Circle Dock / Re: Solution to shortcuts wich don't work
« Last post by sgtevmckay on April 11, 2009, 01:51 PM »
Welcome Pommesky
And to Danationcoder.com, and CircleDocks little corner.
Excellent work, I thank you.

I would like to add this to the tutorial that I am currently writing, so I will attempt to verify.

As I understand it, if you have a program in another drive, you need to make a shortcut to the C drive, and then place a shortcut to CircleDock (Linked to the Shortcut), and in the Shortcut Target the argument should be:
C:/<wherever you placed the shortcut>

I hope I have this correct, I am certain I will have the hang of it, after doing a step by step.

Excellent work thanks

I would also like to place your username in the credit for this tutorial, for oyu having found the solution.
If opposed, please let me know.

Unknown.

If you follow the development threads at MSDN, the idea is to completely phase out 32 bit OS by Microsoft, utilizing Windows 7.

This has become the folks at Redmond's mandate.

Unfortunately I have not had the extra computer for beta testing Windows 7, So I am unaware that there is a 32 bit version.

Logic dictates a 64 bit environment, and 64 bit OS have been around almost a decade.

I stand by my recommendation.

I would not Downgrade to Windows XP Pro for the XP 64, and I am a huge fan of Pro, I honestly thought Microshaft got something done right for once.

That being said, i would not shell out the money, I would get together with people I know and see if someone has an extra liscense, or is tossing and old system with License and software, but I would not go out and spend the money.

I would also run as a dual boot.

Bottom line is the 32 bit environment is dying, for better reference, check history. Look under 8 bit, 16 bit all within twenty years.

Frankly it is a shame that systems have not completely 64 bit already.
Do not let the screw ups of one product halt advancement.

Another Example, how long have game consoles been 64 bit?

I understand that there are folks still using windows 98 and older, but if you are a gamer, you will want to move to 64 bit, and the gaming consoles are proof of this.

Also understand that Microsift maybe pushing the 64 bit thing now, but I have old linux distros that were 64 bit 8 years ago.

So it is nothing new.

I remember folks complaining about XP just a few years ago, I am waiting for folks to cry about their Vista as well. Though seriously I seriously think that Vista will go the way of the Millennium Addition

32 bit is dieing!

The world is going to go 64 bit (period), It is just a matter of time, and I foresee the majority will be 64 bit within 18 months, regardless of the state of the economy.

I would also look for and exodus to Windows 7 within the year.
As I understand it Windows 7 will be a 64 bit environment only.

That being said, I would not "upgrade" to Vista 32 bit.
We are so close to a release date for Windows 7, I would wait.

You already have the 64 bit environment, and apparently you have learned to work within it's parameters. therefore I would suggest staying there.

I would spend the money better in getting my system ready for windows 7, and apparently you mostly are, and not waste the money on downgrading at this point. nor would I spend the money to "upgrade" to the latest Vista 32 or 64 bit.
If you can get a dirt cheap copy of XP Pro, or get a license and software from someone dumping a system cool, but I will not go out of my way.

stay where you are, and wait a little bit for Windows 7

Welcome er453r
And to VideoInPictures little corner of Donationcoder.com forums

Unfortunately there is now option to hide from the systems tray in the CircleDock settings
Currently the only way to do this would be:

Make sure CircleDock is Running
go to your task bar, right click, and click properties.
go to the "Notification Area" tab and click "customize"
Scroll through the list until you find Circle Dock
click the area next to it and select "Hide"
This will hide the CircleDock Icon in the tray, but not keep it from running in the systems tray itself.

A suggestion to have this option has already been added, we are just waiting to see in VIP will program it in at some point.

If you require anyhting else, let me know

General Software Discussion / DC support images for web sites?
« Last post by sgtevmckay on April 07, 2009, 02:35 PM »
Ok, I know that there are some mini banners for websites around here some where.

Little support images that link back to the DC site.

I seem to have lost them, can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Welcome tbear777, to Donationcoder.com and CircleDocks little corner of the forums

I am working on an unofficial tutorial now as I write this, if there is a way to manage Icon placement I will find it.

Otherwise I agree with the palcement issue, and hopefully VIP will return soon to address these issues.

Hello elma32 , and welcome to Donationcoder.com and the CircleDock forums :)

During this alpha Build, a Circle is all we can work with.

Although I am sure that the programmer is working on other shapes/configurations.

As is evident by the spiral; from a previous alpha build, you can refer to the visuals here:
http://circledock.wikidot.com/start

Now you will have to scroll down in the page a bit, but there is images and a small video demonstrating the Spiral.
Mr. Wong (aka. VideoInPicture), intend to have this "Spiral" returned to CircleDock in future releases.

There has also been a lot of great suggestions for shape configuratios, and more is always welcome.

So if you have any suggestions, feel free to leave them her at the forum.

Site/Forum Features / Re: March 2009 Survey Discussion
« Last post by sgtevmckay on April 05, 2009, 12:58 PM »
I think this goes back to the students afraid of asking  a question.

I think a list of the ideas is a good idea. Understand that maybe if folks see what others are thinking, maybe it will inspire other ideas.

