If I open Screenshot Captor's main window, change focus to another window, and then attempt to make a screenshot of a selected area, the focus goes back to the SC window.
i.e. I can only sucessfully take screenshots of selected area when SC main window is closed.

I'm using the full screen crosshairs & preview box but I've experienced this bug since well before they were introduced (but not sure exactly how long).

Screenshot Captor / Ability to take screenshot of Admin windows? (Win7+UAC)
« Last post by tomos on May 23, 2012, 07:28 AM »
I thought this was mentioned before but could not find it:

I'm wondering if it's possible to take a screenshot of Admin windows when using Win7 (64bit) and UAC at the highest level. I mean apps that require UAC approval to start.
AFAIK SC would have to be running "as admin" as well - would it be possible to temporarily elevate it's priviliges? or is that possible (I know DOpus can do it, but that doesnt mean SC can - or that it's worth the effort...)

TIA :)

DC Website Help and Extras / Re: Usability (i.e. mercy) suggestion?
« Last post by tomos on May 21, 2012, 08:26 AM »
I think the point is that you dont know from the app name what it does. Hence the suggestion of a tooltip.
Although the names certainly give an idea of what each app is about...

For important work, I use FileHamster (FH) - it will archive a copy of your file when you save it - lots of other apps do this, often even better than FH, but FH has the ability to save a note with each backup version. Also it has a reasonable viewer for looking at your backup/related-notes. It works reasonably well and has great potential imo, but neither the general public nor the developers seem interested in extending it (e.g. via tagging of files). See here for more details of my usage if you're interested. You'll need the full "Advanced" paid version (I think there's a trial).

I use Directory Opus file manager, but there are other (& possibly free ones).

I used to use Karen Kenworthy's Directory Printer but that hasnt been updated since 2009 (and wont be updated in the future) - dont know if it works with Windows 7, I used it on XP fine

Shortcut in Startup folder.

Do I place only the .exe file in the startup folder or the entire Locate32 folder?

Alt+drag the exe to the startup folder (that creates a shortcut)
or right-click the exe & "create shortcut" - that's usually made on the desktop. You can them move it.

There are lots of (free) apps for checking/managing apps that start with windows.

I used use Codestuff Starter, but havent installed it yet on this machine (I notice the website doesnt mention windows 7. There is a portable version there though so easy to try out.)

Oh, and 'separator' only has 1 e, but 2 a's :-[

I had to double check that one - probably been misspelling it for years..

My memory of hearing that separator has "a rat" in it has outlasted my memory of the name of the teacher who taught me that.

sounds memorable all right :)
- but our problem is with the "par" as opposed to "per". Could remember it via golf (par) but not even half as memorable as a rat ;-)

It's a nice mix, isnt it ;)

If a video is shown here it will show a link below the video - as seen on donationcoder - the link goes to the page you're showing. I think if the video is shown elswhere in the meantime, the dc link is replaced by a new one.

From the Policy section: "Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for the lifetime of the product."

sorry, I wasn't fully clear -
I already have a license & am wondering what the upgrade cost will be for that

hi David, sounds good.

couple of queries:

1. what exactly is double Ctrl ? (pressing the two Ctrl keys simultaneously? or tapping it?)
2. do you know are the hotkeys customisable?

thanks, Tom

wondering what their upgrade pricing will be with version 4. (I know it's a steal anyway...)

One thing I've done on this and last machine:
Two drives (at least), one for the OS, one for data.

First (OS) drive of 1 or 2TB has two partitions:
      Partition 1. OS - say 100GB for Win.7
Partition 2. remaining space - I use this *only* for backup from Drive #2 - i.e. it is rarely used.

Advantages being that, with this setup, Drive #1 is normally only used by the OS. Also, the first (relatively small) partition on a large drive is supposed to be very fast. I'm certainly happy with it (but also happy with 8GB memory & i5[whatever] CPU *and* the remaining space on Drive #1 for backup)

* Deozaan wonders how tomos got a "javascript:void(0)" in his quote.

wondering myself now :D
unfortunately I am unable to reproduce it.

I didnt do that intentionally ... & cant see how I would have done it unintentionally :-\
but you're right - it works:
javascript:void(0);

I didnt notice it being bigger or anything - I think that often has more to do with the atmosphere.

Here's one. 10x zoom, pocket camera.
Settings (manual): F13; 1/125sec; ISO 80  (exif data is included)
You need to rest the camera on something or use a tripod.

All I did after taking the picture is crop - it's a bit dark really...

here's it a bit brighter
