I don't really know how does new beta work on Wine because I don't use Linux at all. Last time I checked I had no problems with TC.

I think that 7.5 should work better than 7.04a. Wine compatibility was discussed many times on private beta board and Ghisler made few changes for Linux only. I know that he even pulled back one feature for Windows because it was breaking Wine completely :)

1.0.20 is out!

I think I've fixed access violation error for code area click (reason: empty snippets list).

I have also added an option to have different overwrite warning while user wants to save code to file which already exists. This feature is switched OFF by default because I did not test it too much. Although I think there should be no problems with it.

I have also made few smaller changes like:
- additional Cancel button in "Save on close" message;
- click on URL button surrounds selected text with proper tags (same behaviour as for other buttons - i .e. B);

Now I am working on better BB parsing engine which will use regular expressions only. I hope it will speed things up a little bit.
Small part of it is already implemented and can be switched on via hidden UseAltParser=1 parameter but it still requires a lot of work.

I think I found where "your" bug occurs. It should be solved with next release.

I have more trouble over the years with PCs because someone thought, "Oh, I need this codec pack to play this file.", which then installs a lot of other rubbish that's not required and screws up whatever codec's are already installed.

I share the same opinion. I saw a lot of cases of screwed up multimedia handling on various PCs due so called "codec packs". Few years ago, the most common "problem" was "something bi-cubic resizer" IIRC. That is why I recommend ffdshow only (rarely: qt/real alternatives). If someone breaks his system by running something against my "rules", I don't bother to help such user. I am bad, baaad person. I know. But it keeps me safe from headaches ;)

I understand that someone familiar with AutoHotKey might write a script to do this, but I neither know how to do this nor how to get such a script to automatically execute with each boot-up.
-HankFriedman (June 08, 2009, 06:22 PM)

I think skrommel might do better job explaining (he is AHK guru here) but I'll try my best:

1. download AHK installation package,
2. take a look on AHK Help file ("Remapping Keys and Buttons" and "Key list (Keyboard, Mouse, Joystick)" chapters or mentioned post on AHK board,
3. write simple script in text editor similar to:

#Persistent
^x::^z

4. compile to EXE using Ahk2Exe.exe tool bundled within AHK package,
5. create shortcut (LNK) for it and put into "Autostart" folder of your Windows "Start" menu.

Sadly: it requires from you time to learn (or search through AHK forum.
Luckily: new knowledge is always big +.
582
One more important thing: it is known that TC 7.50 introduces quick filter feature but not so many people are aware that there is the possibility to use additional DLL file for better filtering (Google like, similarity, regexp) from here:
http://en.totalcmd.p...gle_Like_Quicksearch

Just few comments to your post :)

F5 of course copies a file to the opposite pane, but Shift+F5 does an "in place" copy (in the same folder, not to the other pane).
-tranglos

There is also nice command for shortcuts files (LNK) creation (additionally assigned to Ctrl+Shift+F5 here).

If you just need to read a file, it's the fastest and most convenient way.
-tranglos

For me it's not the quickest way due to many WLX plugins installed. I prefer to use Shift+F3 for very quick preview (lister without plugins) instead.

Install IrfanView (even if you don't normally use it), and in the lister's configuration check "Use IrfanView to load graphics". This, again, is the fastest way to view any media format that IrfanView supports (including videos and sounds).
-tranglos

I don't think it's 100% true. The fastest way is to use Imagine plugin first and set additional types for Irfan (via IViewAdditionalTypes parameter) next. If someone prefers XnView, he/she can use it too.

Select a zip file and press Ctrl+Q. If the zip contains a file named "readme" (or a few other common names), it will be displayed without you having to open the zip file and navigating inside it.
-tranglos

… but you can view archives properties there if you have nice WLX plugin (ArchView, ArcView) installed.

Tip: Remember that you can save searches that you frequenrly perform (The Load/Save tab in the Find Files dialog box.) And when you search for files, remember that you can press Alt+L ("Feed to listbox") to show search results in one of the two panes in TC. You can also use the file viewer (F3) directly from the list of results in the Find Files dialog.
-tranglos

Plus the possibility to save searches templates for further use in: files tooltips, Overwrite dialogue info, Custom filter and files colouring.

2urlwolf
I had missed that too until I discovered that TC under Wine is much better (and quicker) than any other native Linux filemanager. Well… being honest… MC is quicker but less attractive ;)

Hah, funnily enough, further down the list
> BEST FREE VECTOR GRAPHICS PROGRAM
> Inkscape - great open source vector graphics editor, a free alternative to the expensive Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw.

no alternatives offered :)

They can always mention crippled Draw from OO.org or InsightPoint ;)
586
The only missing piece here is that I don't think you can confiogure TC to automatically switch column layout based on the folder contents (or have pre-selected layouts for specific folders). You still need to click Show -> Custom column mode -> pick your mode (or assign a keyboard shortcut).

It can be done using AHK or TwinKey. Although second solution seems to be slow (at least for me).

BTW For columns view switch I assigned Ctrl+E to cm_SrcCustomViewMenu. It is quicker this way.

I've focused on 94 list only.

Really nice list but one thing does not fit IMHO:

BEST FREE IMAGE EDITING PROGRAM

GIMP - The best freeware alternative to Adobe Photoshop. It’s an open source image editor, very powerful and quite stable.

Alternatives: - Inkscape

I can hardly see Inkscape as GIMP alternative. These are too different. I would rather go "vote" for Paint.NET or Artweaver instead. Ink simply sucks in raster graphics editing.

I think the best would be to have two separate groups for raster (called i.e. "photo editor") and vector graphics.
588
No DC there :(

BTW I use 14 applications from their list (4 very rarely). I thought there will be more ;)
589
Take a look into Help file  :P

But seriously…

There are too many things to write about but I think anyone can agree that clean TC is nothing compared to TC + plugins.

