If you need to install or reinstall Windows 10 using a USB or DVD, you can use the media creation tool below to create your own installation media

Eh... I was told batch resizing now is a standard Windows 10 feature? Windows 10? You know, this new Microsoft thing where words like Store, Apps, Device, OneDrive, Metro, Groove, Media, Gallery and such are all over the place? The featuring app could be called Microsoft Photos - but I haven't tested it, as I don't have Metro or apps or such..., so I don't know if this is it. In fact, I don't know what it is!

what a terrible experience, you've had!  :o

Onlything I can think of is, the period of grace => When I upgraded from 7 to 10, I was given a couple of weeks to maybe regret and roll back to 7.

I found this Pointer Pointer site EXTREMELY amusing!

For me, Windows 10 has by far been the operating system that has been the easiest to have. The easiest to install and the easiest to use - the easiest to "live with". I also think it has been easier for both my laptop and for my PC to run Windows 10, rather than Windows 7 (I have never tried Win 8.).

I recommend http://www.getblackbird.net/ or similar. I have not tested WZor DWS http://dws.wzor.net/ .

Blackbird removes W10 Upgrade Popups.Block Win10 upgrade (GWX) messages on Windows 7/8
Blackbird will remove downloaded Win10 pre-install files/folders.Prevent your PC from auto-installing Windows 10 while you're not looking.

http://www.likenewpc.net is merely $20 - if it did the job, otherwise it's free - and is extremely easy to use: Click go, and come back tonight / tomorrow! But this one I have not tried.

After the repair, "Blackbird - Windows privacy, security and performance" may help preventing new problems; my Win 10 is running noticeable better, after implementing the changes from Blackbird 0.9.92. Just remember to first shut down security for a minute.

You didn't mention it, so I "have to" ask: Can't a 'phone home' process be avoided, simply by unplugging the machine, before installing?

yes, it's still a fine program. But be aware that Vlastimil last touched the program 3 years ago, and last updated the features 6 years ago. But of course, if an author makes it right the first time...

Today (Sept 2016) I needed to use a program like this, so I tried LikeNEWPC, but was given this pop up:
"Does not support Windows 8, 8.1, 10"   :(
For this reason I have deleted the rest of the original post.

I tried to order a Surface from Microsoft Store - Build Your Bundle, but I was not allowed to order one without Office 365. There was no option for Office 2016 or no Office.

Does any of you guys use a Surface as your only computer, or is it "always" the transportable I'm-off-for-a-meeting one? I guess my question is, if I need two computers, or if a strong Surface will do?

DC Website Help and Extras / Re: Can't post a post with just a video
« Last post by Curt on May 20, 2016, 02:12 AM »
I think Deozaan gave the answer. If you people would go and test Recommend some music videos to me!, you'll find that an aweful lot of video links are empty by now. When I did, I felt disappointed each time. I mean, the video link was uploaded for a reason, right? But how is that reason justified, when there is no video? Such a post is now without meaning. If the post at least had the video's title, I could go search for it - and the post would then still have a meaning.

----------
For what it's worth, I do think it's a good idea to describe videos when you post them. That way in a couple of years when someone is trying to remember what they were, a search for related terms will bring something up.

https://2016.revision-party.net/compos/pc is an even better link

The YouTube version is 70MB. However, I didn't bother to read my own link, so I don't understand what it would take for a so-called 64k video to be normal real life?

^thanks, Anand. My settings were all right, but Firefox didn't behave accordingly. But maybe it was merely a temporary problem; because now I have updated to 46.0b11, and the problem seem to have gone!

General Software Discussion / How do I tell Firefox, Never (try to) restore?
« Last post by Curt on May 12, 2016, 03:15 AM »
One of my latest addons has had the unfortunate side-effect that Firefox 46 not has stopped closing, when I first close Firefox and then shut down Windows. So at next launch Firefox will ALWAYS start with saying "This is embarrassing..." and offer me to close this or that page from the last session, before launching. But I say, it is not just "embarrassing", it's ANNOYING!! Firefox never crashes on me, so why should it restore? No, kill that restore!!

Of course the right answer is not to find whatever addon screwed with my Firefox... So I have looked "everywhere", searching for a default setting called something like "Never restore, just open a new session". I know it used to be there - somewhere - but now that I need it, I can't find it. Has it gone? No, of course not! But where is it? How do I tell Firefox, to never (try to) restore?

Living Room / DonationComics... (digitalcomicmuseum)
« Last post by Curt on May 09, 2016, 01:18 AM »
I quote from digitalcomicmuseum because I think it's worth saving:

>>Hi Gang,
For this month of May 2016 every user who donates will be given FTP access as an alternate method to download files from the 19,000+ Digital Comic Museum collection.
For each dollar donated, donors will receive 5 gigs of file downloads over the next 31 days from the day the donation was made.

Click on the Donate link >here<  to contribute to the cause and receive your FTP login info in an email. Remember to log in (here at DCM) before you donate! Please be sure your DCM profile email address is working first if you aren't using an active address.

For the last two years our FTP Access Month has been remarkably popular.  Donors to the site are vital for keeping our server bill covered.  These FTP Months help DCM build a reserve fund for those months we come up short in our monthly goal of $288 or if there is an emergency such as a hard drive that needs replacing in our servers like last April 8th.

DCM is a built on four pillars.  The physical comics and those that buy and share them, the scanners/editors of those comics working many hours to share their scans, the staff working hard behind the scenes and the financial donors who give their money to keep our servers running.  Those financial donors don't get nearly the recognition that the other groups do but are easily as vital to keeping DCM a healthy site!  As a thank-you to donors this month we are offering our third FTP Access month!

A simple list of all comics on the FTP and their locations:
http://ftp.digitalco...um.com/comiclist.txt

Plus a placeholder page that sums everything up.
http://ftp.digitalcomicmuseum.com/

++++++++++++

forum_header.gif

++++++++++++

Here are the specifics -
For every donation you will be given access to the FTP from the donation date. Due to costs, bandwidth etc download limits will be put in place.
For every $1 donated during May you will be given a download limit of 5 GB for the following 31 days.

So lets get on to some examples....<<

Read http://digitalcomicm...hp/topic,6780.0.html

You will need a registered username, to get the FTP download link. Tip: Log in before donating!
My comment:
You do not need to download anything, but please go and donate, in order to save this fine museum!

General Software Discussion / Re: Anyone using Blackbird?
« Last post by Curt on May 06, 2016, 03:45 PM »
Finally I have found the culprit. After the big Windows update previous week, my Win 10 soon failed to function properly. Because I ran Blackbird very shortly after this update, I expected the problems had been caused by Blackbird not being adapted to the new, updated Windows. So I commanded Blackbird -r, and rebooted. The problems were still there!! Actually, they even got worse and worse, so I was forced to update or remove various programs, in order to narrow the list of usual suspects. Luckily I didn't have to say goodbye to anyone at all; ALL the problems went away when I replaced Outpost 9.2 for Outpost 9.3 of April 28'th.

Problem solved. Blackbird is okay
and so is Outpost 9.3

----
PS:

It seems your Blackbird doesn't disable Runtime Broker. I think it should, because it's contacting Microsoft Store.
Maybe read our thread: What is Runtime Broker, and Why is it working so pathetically bad?

I have noticed that every time Explorer now has this freezing problem, I can find "Windows Shell -Experience Host" running. Because all this is during startup, I don't know if it also was running before the freeze (but it never did before Blackbird) - if it was the trigger, or being triggered.
