Received my 4th 4-star review. Also have a single 5-star review.
579
The list, to date:

  • mouser
  • rgdot
  • superboyac
  • 40hz
580
To Australia?

No, it was USA.
581
I will find out the cheap media rate when the first 3 paperbacks arrive this week, and will give feedback here.
582
Yeah, I won't be overnighting these. Nor insuring them, unless the buyer wants to pay extra.
583
I mailed a similar size/weight book to a friend recently.  It was six dollars and change.
584
On the list so far:

  • mouser
  • rgdot
  • superboyac
585
Thanks, superboyac! That's 3 ppl in less than 30 minutes. Maybe we should say 10 people or until August 13th, whichever comes first. That way, at the latest, we'll be putting an order together and doing PayPal transactions within 7 days.
586
The link to e-book purchase locations from my OP states that eBookOnFire and Smashwords are, in that order, my preferred purchase sites. However, for the consumer, right now the best deal is here on PayHip, using the coupon code from this blog article. Be aware that it's EPUB, so if you have a Kindle you'll have to convert it using Calibre or Zamzar or something. You can get more of a discount (25%) simply by sharing the PayHip URL for my book on Facebook or Twitter. After you FB-Share or Tweet, you'll see the price has dropped to $2.24 :)
587
That's two people. Is five a sufficient minimum?
588
Please note here that you have seven different options when it comes to purchasing an e-book copy of the book. As explained on that page, I prefer eBookOnFire or Smashwords, but you shop wherever you please :)

As far as I know, I'm the first (but I'm willing to bet NOT the last) DC member to write a novel. For anyone who hasn't followed the main thread on this topic, I wrote a 70,000-word science-fiction novel that was released in late July. Thus far, it's garnering 4- and 5-star reviews, and I've made a whopping $23+ in royalties (I haven't quit my day-job: though I have been laid-off for the past six months -- hence, time available to write a novel). I owe much of my success to two wonderful proofreaders, 4wd and Perry Mowbray.

With significant help from the very talented and equally generous Perry Mowbray, I was able to get a properly formatted CreateSpace version of the book, and so can now offer autographed paperbacks of the novel. If you don't care about the autograph, you can order straight from Amazon, in either paperback or e-book format.

If you'd like to have an author-autographed paperback, I'm selling them for $10.80 + shipping/handling (since I'll have to mail the autographed book to any takers). The purpose of this post is to get a head-count of those who definitely want an autographed copy. When I have five or more definites (made definite by PayPal-ing me in advance), I'll have copies printed on demand, and get them shipped.

So, if you really want an autographed copy of this debut novel of what will become a science-fiction trilogy, please respond on this thread. If we meet head-count threshhold, I'll collect payments and enact an order or books.

I don't know if perhaps this needs a separate thread, so that it's not buried thirty pages deep in this epic thread. I'd like to find out who would like to receive an autographed paperback copy of the book. I'd get each one's shipping address confidentially, and determine a shipping fee (I'm thinking it's gonna be in the neighborhood of five or six dollars, based on prior experience). What do you guys think? Is that too in-your-face commercial, or could we do it in a low-key, low-pressure, this-is-just-here-FYI kind of way?

I've gotten rid of the floating contact button. Now, I have a contact form in the most likely places it'll be needed: my Proofreading page, and my About Me page. I may also just make a Page devoted just to the contact me form, and then put that in the Menu.

Just so you guys realize how wealthy I'm becoming: the book's been out now about 16 or 17 days, and to date, I've made $5.13 in royalties on Amazon and $18.38 on Smashwords. The three paperbacks I've ordered are already spoken for. Two will go to a high school friend, who's buying one copy for herself and another as a birthday gift for a mutual friend. Because I'm donating the third book to my alma mater's library, I'll only net $0.39 on those three books :)

So, once the three paperbacks are delivered, and not counting any sales I may make in the meantime (the special on payhip may help: I noticed views jumped from 34 to 55 in like 10 minutes), I'll have made $23.90 in three weeks. Yeah baby, yeah!

Seriously, though, it takes time. Unless you're a one-in-a-million breakout seller, like Amanda Hocking, it's like rolling snowballs. It takes time, and consistent effort, to see growth.

I have three people on MarSocial who've promised reviews, two here, and three Twitter pals. Were all those to appear, then added to my existing four reviews I'd have a dozen. And if you think about it, if I've accumulated a dozen reviews by the six- or eight-weeks posting of the novel, that's not bad. Lots of competition.

But I console myself that, in just three weeks' time I'm gotten featured on eBookOnFire.com, and a promised radio interview. My book will go into my local college library (and of course I'll offer it to the public libraries in surrounding counties). I just think ya have to keep on keepin' on.

My first box of paperbacks is already sold out (I autograph each copy). I'm putting together another, larger order. Anyone who wants an autographed copy, please let me know. The cost is $10.80. If I have to mail it to you (you're non-local to me), I'll tack on Shipping & Handling, of course. The book makes a great gift :)

Author of "Knightfall", Robert Jackson-Lawrence, is about 70% done reading Kyrathaba Rising, and will be reviewing it soon on Goodreads and Amazon. And 40hz and mouser are gonna review it too. So, slowly accumulating those important reviews.

Just a newbie question : how to I load it onto my Kindle.  I can transfer files using either the cable or an e-mail attachement using a special address, but I don't know which format to use, should I convert one of the included files ?  If yes, with which tool.  Thanks !!!

Edited : issue solved, I sent the .mobi file as an e-mail attachment to my kindle address and it worked perfectly.  I am really looking forward discovering this book...

Also, if you plug your Kindle into your PC, then click on the Kindle drive icon that appears, you can copy a mobi file into the /documents/ directory and it'll show up on your Kindle.

I just finished Knightfall by Robert Jackson-Lawrence. Excellent read, especially for a debut novel. I think the guy has real talent. I sent him 46 typographical errors that his U.K. proofreading company (which probably charged him an arm and a leg) overlooked. Now he plans to hire me to proofread books 2 and 3 of the trilogy :)