There are almost 500 plugs available with support for hundreds of file formats (i.e. GAUP which unpacks resources from over 300 games) and someone can be lost with such amount of them but what makes it great is the way how information provided by them is used.

By default they are divided into 4 types:
  • wcx - packer plugins for archives support;
  • wdx - content plugins for custom columns and Multi Rename Tool;
  • wfx - filesystem plugins for external devices;
  • wlx - lister plugins for files preview (F3).

Such features are well known since years but there are more places when plugins can be used, so I will try to point few of them:

WCX (content)

They are mostly used for unpacking but few of them exist for handling non-archive formats support: like audio files conversion, images resizing, files encryption or directories listing.

WDX (content)

Average knowledge: Find files tool, Multi Rename tool and files colouring feature;
Hidden stuff: files tooltips, information File overwrite dialogue, Custom filters, thumbnails labels, File attributes dialogue;

WFX (content)

Their use cases vary: external devices support, system Registry editing, CD/DVD burning or… viewing Miranda IM messages. There are many more features available but each WFX plugin is completely different case to be wrote about. Trying to describe them all is just the waste of the time :)

WLX (content)

Average knowledge: files thumbnails;
Hidden stuff: thumbnails in Files overwrite dialogue;

Obviously: that's not all but I don't really think I should try to copy http://en.totalcmd.pl/download or http://www.totalcmd.net/. I would rather leave the place for curious explorers.

BUT one thing I must say: even after few years of using TC, I still find something "new" sometimes.

1.0.19 is out!

SpellCheck dialogue can be resized now.
I have also fixed small bug with new lines in HTML code generated for Preview panel.

If you still have problems, please download standard version first and overwrite existing files with the ones from this archive:

If some error will occur, post any details then.

Can you post "Detalis"? What happens with clean INI file?

Can you try debug version (just replace EXE and copy PDB files into BBCeditor directory) and post "Details" too?

If there is no problem with new INI, please post old one. Of course, use spoiler tag for it :)

Small reminder: you can customize any element of the Preview panel using mentioned style.css file. Just investigate it a little bit more :)

If you know HTML and CSS and miss some IDs / classes / tags, then take a look on generated Preview code (RMB -> View source). If you see what is behind, you should create nice layout easily.

Is it possible to make the 'Spell Check' dialogue larger? It would be good, when using a larger font, to see more of the 'text being checked'. At the moment, a larger font means fewer words in view. I see the dialogue has a resizer, but it's disabled.
-cranioscopical

I will try to make it resizable (with width / height saving).

Is it possible to change the font in the preview pane? Or at least its size?
-cranioscopical
That is what style.css file exists for :)

You can add this to it:
Code: CSS [Select]
  1. body
  2. {
  3. font-size:x-large;
  4. }

Can you display the icons attached to the new 'single tag, simple text' in the preview pane?
-cranioscopical

You need to specify proper HTML tag for your simple texts. Please, take a look on first screenshot from my previous post.

Simply written: <img src="YOUR PATH TO FILE" />

The best ways is to copy button image path into src attribute quotes.

1.0.18 is ready :)

Most important change: "simple text" option for custom buttons!

Sample usage:

1. set your button like:

bbc_01.png

2. get result:

bbc_02.PNG

I understand it completely because it happened to me few times too.

The strangest issue was with already mentioned nVidia. I am always switching off unnecessary garbage from my system tray in home PC but at office you've got preconfigured environment to work with and lot of apps you're not aware of. So it took me more than 15 minutes and physical screen rotation (hopefully: LCD) to figure out what happened. I was in the middle of writing and my whole screen rotated unexpected. I was wondering who, the hell, had thought it was "nice to have" feature ;)

No software installations overwrite existing software's hotkeys, Or the existing ones refuse to yield and then I can't use them in the new software...
-J-Mac

As far as I understand, BBCeditor does not overwrite "existing software's hotkeys". It has it's own set but you can tell the same about any other application in your system. I don't think there is easy way to check which shortcuts are occupied globally because there are too many "tricks" behind it: registry entries, Start menu keys, services, background applications with keyboard hooks or drivers. Do you really think I should check all possibilities and disable not suited combinations?

The only solution I can see is to make my set configurable but this is something I still have to learn and can't do right away.

That is why I assumed that common shortcuts (i.e. Ctrl+B) are safe enough to be used. I thought the same thing about combinations which exist in other editors (i.e. Ctl+Space in Visual Studio).

I never know what will happen when I press the hotkeys now. Grrrr.  !!
-J-Mac
For BBCeditor: Help -> Shortcuts.

I've always thought that I should always expect that focused application keys have priority. If other application starts working while sitting in tray or background then it is its "fault". It is rather non-standard behaviour to be worried about hooks set by other applications. I.e. how can I predict that nVidia will take Alt+LeftArrow to rotate screen by 90 degrees or FARR will pop up? It is almost impossible to do.

I feel your criticism is undeserved because I simply did what I had thought would be the best: to follow other editors shortcuts as much as possible.

I will try to limit my keys a little bit (i.e. Ctrl+Space and Ctrl+Alt+Space for snippets only) but I don't really know how far should I go.

I think it's almost possible now:
1. add custom button
2. set it as: Single
3. set BBcode as: ;)
4. set HTML code: img src="D:\txt_garbage\thumbsup.png"
5. set picture path: D:\txt_garbage\thumbsup.png

Do I understand correctly that the only difference would be to not have [] added and/or allow skipping HTML code for it at all?

If yes, I could do it in next version :)

I wonder how does it compare to Total Commander (of course ;) ) and Multi Rename Tool with this plugin:

Is it really supposed to take hours?
