Living Room / Re: Google Acquires Twitch for $1 Billion
« Last post by rgdot on August 25, 2014, 06:40 PM »
Amazon, not Google, is buying Twitch for $970 million

Twitch is getting bought, but it's not YouTube and Google that are doing the buying. Amazon has agreed to buy the massively popular video game streaming website in an all-cash deal totaling approximately $970 million. The announcement is surprising in light of recent reports that suggested YouTube and Twitch had already reached a $1 billion buyout agreement to bring Twitch's platform and massive community under the Google umbrella.

I would rather not have an opinion on everything that happens. To me this is similar to when celebrities go to poor places and are shown helping the poor and/or adopting a child. 1000 awwws mixed with 1000 poking fun....to be honest neither is the right answer, if someone is being helped good if not a typed opinion won't change it.

Are you kidding? I don't allow any more than 2 failed attempts in an hour before I block the IP.

By the way, anyone wanting their Wordpress site secured the right way and don't really have a clue how to do it, contact me to discuss it.

It will take me about 3-5 hours of work, total time.  I'll give you more and charge you less than anyone else on the internet.

My website isn't quite finished (still needs FAQ & About page), but I have hung up my shingle for it, complete with testimonials from some familiar faces.  :)

Didn't know about this, very cool app  :)

Spoiler
Expect tweets and stuff about it :D

What Tuxman said is true.
It is a target because of its wide use, already mentioned stuff for example there are tools that change wp-login to something else, limit login attempts, disallow php execution in some directories. All will help but it will never be 100%, of course.

Older versions have always been slow for me, extremely so. On various OS and processors. Might try new one, thanks for the update.

The answer is probably the obvious one. There are 2 levels of privacy here, incidentally it has always been 2, not just in NSA days.
First is those you can decide to trust, which comprises of Dropbox (just to use them as example) employees and developers
The second is those looking in without Dropbox's knowledge (this list includes the NSA but is not exclusively NSA or a gov agency, it could be any 'third party' who takes advantage of holes and/or backdoors)

Hold Security warned in a blog post .... Hold Security is telling people not to panic and instead to strategize. It's recommending that users sign up for identity monitoring or identity protection services -- specifically touting its own service that is said to cost roughly $120 per month.

Living Room / Re: What about Condaleezza Rice and Dropbox?
« Last post by rgdot on July 27, 2014, 03:15 PM »
Dropbox, like other cloud services, has data retention policies. However, he problem is the same as I said before. What's written and what happens may not be the same (also makes no difference if Rice actually holds an office there or not )

Her working there doesn't increase the likelihood of anything. When spying exists or occurs it just does, doesn't need relevant individuals right there.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Sublime Text Giveaway
« Last post by rgdot on July 25, 2014, 10:48 AM »
Got this email moments ago:

Remember that Sublime Text license giveaway thing you entered last week? Yeah, whatever happened to that?

Well, I'd meant to declare the winner on Friday, July 18. But ... to say the response to this was more than I anticipated doesn't even begin to describe what happened.

The contest was so popular that my server ran out of disk space and crashed on the second day, leaving me scrambling to get it back up.

Now that the dust has settled, I've had a chance to go through the data and declare a winner.

And the winner is ...

name of person (not me)

Developer's Corner / Re: Data not being written to MySQL DB
« Last post by rgdot on July 21, 2014, 10:09 PM »
The help guy disabled the module that was causing the error message I showed earlier. But now I'm getting this error_log:

[21-Jul-2014 22:30:42 America/New_York] PHP Warning:  PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20100525/' - /usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20100525/: cannot read file data: Is a directory in Unknown on line 0

Same error without the specific dll? perhaps (another) line in php.ini needs to be commented out.

Pretty sure it's just the path to the dll that's not /usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20100525/php_xslt.dll

Probably need to look in the php.ini and make sure phpxslt.dll exists or is referenced at all. Also the path to it exists.

We can be pretty certain that if NSA is in bed with Google it has already happened. It won't start with Project Zero, in 2015, 2020, or year whatever in the future.
