@ital2, you mention the other thread here, so I'll comment here about that here: I often notice here on dc that people have a problem with directness, misunderstanding it for rudeness, or as being 'loaded' with something or other, as opposed to simple and straight-forward. You are very direct yourself, but having already jumped to conclusions, and seeing protagonists as opposed to someone who is trying to add value to the topic, you destroy most chances of actually reaching any understanding or having any meaningful interaction of value. Of course things are sometimes not completely simple and straight-forward, but the point remains valid: jumping to conclusions, putting someone in a box, and attacking them just kills any possibilities -- and generally just makes for a shitty mood.

The ability to edit an existing entry would be great. I suffer from 'fat fingers' and am forever making typos. It's frustrating having to delete/recreate an entry just 'cos I've made a single typo.
hi Rick,
pressing F2 works to edit currently selected entry

"computer says no" means that nothing can be found matching your search parameters
it is an odd way of phrasing it (I realise that's Microsoft's responsibility).
Why did it first work with voice and later just with an error message in the statusbar? I don't recall any error message in the statusbar when I got the voice message.
604
One last thing.. It really is nice to see replies to the newsletters, and get some encouragement about them.  For whatever reason, it's not my favorite thing to do so every bit of positive reinforcement helps!
well it is great to get the overview

I was wondering: do you sit down at some stage and start trawling dc to find relevant threads, or do you keep an ongoing record of possible candidate threads between newsletters?

Not related to offline capability:
you appear to have three different names for the app -- I had trouble finding my notes from my last usage of the software :p
  • Deskrule
  • Desktop (search) rules
  • desktop rulez

606
okay:
--------------------------
desktop rulez
---------------------------
Added 311430 files in the offline catalog
Now you can search for them even when the device isn't connected
Do you want to add another folder?
---------------------------
Yes   No
---------------------------
If now search offline:
I add text used in multiple filenames to the [Name] field, the first field gets filled with [dr::catalog] and I get the voice message:
"Computer says no"

Am I doing something wrong?

EDIT// it's working now:
the voice is gone, even when I search for the same term as used above -- I havent changed anything beyond doing some other stuff for a while. Oh, and restarting DeskRule.
Could be that first run after booting doesnt work properly -- I always shut down this computer so will check again next time I reboot it (in the next couple of days).

People often love to come down on one side or the other (e.g. the negative reviews on amazon for either book); good to get an objective perspective.

Microsoft is building a Chromium-powered web browser that will replace Edge on Windows 10
my small experience of Edge is that it was/is actually a great browser -- never used it much though as not much in the line of addons. (I'm still avoiding Chrome myself, fwiw)

This appears to require windows indexing to be enabled (?)
even if I add an external drive as a catalog, it cannot find anything on it (indexing not enabled here). EDIT// may well be user error -- I'm figuring it out as I go along... //EDIT

(If it doesnt require windows indexing, I will have a bunch of related queries.)

interesting video

One of my favorite books is Into Thin Air, about a serious tragedy on Mt Everest: https://www.amazon.c...saster/dp/0385494785
re the book:
I've read about it before -- that he gives another guide a lot of the blame and accepts none for himself. The other guide wrote a book in response. Dont know if you knew all that (or read the other book). If the one star reviews are to be trusted though, the response book was very poorly written.

There is a free "Lite" version, for comparison:
https://www.zabkat.com/deskrule/lite.htm
My eyes show me "Lite version Cost per user: $19.95"
sorry bout that!

However here I'm not trying to sell a program, just to get beta testers!

Here is the beta direct download link: https://www.zabkat.c...krule_setup_beta.exe

The wording "QL folter temp" Sounds like it could be Dutch or Deutsch, I guess.

'folter' means torture (!) in Dutch and Deutsch -- probably does mean folder in some other language though..

But the intent was for the transaction payments to increase as the BTC production dropped off. However the transaction payments (e.g. cost...) part has turned into a rather total shit show that nobody is happy about.
I thought the promise was low-cost (and fast) transactions ... maybe that's why nobody's happy about it.

Okay, I tried on my desktop which is also Windows 7 Professional.
Same problem :-( **
Desktop had NET 4.7.2 installed already -- are you sure it works with 4.7.2? (I dont know which prior NET versions were installed.)

but when I check via this:
reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP"
it only lists up to version 4.0
gives:
Screenshot - 2018-10-31 , 20_06_58.png
^this appears to only list round numbers (or 'half-numbers' e.g. 3.5) -- it's possible the existence of '4' and '4.0' suggest that version 4 has been updated.

(Control Panel &) Windows Updates show 4.7.2 NET to be installed:
Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2 for Windows 7 for x64 (KB4054530)   Installation date: ‎2018-‎08-‎10 16:59   Installation status: Successful

The link you gave for the MS tool to test NET does not say it works with more recent versions of NET -- probalby does. (But not tonight for me.)

Dont worry about this Stephen unless you really want to get this working on 7.
I will continue to test if you want. I was thinking I might be doing something stupid, but with the same problem on two machines... who knows :D

** ie. get message AudioMarker has stopped working immediately with following details (look similar to last):

No success here -- but I havent looked closer at the NET issue (and wont tonight).

1) original version did load with default tab Notepad, google translate tab worked.
2) tried the most recent version (in a new folder) with same result -- immediately get the "AudioMarker has stopped working etc" message

Will get back to you after I've sorted the NET thing.
Thanks
