I already suggested Kompass UK
have you researched similar sites? is it the most extensive?
I used to use paper Kompass directories when I was at work, and later used their online service via the Dialog host system.  They offer a long-established and useful set of directories, usually one per country.  We used industry-specific directories like the one produced annually by Polymers Paint Colour Journal more often, but for general queries Kompass was our first call.

also the problem is I can't seem to find a way to filter results by country (I only need companies with UK presence)
I haven't used their free Web version, but, we're talking about Kompass UK.  Hence it will lists companies with a local UK presence, including UK subsidiaries of international companies.

I already suggested Kompass UK to you in another, similar thread.  Their records contain links to the company Web sites.

I think the Oxford dictionaries work on "historical principles," which means that they record how the language is being used and include new words as soon as they are established.  They aren't trying a top-down enforcement of Proper English.

« Last post by rjbull on August 30, 2013, 03:42 PM »
@IainB:

You clearly state you used Universal Viewer Free.  Have you been tempted to upgrade to the payware version with its extra formats?

Quite a lot of sticky notes programs can attach notes to specific windows too, most of them payware but including the free ZhornSoftware Stickies, and the notes part of PowerPro.  Were you specifically looking for a free solution?
605
The thing is that I want to have :
- foldernames, sizes, dates, paths
- of subfolders only (not files)
- that are on multiple partitions/drives
I tried putting "directory listing csv" into DuckDuckGo and found quite a lot of relevant postings.  One that might suit you is List Maker (I haven't tried it).  But I think that whatever application you use, you will have to run it multiple times to cover multiple drives.  That's why I'd suggest a command line tool, because then you can put it into a batch file to run it as many times as you want with however many drives you have.
606
the menu captions are only intended to be one line long.
End of non-bug report  :-[

I see now your template has both %ExcerptText% and %CllipText% in it.
And you may be seeing that %ClipText% is fine and has the proper newlines.
And that it is only the EXCERPT that has the \n in it.

If *that* is what you are saying (or seeing), then that is by design.  The excerpt is meant to be a short one line thing.  %ClipText% is the actual text of the clip properly formatted with newlines.
Yes, that does seem to be what I'm seeing.  It looks like I'd better replace %ExcerptText% with %WindowTitle% as being closer to what I wanted.  What I was trying for was the first line of the clip without the app title, to be used as the heading for what gets pasted.

I presume that's why I'm seeing \n and \t in the popups, because they're excerpts?
608
can you make sure that even if the item is say the 3rd one down in your ctrl+alt+q quick paste menu, that the newlines paste properly if you trigger the pasting of item 3 from the quick paste menu (by hitting ctrl+alt+q and then hitting 3) but fails if you trigger it from the menu asking to paste via template?
I used the 8th one down because that was a Web clip, whereas the more recent ones were text editor.  Yes, Ctrl+Alt+Q, 8, pastes normally; but Ctrl+Alt+Q, cursor to 8, Shift+Click, choose my template, pastes with \n.  But I've just realised something I should have seen before - this only happens with the title line.  That is, normal paste gives this:

But using my template gives this:
Benjamin Black\n\nA pseudonym used by\nJohn Banville\nSearch Authors\n\nSearch Books\n\n \nAbout Ben

(this is part of the FantasticFiction record at http://www.fantastic...uk/b/benjamin-black/)

The rest of the text pastes normally.
609
If you just paste through CHS without using template, does it paste with proper newlines or the \n problem?
Proper newlines.

And can you check if in CHS itself the clip has newlines in the clip or \n.
If you mean in Main window the window that shows the body text of the clip, it shows newlines, not \n.

In other words, do we have reason to believe its the template system instead of something happening every time CHS pastes or something happening at time of capture?
That seems to mean a problem with the template system?

Living Room / Re: HELP PLEASE
« Last post by rjbull on August 29, 2013, 03:32 PM »
I think the category that might help you is called "assistive software."  One source of assistive programs is FX Software, here in the UK.  Quite a few applications designed to help people with imperfect sight.
611
I cannot reproduce this -- can you check again and see if you detect any pattern to when it might be displaying as \n instead of pasting the real newlines?
Using CHS 2.20.01, c:\NoInst\ClipboardHelpAndSpell\
ClipboardHelpAndSpell.exe   10196152   2013.8.29   8:55.52
MD5 991ac7b09eb41f237df9a9c154ff6723

Using NoteTab Pro plain text editor as the "catching" application, the one to paste into.  Workflow: clip from app using mouse.  Alt-Tab to NoteTab Pro.  Standard Ctrl+V paste.  Open new file.  Ctrl+Alt+Q for CHS popup, Additional actions on last clip, cursor down to my own template as posted above, paste again and compare.

