^ I totally agree with you on most of that, and I wasn't debating that point.  More that, as you said, the damage is done.  But the US keeps trying to mitigate damage that has already been done... which is stupid.  As they do so, they indeed build more of an actual case for asylum, which makes it even murkier.  And they offend more people, and do more damage.

The stance that Obama took originally about Snowden should have been the one that they stuck to, i.e. deal with the fallout and ignore Snowden.  Totally.  He's not an operational asset, so the only fallout is from what he took, and has already shared, even if its not been published.  Cut your losses, and move on- quit worrying about the sunk costs.

That brings me to the part I disagree about... by waving around power, they're making his position more solid, not less.  Especially because they're playing it out in public.  Let them declare a win with him getting asylum somewhere other than China or Russia.  Let him fade into the background- then if you're still feeling petulant, take him then.

This playing things out on the international stage is clumsy and stupid.
5902
Instead it looks like we're tip-toeing all around this.

This.

You know as well as I do, the thing about it is that it's playing out publicly.  If relations between Moscow and the US were better in that regards, i.e. there hadn't been so many dust ups between them with the US pulling the superiority card on a former Superpower, then this might have been a lot different.

But the thing about it is that they're willing to be implicitly complicit, but not explicitly.  Thus the fiction of the non-sovereign nature of the terminal.  The fiction of the asylum request (they would have taken him... don't get me wrong.  But they built in a poison pill for a reason).

And so the US is playing their position from a point that they usually play it from- strength.  And they're getting played.

Despite all the international "outrage," it seems the game plan that gets everyone off the hook is to make it impossible for him to be granted asylum anywhere.

But they're doing the exact opposite.  Their attempts to block asylum are making his case for asylum stronger, while making the US appear weaker.  There are only a few places where appropriate pressure couldn't be taken to get Snowden in custody.  Hong Kong was one (China could direct from behind the scenes and not tacitly get involved) and Russia is another.  And with China muscling into the area, dueling with the US, which has an ugly covert history there, this is becoming more of a headache to the US, highlighting the decline of it's 'soft influence' in the area.  From the ridiculous threats of withdrawing aid to the circus with the Bolivian president, the US is playing not just the wrong cards, but the wrong hand.  And their 'allies' and 'partners' are enjoying the show.  The Big Stick ideology isn't playing out so well anymore, especially when the US is already taxed, and cracks are beginning to show...

People!
please take gun conversations to a relevant thread,
thanks!

In cases like these, sometimes a well placed PM works wonders rather than open season.  :)

Why don't they follow the plot of a third rate tv movie and give a hundred grand to a sniper team and pick him off?

There's a reason why those are third rate tv movies.
5905
Even though the giant was exceptionally polite  ;)

I think that's called the velvet glove... ;)
5906
It seems like Venezuela is offering him asylum, probably just to irritate the us of a

Exactly.  That's what I was talking about.  Nicaragua too.  I'm sure that you will see other Latin American countries do the same.  But in public addresses, rather than reaching out to him.  Because... media.

It would actually make more sense if you really believed, and really wanted to help, to make it fait accompli.  So why are they doing it this way?  Because... yeah.  Media.  Tweaking the nose of the giant.  And making a statement.
5907
That's nothing new.  For many years it's been standard in a lot of places that you have to be on their soil (either locally, or an extension, i.e. a consulate) before you can apply for asylum.

The ones that are talking asylum without him being there are doing it for their own purposes.  It's all a game.  Waiting, political, and other.
5908
And good luck.

Thx, I expect I'll need it. But I also expect to work for it.

It gratified me to see how many people were at the demonstrations.  That means that people are of a like mind, willing to brave a little discomfort (it was quite crowded) and other possible negative effects.  Nothing like the recent demonstrations in Turkey, but I did enjoy seeing one thing in common- the fact that people were passionate, and not just at an emotional level, since emotions change, and can be manipulated.

(Totally wish my sign had made that list... ah well.  Guess I'm not witty enough.)

The proof will be in whether this blows over like they expect it will.  I'm hopeful it won't, but cynical enough to realize that the number of people that it doesn't blow over for will be less than those that it does.

Thanks for looking into this for me!  I didn't know about that scroll by setting; I'll try that!

Update:
Well, the first step was to update to the latest version (d'oh!)
After that, the new stitching together window helped me to get it working ok.  Had to set some pretty drastic overlaps, but the end result is exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks for the help!

