I'm dissapointed that no one from DonationCoder entered this.

No one? Including the one who suggested participation?

Because of the reinstall restrictions for Vista, I don't feel like I can freely install programs. After so many reinstalls, you have to buy the darn OS again!

I have never heard of this before. Quite frankly: You are scaring me!  :o
Will you (any of "you") please tell what this is about?  :tellme:

Do You Purchase Software on Impulse?

Every program I have (except for Office 2003 and security programs) was bought on impulse
- discounted or not.

A bigger problem may be that I don't actually need all these programs...

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: toolbar with spec character links
« Last post by Curt on February 11, 2008, 07:38 AM »
Thanks, jgpaiva.

Why does it have to be an icon? Why can't it be the actual character on the button?

Suddenly I remember why I asked for icons in the first place. I sometimes have to quote in ancient Greek, but too often I cannot remember the difference between eta, theta and zeta (I don't "know" Greek), and others. This is where an icon is ideal because of the tooltip telling me the proper name.

Can skrommels version show tooltips?   :tellme:

...  I wonder what the farthest is?

- as far as I can see they are not telling, but:

Mark Says:

A person I know who is ranked in the top ten is over 900m, and says a volcano is involved. Yes, he has the screenshot of his score to prove it. Obviously there’s a certain way to throw it that will make a huge difference, and not many people have found it.
-Mark

>900m!!  :o  There certainly is more to be found - if the guy was telling the truth:

Iain Says:

May 31, 2007 at 9:39 pm
There have been a few questions about the genuine longest throw. We haven’t had time to look in the database for a definative answer, but during some testing on the new version (coming soon), we noticed that an accidental test throw of 129m was ranked at 239 globally. We have no idea at this point as to how anyone has thrown further than this even with the technique above but it does appear that some people have gone further than we thought possible (around 120m). We will try to figure this out soon and post back. - Amnesia

"around 120m" - sounds more likely.

# me Says:

ActuallyI don’t think that you can get past 125.999. I am now ranked at 531 at 125.771m. Keep dropping in rankings everyday. I do believe that it is now just the luck of getting the plane in just the right spot when throwing and hitting the keys at just the right moment. good luck Dave 1.

# Gary Says:
February 6, 2008 at 1:41 am

Hey “me” that might be knocking you down at he 125.777 mark ? . I can hit it about 70% but since I got 125.802 on Jan 18th and the rank of 44th still holds even playing a couple or more hours a day unable to get passed that 125.8__ M mark but it does keep the mind off the snow out side. Keep playing I know I will til I see #1 Ha Ha.
Gary

# me Says:
February 6, 2008 at 3:59 am

Seems like there is a very fine line between 125 and 125.999. I hit it at a high percentage of the time also. Just have to figure out the exact time to release at the end. My reflexes just aren’t what they use to be but I’ll get it eventually. Don’t feel bad if you end up with 125.998 and #2 and I end up with 125.999 and #1

- so not "over 900m" but <126m
"me" wrote > hitting the keys at just the right moment <, so there must be another cheat:

S M says: you have to select ’show all’ when your zoom in on the distance readings when it reached about 124m if you leave it to late it runs onto infinity-ish. The key thing is to exit through the window as high as u can. Start plane at very top left so u can see just the nose, move left the outside the main screen click and release and then move around the outside of the screen. enter on the rhs about 5 red dashes up, if u look carefully there’s a faint white line put the cursor just to the underside, the plane should exit through the window looking as if going to hit the wall above the window. Now the plane is really moving right click and zoom in over the distance read out, i usually place the cursor on the ‘units’ digit right click and zoom until you can see just the ‘tens’ and ‘units’ wait till u go thro the 100 distance and when ur at say 18 ie 114 right click poised to hit ’show all’ when you get to 124 -ish ie u can see 24 click ’show all’ u’ve got to be quick though other wise leave it to late and you fly into oblivion, click to soon and you’ll end up with only a poor score list 123 m or so !!!!
If u go into a black hole - lol just right click again and it select ‘ play’ I’m ranked 25th
-S M

- I think this zooming in and out is weird. I won't even bother to try.

General Software Discussion / Re: Firefox Extensions: Your favorite or most useful
« Last post by Curt on February 07, 2008, 05:30 PM »
Oh, I forgot to tell that the primary reason I installed Firefox again is the program Firefox Preloader which CyberNet News just wrote about. The preloader is from February 2005 but is working okay with both Firefox 2 and 3, and I cannot understand why 'no-one' have told about it before. Of course you might not care for Firefox Preloader if you are running Vista with Superfetch enabled, but on my XP the preloader does magic. Nothing less!

(...) the open source Firefox Preloader. It can be set to startup when you turn your computer on, and with it Firefox will always be at your beckon call. If there are multiple versions of Firefox installed on your computer you can decide which one you would like it to work with.

