FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FARR Plugin: TimeZone [Update version 1.3.2]
« Last post by Perry Mowbray on February 13, 2010, 06:48 AM »
I had put the TimeZone plugin into a folder called "FARRTimeZone".

Ah, yes... that's why the installation instructions say:
Installation
Download the zip file and extract it into FARR's Plugin directory.

Mine says 1.2.1 - no updates available?   :o

I think that's just the continent you live on -- you've had dcUpdater issues before I think?

You can install from the download in the first post if you want.

Not me, I don't speak Norwegian!  ;)

Yes, if your timeanddate.com language is English you shouldn't have issues. But the new version gives the option of more than 5 favourites (if you want them  ;))

Find And Run Robot / Re: Suggestion: arrow keys to scroll result list
« Last post by Perry Mowbray on February 12, 2010, 07:20 AM »
Been working with phitsc on WebbMetaSearch (thoroughly wonderful plugin BTW) and he's added status bar buttons for navigating paginated web pages.

I suggested a similar feature for navigating the result pages and he rightly said that that feature sits better in FARR rather than the plugin and directed me here.

So let me add my vote here for some means of navigating a large result set. Personally I'd prefer to see something simple like 'Next Page" | "Previous Page" buttons that would page through the results in both normal list and extended list.

I agree with you Perry... ResolverOne has interested me for quite a while.  Problem for me is that work would never adopt it, and I wouldnt use it enough outside of work to justify it.  It sounds really cool though.

That's basically me, though the discount brought it down into the Interesting zone for me  :)

I'd like to be able to specify local files for searchUrl (e.g. for a local copy of the autohotkey script listing page).

Is it possible to do this already and if so, is there a way to do it without specifying absolute paths?

You mean instead of searching in a file downloaded from the web, you want to search in a local file?

What a nice idea!

What about the output of a executable? That would be interesting...

Thanks...I just hope that that latest update didn't break anything for anybody.  =]
I  was so astonished at your dexterity that I dropped my DC mug and it shattered -- does that count?  ;)

I haven't tried it, but PlanMaker 2006 by Softmaker is free:

Thanks for the thought, though I'm not really wanting to replace Excel per se (Excel works fine for me: I use it a lot), but it seemed to be pushed as a new way to do spreadsheets... and that's what was interesting me.

It doesn't like big datasets. That'd be a killer use of resolver...

Really? How small is "big"?

I'd be interested in other people's opinion in this, it seems to be a spreadsheet on Python.

I looked at it a long time ago and was impressed, though I didn't dig very deep. Did anybody else??

I also wondered if it was a soft beginning into Python??

I'm not really sure I'm up for $100 for a spreadsheet but $40 for a great spreadsheet with powerful programming abilities may be different... would I end up ditching Excel (at home)?

TimeZone has just been updated to 1.3.2 and it now supports any TimeZone language and the number of Favourites has been increased to 50 (let me know if you need more than this  :P)

Thanks Iain: I'm glad you like it... it's always nice to add a bit of spit and polish to something that's already (mostly) working  :)

So you've installed 1.3.1 and using it without problems? I'm just waiting for a bit of feedback before releasing it through dcUpdater...

I didn't look too deeply, but some of the software is a couple of versions old. not a bad ploy, sell cheaply old software in the hope that they upgrade.

If that's it, it looks OK to me.

The context menu functionality is interesting.  FWIW, some multi-page categories I found included:

Yes: it's pretty nifty. works best when results are "rich" so that you can branch somewhere else...

Hmm...what's this "Funny" one?

Multi-stage regex and history will have to wait a bit longer I'm afraid :(. Concerning multi-stage regex: how should we specify input/output from one stage to the next?

What can I say? I can't wait to play!!!

With the RegEx: do you think we can do it very simply and extensible:
resultPattern=...
resultPattern2=...
resultPattern3=

and each 2+ takes the Matched String from the previous as it's input? I can only see a use for getting a block of content initially, so I can't see any benefit in passing all the grouped matches? Can you??

Maybe a new keyword %MATCH%?

Is a RegEx replace possible? could you specify replacePattern= so effectively it would Regex.Replace(%MATCH%,"resultPattern","replacePattern")

I'll merge this as a subsearch into yours if you don't mind.

I actually had the same thought about yours  ;) I was going to say why don't you add mine as a subSearch on yours: +tag, +tag2, +tag3, etc

...that way when you type cheatsheets and it'll wait for your input and then you can +tag to get the tag list??

That's way cool

If you do something like the following (that is adding author to the caption) you can also search by author  :)

You can also add simple html to the output if you like, and add context menus...