There is always that student that asks the question, the others didn't, because they didn't know they needed to ask.
Or were afraid to.

Inspiration comes from all outlets

You wouldn't have to attach names or anything, only the results of the Q&A and any additional Ideas.

I must say in a personal note; that I didn't suggest much because I am still attempting to digest the extent of DC, but I am curious as all get-out as to how folks rang in on the Q&A.

I may also go a step further, and add a Q&A forum that would allow an expansion, in all the excitement, a suggestion or comment may have been missed.

General Software Discussion / Re: logitech mouse drivers are pure evil
« Last post by sgtevmckay on April 04, 2009, 03:09 PM »
Agreed, I had a similar situation. ipoint works, but you must have a complete uninstall of Logitech.

I would recommend removal utilizing Revo unistaller (be sure to create a restore point), and carefully go through the registries, before you make the final click of registry removal.

I have a mixed MS Keyboard and the VX Revolution, and I had to shiff around a bit, but I finally got all my buttons programmed with iPoint.

Auskalo, You are not forgotten

I am in the middle of making the tutorial I promised some time, ago. I have run some situations on the Standalone stack, and I think I know what the problem is, but I want to verify first.

I will be doing a complete install and walkthrough regarding the Standalone stack, so hopefully I will be able to address the isuue you are having at the same time.

Circle Dock / Tutorial creation help from folks using CD on 64bit Platforms
« Last post by sgtevmckay on April 03, 2009, 12:42 PM »
Hello CD Goers

I am in the middle of writing up a full tutorial of/for CircleDock.
Unfortunately all I have are 32bit OS's to work with.

Has anyone tried CD with Vista 64 or Windows 7?
If so can you tell me any differences in the install, or behavior of CD in 64 bit environments.
What issues you may have had, or over come in the install and use of CD in the 64bit environment.

The tutorial I am working will be an "unofficial" at this time, and will be released for absolutely free.
I intend to release a downloadable PDF, and hopefully post parts of the tutorial here.

All help would be greatly appreciated
also please list whether or not you would have your Donationcoder.com username listed in the credits of this tutorial

Thanks in advance.

Circle Dock / Re: Suggestion - CircleDock

Weocme to Donationcoder, and VIP's little corner for CircleDock, limneos

Actually, other than the fact that this serves no practical application; I like it :P

Will definitely have to get the programmer on this one.

I think that something like this could be done with minimal process impact, and could be fun

Great suggestion, if you come up with more, you are welcome to post here.

618
Agreed and thank you.

I figured I would explore the free possibilities, before I explored the paid ones.
I would run this for about a week and see if anything comes out of the wood work, otherwise I may have to go back to Rainy and ask for some of his hosting space, I had hoped against it, but I will do what I have to do.
619
What is it that you need to learn? What topics should this forum teach?

Missed this in the last post, please be patient with me.

The site will eventually cover all training, support, and postings concerning Rainmeter.
620
Well I have been trying to keep a lid on it, but in order for folks to understand our needs, I guess I will have to drop it.

Rainmeter is fireing up again, and has never had a structured share forum. Raineers have been stuck sharing and helping as they can on sites like deviant art, win customize, etc.

Since I am no real programmer by any means, I would be looking ot learn everything I need to know on how to setup, manipulate, and manage a forum site.
I will need to know every thing, as I wwould be one of 3 volunteer admins.

Since Rainmeter is a large community, albeit scattered to the winds, once it coalesces together, The forum will need the ability to handle a bunch of graphics (ie. screenshots and this kind of thing).

So space is probably a prime consideration.

I have absolutely no knowledge of php, but understand that it is simple once you know, and I can be a fairly quick study.

As a final note here. I have been so impressed with DC here, that I would base the service, support, and funding system on the Donation Coder format, if at all possible, and I think this would work out great for some of the more dedicated Raineers, that spend unholy amounts of time developing Configs for rainmeter, a directed donation system is something that you folks here put into place, and seems to work incredible well. Plus the idea of funds to get an independent forum in time, and matbe some flow to the real programmers behind the scenes.

One pain pill instead of two todat, and I do not feel like a free floating dingbat at the moment.
621
Hopefully it's enough to save Cody from his blackmailer.  ;D

Do to appropriate public outcry for the return of Cody safely, we have decided to let him off the hook.

Cody will be returned tomorrow and cluckin first thing in the morning
622
This topic has not been risen in the last couple of years and I would raise it again.

I have been tasked with finding a forum with hosting, and must be free to start, and be able to teach me what I need to know.

At the moment I have no full time server and the full admins do not have the time, or the resources, currently to lay down funds, so it must be free and hosted.

I have just been directed to Forumer, but would appreciate a broader sense of what is available out there.

Any suggestions?
If so; Please list site, and any known limitations.

I am looking for a quick turn around to get a forum that should have started years ago.

So any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
623
Starting to look like Cody is going ot be a KFC Critter, crispy critter that is :P
624
Blah, blah, blah Left :P
625
I still say a slideshow of the usernames, images, and quotes, with a thanks from Cody in the upper right side of the DC banner for thirty days would be great.

A kind of DC year book of Donaters for all who come to the site can see, and believe that there are real people who support this site.