This feature does come at a cost though. When the preloader first started up on my computer it used about 4MB of memory itself, and Firefox was using about 10MB. Those aren’t drastic numbers, but for those of you conscious about the memory usage you might want to think twice before using the preloader. Also, when you close Firefox it doesn’t actually close all the way, instead it’s just tucked away so that it will still start quickly the next time you go to use it.

Two of the many things I like about Maxthon 1.6 ("Classic") are 1) the Maxthon Start Page which gives me my recent favourite links at once, and 2) the extra toolbar with shortcuts to programs of my own choice.

MaxStart.gif

max.gif

----

All Customized Links is an "okay" substitute for half of the Maxthon Start Page, so my biggest problem with Firefox is that the only add'on I have found that comes close to the toolbar for "fav progs" is Launchy, and the author gave up updating this program two years ago, even though I think it still needs a lot in userfriendliness. The prime feature of Launchy is still working fine, but it is a nightmare to add links to other programs if you are not a coder. And it is for such a feature, links to other programs, I became interested in the first place.

So I came here to ask if 'you' know of a program / an add'on that will add such a feature to Firefox, making it easy to reach my favourite programs from the inside of Firefox 2, please?

General Software Discussion / Re: Quizo QTTabbar
« Last post by Curt on February 07, 2008, 07:58 AM »
How does DMEXBar stack up against Quizo (or should it be the other way around)?

For me it was not a question about one or the other, but if they can live together. I saw a few features in DMEXBar that would further amplify Explorer beyond what QT already does - if they would just cooperate.

Version History:

Because of public demand I will try to add a version history, here. This may be incomplete. There are always quite some bug fixes. These I do not mention.

Version 12:

- Destination directory menu for file commands contains list of other explorer paths.
- Attach explorer window function (Two aligned explorer windows behave the same way when minimizing, restoring, closing and activating).
Choose "Attach..." for any of both aligned explorers.
- File filter. View only files in Explorer matching a file mask.
Enter a file mask and choose "Filter files". The input filed is shaded blue to remember you that not all files are shown.
- Grip to move DMEXBar toolbar to the left in case not all buttons are visible.
Move the grip to show buttons which moved out of the window to the right.

- Enhanced standalone synchronize tool.
Look at the file "sync-example.sync" to study all options.
- DMEXFav and DMEXDir toolbar backgrounds are themed.
- DMEXFav has enhanced drag & drop and managing functions.
- DMEXDir has a drop down menu on the right side to go to the last visited directories (history).
Left click on the dot in the DMEXDir toolbar.
- DMEXDir has right click subdir menus for each of the buttons (only if not flat toolbuttons are used).
Right click on any of the directory buttons.

- Viewer allows Drag & Drop of files.

Version 13:

- French translation
- Enhanced standalone synchronize tool by adding awizard to create synchronize files for automation. Run Sync.exe.
- Transporter tool and "Transport to..." command.
- DMEXDir and DMEXFav enhanced.

I cannot offer you genuine dual pane, but two panes... ehh... two windows!

hmmm..: why did the screencapture loose the text? I swear: it was there! But I am not going to reinstall the program just in order to show these options - sorry!
dmexplorer.gif

And now I should display the picture of two alligned windows but I cannot do so, because DMEXBar didn't work in my Quizo'ed setup. I would sure like [hint] 'someone' to test if the problem is my XP only or if QTTabbar and DMEXBar just cannot cooperate [/hint]. But at least DMEXBar is said to be working okay in a normal Explorer.

Unfortunately I think you can only find DMEXBar at the somewhat deranged SIMTEL:
http://www.simtel.ne...b_product_page=59298

The program has not been updated for more than a year, and thus may be abandoned.

Which kind of internet connection do you have?

I am not sure how to translate this into English, so I ask for your help on this, f0dder: "Hybrid kabel tv (TDC's webspeed)", for both Internet and telephone. TDC's spamfilter is very fine, but I don't think they filter or protect anythjing else.

But thanks for the warning; I will probably re-install my firewall very soon.

- yes, Darwin. I disabled XP's firewall right out of the box.

I had (and have) a Outpost Pro license, so I never gave XP's firewall any second thought. When I decided that I also should test firewalls as well as many other kind of programs, I soon came to the conclusion that it was too much trouble for almost nothing, so I stopped using any firewall at all.

For half a year my XP has now been without any firewall at all. And no router (whatever such a thing may be!?). Only NOD32, and now also ThreatFire. Whenever I test a firewall I seem to end up thinking it is not worth the hazzle. But of course, today I don't download from dubious places like I used to... back then I really needed all the security I could get! So maybe the security problem is more about being cautious about where to go and what to download?

Not because I expect it to be noticable slower than 1.6 but because I am getting used to the fastest Internet browser I have ever met: ThunderBrowse! Wow!!
