good luck!

Simple solution:

  • Use a p2p program that can monitor a folder to autoload torrents or nzb's or whatever such as uTorrent or Alt.Binz
  • Set up dropbox between home and work
  • Use the program from step 1 to monitor a folder from step 2
  • Add your torrent or nzb at place b to have it downloaded at place a.

Also worth to try and limit meetings to a certain time of day. you'll know what time of day you are most productive, so don't schedule meetings there if possible. (for me between 11-12 and after 3pm are good times for meetings).

Find And Run Robot / Google launches possible FARR competitor for windows
« Last post by justice on February 25, 2009, 04:06 AM »
Windows only: Remember Quick Search Box, Google's new search-and-launch application built by the same guy who developed Quicksilver? Well, now it's available for Windows—you've just got to install Google Toolbar in IE to get it.

from Lifehacker

Apparently it's not anywhere near FARR's featureset so no need to be concerned but it will be interesting to see where they'll take it.

General Software Discussion / Re: How much trouble is a 64-bit OS right now?
« Last post by justice on February 24, 2009, 03:15 AM »
The DRM issues are still a little unclear, but, for instance, a user may no longer be able to record off the sound card unless Win 7 recognizes an identifiable tag of some sort.
That's not correct this seems to be a driver issue for a few users, nothing regarding W7.
UPDATE: As noted by Ars Technica and many commenters, sound capture capabilities will vary from card to card, system to system, so one user's findings may not bear out for others. Apologies for confusion or disbelief—I tried to word it more as a water-testing thought than the Gospel Truth.

Living Room / Re: Why I Avoid Apple Products
« Last post by justice on February 19, 2009, 09:51 AM »
ye if you want to run anything on your phone buy an open source one based on linux, same with game consoles. But there isn't anything competitive on the market.

In my opinion they're not computers, they're entertainment devices - they're not meant to run anything on it - just like your blue ray player won't run your written programs, your games console won't run homebrew etc.

However if you buy an apple desktop / laptop you got as much choice to run things on it as a windows based one, which disproves the quotated text. What's with the apple hate?

Oh nice one bookmarked.

Yes I like it too, double click desktop to hide all icons, lining up of icons is very good. Although I not sure if I can automatic populate incoming shortcuts in the containers somehow?

Uhm haven't they always done this? if you get a new pc with the old os within a small period before or after the new os launches you get the upgrade. nothing new? It's not like they're going to run a campaign where everyone gets a free os.

Would like to hear someone's opinion on this, I never know how to take just the figures.
Common sense: To be fair Microsoft is many more markets than these competitors, therefore it has to stay in the forefront of R&D in all these fields.

« Last post by justice on February 11, 2009, 04:08 AM »
Yeah I seen it on bbc news there must be a clip.. Was related to the following article (has a differen bit of video for the web though)
Cases of motorists taking dangerous and illegal risks at level crossings in Wales are at a five-year high.

Network Rail said there were 400 incidents at level crossings and nearly 30 near misses, where trains narrowly avoided hitting motorists, in 2008.

The company is calling for changes so that tougher sentences can be handed out to offenders.

Living Room / Re: Why do so many micropayment systems fail?
« Last post by justice on February 11, 2009, 04:04 AM »
As an experiment then running a blog created by many expert authors each with a proper profile with picture, links etc.. Think like an community version of wired, or columns (as they're personal opinion) would be more suited to such a scheme.

Maybe microdonations are just a very good problem but for only a very select few projects. And maybe it's not in the interest of big 'faceless' organisations to put energy in something that would benefit the opposite.

When everyone feels completely secure about making a donation to any site with one button click [...]
Actually you're exactly pointing out the problem. With donationcoder you're donating to a person, with most other micropayment schemes you're donating to an entity - or even worse bits, paragraphs, links and other things people couldn't care less about. If you change the donation button and put it next to the thread instead of next to the picture you'll see donations going down.

Even cartoon websites live on the merchandise shop - because people won't donate to a 8 panel story - but they will want to buy clothes to promote it.

So even if it was really easy to microdonate with one click, I don't think many people would microdonate to an article. Only if they can relate to the person behind it, which mouser is very good at I think. An exception is donating to a community, as it is a group of people - for example sponsoring NANY by third parties.

Well that's my experience anyway, without any prove to back it up :P

Found this gem in a youtube comment: append &fmt=18 to the url. It loads a high quality version (but even for videos that don't have the "watch in higher quality" link..)

compare
Regular: http://www.youtube.c.../watch?v=lBvaHZIrt0o
HQ: http://www.youtube.c...vaHZIrt0o&fmt=18

Good idea for a bookmarklet.
