General Software Discussion / Re: Directory Opus 10
« Last post by J-Mac on September 17, 2011, 09:25 PM »
When I first upgraded I restored the backup of DO9's config immediately so it looked the same. However as I came across little things here and there that didn't work right and I'd post about it on the DO forum, Leo would always tell me to do something that didn't seem to exist on my copy of DOpus 10. He asked if I had restored a config from DO9 and then said that a lot of items that should be available in 10 were not available to me because of that. So I changed the UI to the DOpus 10 default and then had to spend a couple hours - at least - creating new buttons for the toolbars, etc. Major pain in the ass!

But now DO 10 is giving me fits. Date/time columns just never stay wide enough, no matter how I configure them I end up having to double click on the column header divider to expand them. I have the width set in the Path Settings but that doesn’t guarantee anything. And the Content Recognition still works like crap. Doesn’t recognize the percent of images, etc. and change the display accordingly. Plus now whenever I copy or move files - even just one or two small files - DOpus consumes 35 - 40% CPU and continues to do so for several minutes. All crap that never occurred with DOpus 9, though mention it on their forum and Leo is quick to insist that "nothing changed with that in 10". Somehow I just don’t believe him. Too many users complaining in the forum!

Thank you.

Well, I made the mistake of updating to DOpus 10 early and now after trying to tolerate its endless little niggling bugs and changes that don’t really help me at all, I really wish I had just stuck with DOpus 9. I am thinking seriously about downgrading back to DOpus 9. Has anyone here gone back to V.9? Any problems or difficulties?

Thanks!

Thanks Mr. Waggle! I really appreciate the fact that you think enough to report back to us when something is ready like this. And I look forward to DMS!

Thanks again!

I did use this service for a couple years back in 2006-2007. I had a premium account and it basically served as an Exchange server for me. It was pretty decent but then they changed their pricing structure and that chased me away.

Thank you.

mouser, appyface:

I remember I changed my settings to eliminate the Aero effects surrounding whatever image I captured; not a problem with it - I just didn't really need to capture that. The instructions aren't very clear as to what specific settings will result in what effect; at least not to my limited knowledge of these effects. So I just systematically selected and deselected the settings in Window Capture 1 and 2 plus the Red Box Capture Mode until my captures looked "clean" IMO. Unfortunately I can't say which specific combination of settings showed which effects! I do know that all of the updates since then don’t seem to have altered the look of my captures.   :)

Thanks!

Running 2.99.02 on Win7 Pro SP1 x64.

When I screenshot "active window" I now also get a large frame (border) of the background all around the active window.  Did not have this in previous version, only the active window was captured as I expected.

How to fix?

Hi Appyface!

Try this: Go to Edit>Preferences and look at the following three sections:  Window Capturing 1, Window Capturing 2, and Red Box Capture Mode. These have options related to Aero and some apply borders around the capture. You might have to experiment a little to find the method that suits you.

I just downloaded and installed this from the GAOTD site. I have seen this promoted before but never gave it much though. Looks like a nice program, plus the developer has been here and apparently - from what I have read - is very nice and sincere. Which is a big plus in my book!

Well, maybe this can replace a few of the 21 notes programs currently installed on my box.   :-[  (I know - I'm a weird notes junkie!)

Thanks!

Chris,

The two line feeds you see after "Two quick comments:" and the bulleted items are not a part of the list. The tag to start the list is immediately before the first bulleted item and the end-list tag is immediately after the second bulleted item. The only way to move the image down and not have it almost on top of the list was to enter the period on each line.

Thank you.

That's not working here.  :(

Thank you.

Hmmm...  Written on the image after the fact and not on the car?   8)

EDIT:  Then again, on closer examination, I believe you DID write it on the car!!

Okay... I have 2 questions.

1. Have you people completely lost you minds?!?

2. Where do I get a bumper sticker of that first one?

I haven't contributed but only because I could never come up with the quality of images that everyone else has! However I did egg everyone on to continue because for whatever reason I am really loving this thread now!!   :-*   :P

Thanks!

OK - stupid posting questions:

In the above post I had to eventually add periods on the lines after the List and before the uploaded image; otherwise no matter how many line feeds I added between them the image was butting right up against the last list line. Is there a more aesthetic way to ensure space between lists and images?

Same with spacing between list items in a list - if a list is fairly long it helps to add a line feed between line items, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to do that. Is there one that I am missing?

Thank you.

Hi all.

Two quick comments:

  • I usually click the "Check All" box in Revo Free and let it select all related registry keys; Revo hasn’t messed up yet that I can tell. At least no bad effects apparent. Like Curt mentioned above, though, if I have other programs by the same developer I then click very little or sometimes none at all as I fear they may be shared with the other programs.
  • I just clicked the "AutoUpdates" button in my copy of Revo Free and there is also a 50% discount offer there, for licenses for one or three computers. Screen cap below:

Link for the one computer "Buy Now" button is https://revouninstaller.plimus.com/jsp/buynow.jsp?contractId=2809072&quantity=1

(Notice the offer for Registry Booster 2011? Don’t click that button! Hopefully that crap disappears with the Pro version!)

Thank you.

Now here is an example of a big confidence game sham... errr..... world economy in action... Zimbabwe in 2008 - 2009!

http://www.cato.org/zimbabwe

A quote from that article at the CATO Institute web site:
New Hyperinflation Index (HHIZ) Puts Zimbabwe Inflation at 89.7 Sextillion Percent

And even a handy chart:

[attachimg=#1][/attachimg]

And here is a pic of the largest denomination currency note in the world! (Well, actually a few of them; I use them for a magic effect where I instantly change these to $2 bills!   :)  ):

Now that is a sham!

I'm still a bit gun shy regarding the Themida anti-piracy software that gets installed with it.

are you talking about the Advanced Font Viewer there Jim?

Comes with all the products they sell, AFAIK.

I'm still a bit gun shy regarding the Themida anti-piracy software that gets installed with it. Most of the security sites are still wrestling with that; is it reasonable? Or does it provide too large a security risk? I don’t know but it does bother me knowing it's there.

Anyone here better versed in Themida and willing to offer some info?

Screenshot Captor / Re: Scrolling capture is not working
« Last post by J-Mac on September 06, 2011, 11:32 AM »
That might solve one problem, but if you look at the links above to my prior posts about the scrolling capture issues, they started in December 2007 and there is another there from July 2008. That is well before anyone was running Windows 7, so my guess is that the themes are just an ancillary problem on top of the base problem. Of course I don’t know what the base problem is; just that I still suspect nVidia GeForce graphics cards and/or drivers, possibly also involving hardware acceleration.

Thank you.

This behaved much nicer than it usually does in a browser - FF, Chrome, or IE - but the numbers are messed up here also. I started to mark them but there are more than I thought. Take a look:

mouser, since not everyone has this happen - it seems to be system-specific - and you hadn't been able to actually replicate this behavior, I didn't think it was even available for you to fix. Have you now been able to produce this behavior?

BTW, when I say "system-specific" I am thinking hardware-related, with the graphics card the most likely suspect. I have a fairly high-end (though kinda old) card: nVidia GeForce 8800-GT, and it seems to be designed to be in conflict with as many other programs/drivers as possible. Boy, when nVidia sets out to screw something up they always show that they are the best in that category!

Thanks!