Standard Ctrl+V paste works as expected.  The "\n problem" (which also shows "\t" on occasion) only happens with clips from Web browsers; I tried both Firefox and Opera.  It doesn't happen with either NoteTab Pro itself or an RTF word processor, Polyedit, pasting into NoteTab Pro.  The "\n" and "\t" always show in the popup even if not pasted as such, though I presume that's by design, to show more of the content.

If there's something wrong with my own template, what is it?  Do templates need an end delimiter, or is the "@" that starts the next one enough?

Further:

On the popup, if you want Additional actions for clips before the current one, you have to Shift+Click.  For us keyboard users, please could you make the Windows Menu key do the same thing?

Minor typo on the Paste Templates section of Options: "templlate" should be "template."  That's the last word above the template menu box.

i.e., those \n are still coming out as-is, not being converted to "real linefeeds."

mouser,

Thanks for putting up the portable beta clearly.

I just copied the new/newer files from the archive over the portable directory, not bothering with identical ones.

Actually I think they are designed to list/print the contents, however, not just the folderpaths/foldernames/size/date-time

ExamDiff Pro, $34.99.  The free version doesn't offer what you want.  A possible drawback of ExamDiff Pro is that it uses plug-ins to convert Word files and PDFs to text before comparing them (I don't know how Compare It! or Beyond Compare work).  If you are trying to compare a Word DOC with a PDF, this may mean that what is in fact the same text isn't well enough aligned to make the difference checking engine work sensibly.  In that case, you might try printing your Word DOC to a PDF and comparing the two PDFs.
616
You might get some mileage from the Unix "LS" command.  A port of the brute command line version is included GNU utilities for Win32 (UnxUtils.zip), but I don't think it does CSV natively.  However, there's a WinGUI version of LS that does.  It's been mentioned on DC numerous times, including:
A minor problem is that this LS doesn't exit cleanly, it appears to crash on exit!  But it still works well.

Have you tried any of the sticky notes programs?  Some of them can attach to other windows, and can be set to be semi-transparent.

Examples:
  • Stickies
by Zhorn Software - the most famous freeware one, mentioned on DC before
  • Magic Notes
    payware, the one I use
  • Notezilla
payware, also often mentioned on DC
  • TurboNote+
    free and payware versions

You might try Kompass UK Free UK Business Directory, but it looks like you'd have to manually filter by area, at least in the free version.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Reset to defaults
« Last post by rjbull on August 21, 2013, 04:55 PM »
in the installed version, there's only a "ConfigDir.ini" file in install folder.
I have:
c:\NoInst\ClipboardHelpAndSpell\
ClipboardHelpAndSpell.ini
ClipboardHelpAndSpell_UserTools.ini
ConfigDir.ini
ConfigDir_Default.ini
ConfigDir_Sample.ini

user folders are always a bit of a lottery (/nightmare) I find - too many options/directories.
Too right  :(  How about using Everything or another file finder?

@tomos:
I have an INI file, but, I'm running CHS as portable, and as you'd expect it's in the same directory as the .EXE.  Are you getting caught out by the Virtual Store or something?

@dcwul62:
Might you have a hotkey conflict with another program?  Have you tried disabling everything, then putting keys back one by one?  Are you using the latest version of CHS?  Mine says it's v2.19.01.  For what little it's worth, a screenshot of my minimal hotkey list is attached.

I don't think there is a "Reset to Defaults," but it might be a good idea if there were.  Mouser?

Otherwise, though, where did all the "Geen" entries come from?  My non-active keys all say "None."  You get that by putting the cursor in the box and pressing Backspace.  Or is "Geen" just another language?

your are right, but perhaps you may excuse my error
;D

But you can't memorise everything (especially as you get older).  So why not offline some of your memory, and start by searching DC?  Or use Google, or DuckDuckGo, either of which might well turn up a DC thread anyway?

I tried PTFB today, but it was a little bumpy and didn't take care of the screen I wanted it to.
Which version, free, which is getting old now, or latest payware?  As I discovered PTFB first, I've never used ClickOff, but it's hard to argue with the price...  RtvReco's been briefly mentioned on DC a few times before.

Another suggestion: PowerPro, which can do this sort of thing amongst much else, if you can work out how.

@Contro:
Did you forget you already talked about ClickOff in Program to control program?
