .lnk name. How do I force that?

It does here - could that possibly depend on your Windows Explorer settings (hide file extension- or not) ?**

Icons are not shown here in FARR, dont know why, but it doesnt really bother me - I know where there coming from then...

** EDIT/  or maybe in FARR under display settings?

Are you sure FARR reads that folder?

I made the "god folder",
then I made the shortcuts here (by alt dragging contents of god folder):
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\GodMode_Shortcuts

FARR can read them

Then there's Sagelight - the author, Rob Nelson, has posted a lot in Sagelight threads e.g. here. It's currently $40 for lifetime upgrades.

Veering away from dc:
here's another one that looks interesting, open source, I downloaded it lately but havent tried it yet PhoXo. CNet review here.

How about RealWorld Paint 2011.1 finally complete

RWPaint is a free image and animation editor focused on bloggers and other people who work with pictures and animations online. Notable features include:
  • Support of layers with styles.
  • Import and export of .psd, .xcf, .pdn formats with layers and in case of Photoshop also with some styles (is there any other non-Adobe image editor that imports layer styles?).
  • Many drawing tools (pencil, image brush, rectangle, ellipse, lasso, polygon, flood fill), and photo-retouching tools (red eye remover, clone, shape-shifter (liquify-like) tool).
  • All basic image effects (shadow, fill, outline, bevel, glow, exposure adjustments, content-aware resizing, colorize, shift hue) and some less usual ones like displace or environment mapping. Plus a javascript interface for custom filter creation.
  • Decent gif optimizer.
  • Animation <-> filmstrip conversions.

I see the author got in ahead of me but I may as well post anyway...

General Software Discussion / Re: Software for use with scanner?
« Last post by tomos on May 02, 2012, 07:54 AM »
Thread Resurrection:

when I moved to Windows 7 I ended up with two scanners which arent supported.
I ended up getting VueScan basic version, I only tried it with one scanner and it works fine.

A bit expensive for my needs (I rarely scan) but preferable to buying even more hardware...

Take a look at VueScan  http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html. Says it supports 750 flatbed and film scanners.

I think it's about $40 with a Pro version for about $80.

Old thread (that I started) link here:
Software for use with scanner?
- might still give you a couple of ideas of the kinds of software that is on offer e.g. PaperPort which is about scanning *and* document management, but costs accordingly. But lots of other small/smaller softwares. I didnt find anything I was very happy with but I had different requiremants to you.

It could also be beneficial to remove MemTurbo4 to see if the system is more stable without it. Software like this usually does a smoke and mirrors act, nothing useful.

There was another thread on this subject recently, with a better explanation, I'll try to find it. (edit: didn't find it, too many posts...)

Heven't seen anything about cache optimizing, but there was a very interesting & informative series of posts about memory use, by db90h, in this thread:
FreshMem

Wow, if you go to back it, you see that

  • one person has donated $10,000+
  • Eight people have donated $5,000+

Nice to see someone very creative doing well. But I guess that's why she's doing so well, because she's so creative, not only in the music.

@IainB, could it be that you have a virus?
It looks clean here...
6075
Maybe you have a virus

who, me ??? :P :)

if so neither app found anything. I know that doesnt necessarily mean much. Avira (av-pro) was last year, it always slowed things down all round - too much for my liking, also, it was on a different machine. MS seems to take a lot more CPU than it used to, and it often stalls Firefox when e.g. I'm downloading or opening a file, it usen't do this before (there was always a little lag, like with any real-time scanning). This could also be todo with new version of FF. I haven't really been keeping a good record of things so cant be sure...
Maybe I'm just being a fussy beggar ;-) it's nothing I cant live with.
