Description
From the time of MS-DOS and PC-DOS, we are accustom to using ESC key to close a box / option or go back one step. We could run a program and know that, to close or abort it, we have the versatile ESC key and it worked.

Now in the era of Windows, Microsoft decided that we must learn to use ALT+F4 key combination to close a window. How they got the idea of ALT+F4 is beyond anybody's imagination, I feel. They could have used ALT+X, say if they so wanted. Anyway, who are we to question M.S. So we mortal, learned a new trick on how to use single hand for pressing two far away buttons. I learned it and life just went by and no body complained.

Well then I got a brand new Laptop. Now like M.S., the laptop, ultra-book etc. manufactures decided that we do not need regular size buttons for functions keys. Some manufacturer even made them just like a single noodle cut in small pieces. Again they had their reasons of not enough space for the function keys.

The user, me, who was well trained to use ALT+F4 key without looking at the keyboard, even with single left hand, could not get it right in most attempts. Either I hit ALT+F3 or ALT+F5 but never ALT+F4. I had to take a close look at the function keys row to find the elusive F4 key to press it, for a simple job of closing a window.

Some programmers understood the pain and gave ESC key as an option to close their program, but mostly let M.S. do the job. Here again in some programs, ESC key do entirely different job instead of closing.

As a programmer I was finding it waste of time fiddling with function keys, when a simple ESC key could have done it.

I decided to make ESC key to close a window.

Features
You can close a program by just pressing the ESC key thrice. You can even close a tab by pressing ESC key twice. Obviously you can change what action twice and thrice pressing the ESC will do, in Settings.

You can also set a window title or class to close on single ESC key press.

Now Notepad can be closed with ESC key. Also GOM player can be made to close instead of minimize. Closing a tab in a browser is just so simple now. Old .HLP files used to close with ESC but new .CHM insists on ALT+F4, now it also abides to ESC key.

Usage
Installation
To install, extract the zip file in a folder, say "Esc Close", and run the "Esc Close" exe.

Using the Application
Right click on the tray icon and choose 'Settings' for various options.

Uninstallation
To uninstall, right click on tray icon of "Esc Close" and select 'Exit'. Then delete all files in the "Esc Close" folder and remove the "Esc Close" folder.

One thing I noted that you make it hard to contact you. Obviously we all hate spammers, but from my experience, I found that no matter how hard I try, it is the legitimate user, who just want to simply say thank you, go away, but the spammers get what they want.
Anyway it is your choice.

Here is my 2013 mug with the 2011 mug (2012 was a tote bag).

One thing I noted that mine mug show lighter color of the Hally's design than all the above photos of the mug. May be the long journey result

I use Pitaschio http://pitaschio.ara3.net/

It has many options and and I use most of them. One of the option is to show a running program path etc. even if it is hidden i.e. in tray or not.

This you can use to see the corresponding exe name with full path.

Most of my project development tools were made on WinXP and they work smooth on Xp than on W7. I can not spend time debugging my tools in W7 as I need to debug my projects and develop them fast. I do not see still after W8, of removing Xp, in fact just reloaded Xp on two systems last week.

I earn (goodwill and cash) faster on Xp and all my projects work fine from Xp onwards.

I try to solve a problem I am facing.

I made PCA since I used to get irritated by the stubborn cursor. OW was made to have my dear one's photo on any wallpaper. SAN and TWD solves my problem of forgetfulness.

The MCAT in this year NANY helps to speedup new project development.

All these apps solves my problem and I hope, may help other users too. NANY and DC gives me the platform to showcase them. One thing I learnt this year is 'do not wait for the NANY to begin, but start your engine as soon as you get time'.

Well I am facing one more problem and could not get time to solve it. Hope to release as non-NANY in coming months.

Well I did it , thanks to GOD.

Since my wife needed to be hospitalised 2 weeks before and now she needs rest, my time was divided between family and work. As I promised, I was ready to give a night's sleep for myself, but can not cut my family time.

