General Software Discussion / Back on the Chrome dev.
« Last post by MilesAhead on August 28, 2010, 07:50 PM »
I'm running Chrome dev. again. 7.0.503.0 LastPass is working again.  Also it's not shy about honking.  Running nothing but Speed-dial it's using 8 processes.  Also there's some acceleration tweaks you can do on the command line.  The one I like most is --enable-fastback which seems to side-step that annoying feature of fetching the page you were just at instead of pulling from the cache.

My favicons work.  So far it seems to just kick ass with no side-effects.  But this is the first day. :)

Here's a link to the dev. channel:

I bought a 3-pack of DVD+R DL a few years ago for $15. They were so expensive that I've never used them for fear of making a coaster.

Now I can get 10 times as many DVD+R DLs for 2 times as much money. Really good deal!

Except these days I don't know what I'd use a DL DVD for.

Yeah, x264 kinda' changes the game. A month or so ago I would probably have purchased at least 2 of those packs at that price.  I didn't even buy one. :)

Yup.  There's only one install DVD no matter what version you put on. That may be a big reason why Ultimate doesn't take up 100 GB.  They had to trim it down so Home Premium purchasers wouldn't squawk.

Someone on another board answered a question how to upgrade and outlined pretty much what you said. Good to get verification.

General Software Discussion / Re: Minefield(Firefox) 3.7Pre seems to work
« Last post by MilesAhead on August 27, 2010, 12:28 PM »
Just recently I tried the FF 4 "Minefield" to check out the 2D GPU rendering.  It said it was enabled but I couldn't tell. Probably because I don't have game grade GPUs.  Nowadays I mainly keep FF for sites Chrome won't handle and also to fix up loss of favicons and that type of thing in Chrome.  LastPass will work in both but there doesn't seem to be a simple way to cross sync bookmarks that doesn't produce dupes and other side-effects.

But back to the glass.. the main thing that gripes me is when they try to get a large glass caption bar, a lot of apps, including Chrome, want to use a ribbon instead of the standard menu bar.  So now everything is crammed into one drop-down menu item.  It's a pita. I hope Windows8 adds easy to use APIs to draw text and graphics on glass without jumping through flaming hoops.

I didn't change the version number but the latest upload has a slightly improved IniEdit.  I added Open and SaveAs buttons.  Also improved the logic so if you attempt to open while you have modified data in the edit, you will be prompted etc..

Also added .txt file type to file open/save dialog filters.

TicClick 2.1.0.0 I added a little ini file editor applet for the Edit Ini File command.  Mainly I just wanted to get a label to show up on glass.  The edit control just sucks up the whole file at once. It's okay for .ini files as they are generally quite small.  The ini file editor applet requires .NET 3.0 or higher with Glass enabled.  If Glass is not enabled on the system TicClick just uses file association as before to edit the .ini file.  If Glass is enabled, the assumption is made there's at least .NET 3.0 on the system.

Here's a screenie

I just have the single domain, so I'm not familiar with these other features.  But I know there are a ton of .htaccess guides on the web.  Many very detailed.  Also you might look for a forum by your hosting service.  Many times other users will know the exact .htaccess command/feature to point you in the right direction.

Sounds like AndeT1's solution is the simplest. But I can't verify it from my limited experience. :(

Sounds like somthing you could do with Windows command line FTP

http://www.nsftools.com/tips/MSFTP.htm

I've checked a couple of the Gui type ftp like FileZilla that I use, and they are designed mainly to drag & drop files onto a cue.  But many file managers have ftp client built in now. You could check them out.  I know for sure FreeCommander does but I think it's a popular file manager feature now.

modal aero dialogs are capturing fine for me on my windows 7 machine, so something more is going on.

Ok. Guess I shouldn't get in the middle of your software support issues and confuse things. Sorry. :)

Miles, there is a whole long thread on aero glass capture developments in screenshot captor.
The new version can capture these translucent semi transparent shadow effects perfectly now.

The only problem raised here is some issue with modal windows, and this should be something simple to solve.

That's what the article was about. Modal dialogs.

Looks like another capture program has been dealing with this. Seems they get around the drop shadow problem by just imitating the drop shadow and drawing it on themselves.

http://www.ntwind.co...p/windows-vista.html

I'm just starting to play around with some of this glass stuff.  Now I know why many programs want you to stick an icon onto a sheet of ice.  Icons seem to be resistant to glass smudge that plagues images and other stuff like text. It would be nice if they came out with functions that just produce the desired result on glass.  Like DrawTextOnGlass() or something.

I found out from code on AutoIt3 forum there's composition that's on Windows7 that's not on Vista.

Seems if you use a layered window you can get a translucent glass effect. On Vista the same attempt just produces a black client area.  Just gets more complex it seems. :)

Here's a shot of the tranlucent effect if anyone is curious:

It's my understanding the long pause when you click to the next channel is to save bandwidth.  With HD they can't have all the signals going all the time like they did in the old days. When you stop on a channel I think it sends a request upstream that channel be sent back to you.

I'm not up on all the particulars but it's likely unless you have like 100 Mb/sec or higher internet service in your neighborhood, then the fiber probably only goes up to some junction station/router whatever they call that box everyone on the street is hooked to, and from there to your house is just the old copper cable.

« Last post by MilesAhead on August 18, 2010, 03:12 PM »
Selector 2.6.0.0 Added an .ini file option, UseTransOn7. This is a Windows Seven only option. If set to 0 the Popup Window will act is in previous versions.  If set to 1, and you are running Windows Seven with Glass enabled, you should get a translucent window like the screen shot below:

They don't make it easy to draw on glass so the text is a bit smudgy.  But if you like translucent windows you may prefer it to the standard popup window.  I stole the technique from Yashied on AutoIt3 forum, using his WinAPIEx include script. :)

edit: I kludged it to make the text easier to read on translucent window. :)

Selector will not try to use the translucent window unless it detects Windows Seven and the option is enabled in the .ini file.

edit2: Now you can set the Transparency option in the Tray Menu instead of editing the .ini file. The option is W7 only.  The setting in the menu will be disabled if you're not running Seven with Glass enabled.

For calculations you can type in using C syntax, I've been using this little utility for years:

http://analogx.com/c...g/pcalc/Freeware.htm

The result is shown simultaneously in Float Hex Octal Integer and Binary.  To copy the one you want to the clipboard there's a little 'C' button to the right of it.  Also you can use variables.

Just thought many people may not be aware of it. :)

H&M was a funny flick. I remember when it came out everyone raved about it. I didn't get to see it until years later. The kid certainly knew how to put the kibosh on a blind date! :)