^ In my world, you are only as defeated as you are willing to allow yourself to be. I'm not the type who believes I can't ever be beaten. But I am absolutely certain I will never be defeated, beaten or not. So again: Non serviam to any who expect me to just lie down.
 :)

And words are powerful, especially when delivered under the correct circumstances, and used to illustrate parallels.

"Facit legem" - consent makes the law.  I didn't, and will never consent.  Which goes along with 40's Non Serviam.

"Ægroto, dum anima est, spes est." - It is said that for a sick man, there is hope.

The USA is sick.  There is a divide that is wider than it's ever been, and we are ruled by a hegemony that in no way resembles what the US was meant to be.  It was once said that one party couldn't do enough damage... the extent of what could be done in that one office was limited long ago by the 8 year limit on terms.  But there really isn't a limit- with one party in power (The Republicrats) the policies of one carry over to the other.  But though sick, the patient is still alive, and there is hope.

And those few words say it better and more eloquently than my paragraph does.  And shows that it's not for debate, but what one considers a fact.  But, there's another saying that is short but sweet, "If any man have ears to hear, let him hear."

Screenshot Captor / SSC doesn't capture scrolling in Chrome
« Last post by wraith808 on July 06, 2013, 05:07 AM »
I was trying to capture a page to show to a client with SSC: http://elegantthemes...com/preview/Harmony/

It didn't work, only capturing the first view, even though it seemed to try to scroll.  I tried to use sendkeys instead, and it seemed to work, but then the screenshot was of the exact same first view.

I then tried on a couple of other pages, and it didn't work.  I know it worked before; I've used it.

Can anyone get scrolling capture to work in Chrome?

Other proofreaders always welcome... just let us know

Unfortunately, I find that when I read while writing in the early stages, it tends to affect what I write... perhaps once I get mine going I will join in! :)

Everyone has edit rights...

I get it now... you were saying that everyone had been set up with edit rights.  d'oh.  I thought you were saying no matter what, everyone had edit rights.  :-[

It depends on the settings on the document.  When being added, you have to be given the ability to comment.  It works very well, and versions.

Actually the settings are to allow:
  • Editing
  • Comments
  • Viewing

Everyone has edit rights...
-Perry Mowbray (July 05, 2013, 07:36 AM)

Everyone has *view* rights.  Everyone doesn't have edit rights.  I've seen it in practice (we use google at work) where I can comment, but not edit.  Or view and do nothing.  If you have edit rights, you have all the others... but the others are more granular.

Well, at the moment I'd have to say it's a flop since other than reading I'm unable to do anything else.

I'm wondering whether mouser is able to create a, for example, special project sub-forum with access only by members he designates?

Kind of like a slightly enhanced of the My Personal Area one where the members can be nominated by the My Personal Area owner - if you get my drift.

Otherwise, a SVN is probably the way to go.

This time around, however, it's not being said by anyone who's anything like that first guy...

Zing!  And +1 :)
5918
Thanks for that... it's really is awesome :)

Truthfully, I don't think that he has the documents that would help get leverage.  The fact that he rebuffed Russia's offer makes me think that he might be truly doing this for the reasons that he says.  But even with that, at some point you have to realize that all the moves you have are bad... he really should have taken their deal once he was trapped.  Their "we can't touch him... he's not in Russia" is complete fiction, and he should know that.  He's at their mercy already...

Even UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon comes down on the side of the spymasters. It's as if the EU and the UN are also run by spies, whose no. 1 priority seems to be to make an example of Snowden to show what happens to spies that break the code of secrecy:

Bingo!

The first rule of spycraft is don't get caught.  The second rule is don't play out the results in the media.  Why else do you think that the conditions of Snowden's asylum in Russia were 'stop hurting the US'?
5921
I think it went something like that.

That's classic  ;D  And probably true  :(

I noticed that on the link IainB posted about Wave that the Open Source version had a problem that showed Google's new colors...

Subsequently, Google asked the Etherpad code maintainers to remove JSMin from its code tree due to a clause in its license stating, "The Software shall be used for Good, not Evil," which is not compatible with the open source licenses allowed on Google Code.(1)

« Last post by wraith808 on July 02, 2013, 06:24 PM »
Well, the thing that people don't understand in a lot of cases with Google is that everything is Beta... it's a research project, and they scrap the bad, and repackage the good.  A lot of what Wave was has been repackaged in other products.  Hangouts are a *lot* like what wave was.

To all of you who claim you don't give a fsck... This is actually what not giving a fsck looks like.   That or a train wreck.  Your pick.