Code: Javascript [Select]
  1. description=AutoHotkey Script Listing
  2. searchUrl=http://www.autohotkey.com/wiki/index.php?title=Script_Listing
  3. resultPattern=<p><a href="([^"]+)" class="external text" title="[^"]+" rel="nofollow">([^>]+)</a> by <a href="([^"]+)" class="external text" title="[^"]+" rel="nofollow">([^>]+)</a>
  4. farrCaption=$2 :: $4
  5. farrGroup=<i>Written by $4</i>
  6. farrPath=$1
  7. isFeed=true
  8. contextCaption1=Open $4's Profile
  9. contextIcon1=autohotkeyscripts.ico
  10. contextHint1=Open $4's Profile
  11. contextPath1=$3

Use RMB Context Menu to search the tag and navigate pages  :D

For some reason all cities show the current time from my own timezone... Happens with both 1.2.2 and 1.3 using latest FARR on XP sp3

At some stage TimeAndDate.com started detecting your language and setting their language to suit. Didn't realize till I started investigating your problem: but I'm surprised that there has not been more issues (maybe all users are English speakers?).

Can you please try version 1.3.1: * timezone.zip (679.64 kB - downloaded 534 times.)

I'm pretty sure that I've solved that problem. I've been downloading in all sorts of interesting languages without problems (I've actually almost posted two previous fixes for this, but I kept figuring out better alternatives... now it should be fully automatic).

This version also removes the 5 Favourite limit, it's now flexible up to 50... so you can almost have as many as you like!!

Can you please test this version and let me know if it fixes your problem?

Living Room / Re: Follow DC on Facebook!

Hehe, also a good point. I'm on FB, though I seldom visit it, and rather loath it. But I joined the DC group to support DC. :)

Mee tooo (a bit). I resisted FB for ages, but with so many people on there it's got a huge draw. Actually helped me find some old long not-forgotten friends that I'd lost contact with once I got an account.

But I don't seem to have the stamina of the younger ones who spend "the whole day" on there...

But I'm a DC fan  :)

Here is a new version of OneLook: * onelook.zip (6.03 kB - downloaded 563 times.)

this one tweaks some of the subSearches:
  • I changed match to patternMatch so there's no mistaking the requirement of a pattern (it'll fail if it just looks up a word)
  • I've added Context Menus that make it easier to look up definitions of a word that you've searched on, and back again (handy if you're like me and you dig around a concept for the right word)
  • Tweaked patternMatch so that concepts can be added after the pattern, in the <pattern>: <description of concept> format.
  • Added a new Crossword subSearch: like patternMatch but more restrictive on what is returned.
  • Added OneLook's Word of the Day: This lists the 5 top words matched today and then the 5 top words matched the last hour.

I've also added a Copy menu item which should make it easier to copy the results back into another application.

And here is a first cut at a Time and Weather search from TimeAndDate.com: * timeanddate.zip (6.69 kB - downloaded 595 times.)

There's no help file yet, so just quickly:
  • wms timeanddate will return the list of current times in Country - State - City format. Entering a search term will filter the results.
    • Sun RMB Context Menu: Will load information about Sun times for the selected location.
  • wms timeanddate +w will return the current weather conditions of various cities around the world. Entering a search term will filter the results.
    • Forecast RMB Context Menu: Will load the 14 day forecast for this location in the following format:
      <date>: <conditions>
      <low temp> :: <high temp>
    • Current Conditions RMB Context Menu: Will load the following detailed informaton for the selected location:
      • Temperature
      • Comfort Level
      • Barometer
      • Humidity
      • Visibility
      • Wind

Caution:
There are some subSearches in this WMS TimeAndDate search that will crash FARR (+current, +forecast, +sun) -- they really need to be hidden: hence the next section  ;)

Requested New Functionality to WMS  :)
  • subSearch sorting: I've added a parameter to the subSearches though it can be named anything. OneLook suffers from not having the ability to sort the subSearches.
  • subSearch hiding: Some of the subSearches in TimeAndDate should only be used from the context menu as typing the search criteria in doesn't make sense (and crashes FARR at the moment)
  • Context Menu:
    • I seem to have hit the limit with the context menu. Is that a WMS restriction or FARR?
    • The context menus don't seem to be being cleared for each subSearch. You can see this in the OneLook search: the submenus for the default search are carried over to all of the subSearches. I think it would be preferable to start each subSearch fresh.
    • Can we have subMenus? I'd like to put all the dictionary type searches into a subMenu (Art, Computer, etc)
  • Two-stage RegEx: Those dictionary type searches could really do with a two-stage RegEx Match where the second RegEx operates on the result of the first. I also wondered if a RegEx Replace was possible (would help cleaning up some pages).
  • Search Navigation: It would be helpful to have an ability to backwards and forwards in the search results. Sometimes you can not get back to where you came from with the search results, and a back button would be helpful. Something like this:
    • wms timeanddate +w: cities displayed
    • type "syd": filter to "Sydney"
    • select forecast context menu: 14 day forecast displayed
    • at this point I would like to go back one step to the cities filtered on "syd" to access the current conditions context menu.

You know, if everyone spoke English there wouldn't be any of these problems... there'd also be no interesting languages... ;)

Nothing to do with you computer, it's what timeanddate.com is dishing up to you and TZ's inability to interpret other languages.

good news is I've got TZ going back to language school for some intensive training... shouldn't be too long  :)