Well here I am working after my family has gone to sleep. Just managed to make the website and the download app. Well the finishing touch is missing, but at least I am able to release the app for NANY 2013.

Merge CSV and Text helped me to make the website faster as the text for the site was built from the template of my other freeware site.

Though one more app is pounding in my head but I doubt if I will be able to release it by tomorrow night, i.e. 31/12/2012.

Sorry DyNama that you are facing problem in SAN.

End-tasking SAN and restarting does stop this behavior.

I'll find workarounds if i must, but i sure would like fixes. perhaps a way to unload or refresh the SAN database in memory?

Since re-starting SAN fixes this problem, I feel making an option to refresh the memory data will fix it, as per your suggestion.

I will make an option for it.

I am begging for some time for it, as my wife was hospitalised and she needs some rest now. My times are divided between family and work now. So personal work like SAN and NANY are getting pending.

But (still) what I disagree with is the FUD, and the spread of disinformation/assumptions by people who've never honestly tried to use the functionality.  It becomes less useful when you can't separate what you can do from what you can't, and what's right from what's wrong IMO.  There's enough wrong to concentrate on that other talking points don't have to be created.

That' s just what I am finding in all forums and blogs. Everyone is putting his/her comment from hearsay. At least at DC Forum we should first check and have it as 'example' of what we are saying.

The people who are running to buy IPad, had once predicted doom, as they thought it was very difficult to type on a IPad on one's lap. They just could not see the whole picture, but think IPad as mini computer where they need to type their codes and long articles.

This is the same going on for Win8 now. Hope to see the same people standing in line for Win8 soon

The accounting app I am maintaining is done in Xbase++ with TopDown. It is Clipper (DOS) like language. To save development time, our company went for it as our product is in Clipper originally.

The main accounting app I develop for my company has a big 'settings' dialog. Initially I used to put all in one big window, separated by box/lines. As the options grew, I made them tab pages. Then again tab pages grew to multi-line tabs. Last I made them to tree, similar to mouser's screen shot.

What I have found that the initial loading of the 'settings' window becomes slower and slower, as all options with tab/tree are made. In fact I show a 'Please wait..' while loading the settings window.

Now as a user I get frustrated when I need to enable/disable just one/two options and I have to wait for the full window to load. I was thinking of some logic which allow me to show the window quickly the 1st tab/tree-node and build rest in background, then again user may just want to go to the last tab/node at first ! Haven't found a good way to have both.

In my freeware apps I generally keep the few settings in main window and add new ones in 'advance' button. The 'basic' options I decide on the options I gave in first few releases, as user expect them there in main window, and add few most used, based on experience or so, to it. The advance window may have tabs/tree and may take long to load. This way, I think, I can make both type of users happy.

Let us hear from users who are using or tried a tablet+keyboard combination and not go in wrong direction of negative scenario.

When I use the laptop at office to demonstrate my program to users, many a times I touch the screen with my finger to point the area I am referring to. Imagine if I could even fire the event from it, I would not have to fiddle with the touch pad now and then.

After just a few hours of using the Surface, I realized that I was reaching up from the keyboard to tap and scroll without thinking about it on a regular basis. Having a responsive touch screen a few inches from where my fingers naturally rest on the Touch Cover completely changes what feels natural.

Well, this was most debated feature in blogs/forums, that using a touch screen along with keyboard is a no-no. But after reading the above post, I think MS has somehow got what Apple already has, natural user interface.

Obviously I too would touch the screen to load a different code file or highlight-cut etc. Much easier and natural than moving the mouse to the exact position.

Something do work together.

I saw my mother suffering due to indifference of my father. And I pledged my priority:
1. Family (wife, kids)
2. Work (job, money)
3. Relatives, Friends
4. Myself (Freeware, movie, fun)

Well you can see, I have not been able to start my 2013 pledge, as my family is requiring my time. I am ready to give one/two night of sleep if I have to, to make the app (in case). But no way I will cut my family time.

I do not want my family to suffer as I did.
