General Software Discussion / ZoneLabs makes the worst garbage ever!
« Last post by nite_monkey on July 01, 2007, 02:25 PM »
ZoneLabs, the makers of ZoneAlarm firewall, makes the worst programs EVER! They are worst than viruses! All the viruses I have ever had only make 1 to a couple of programs stop working, where as ZoneLabs' crap makes EVERYTHING stop working. I installed their firewall on my computer a long time ago, it crashed my computer, I had to put my hard drive in a different computer, and remove the firewall, and just today I installed their internet security suite, because I had forgot that I had already tried their firewall, and then when it told me to restart my computer and got back to windows, the piece of crap blocked everything on my computer from running, so I had to restart into safe mode and uninstall it. When I say it blocked everything, I mean, when ever I try to open anything, it instantly crashes before it opens. I couldn't even open the task manager. The only thing I could open was my computer. So I will never be using anything ZoneLabs makes ever again. If you have had any problems with their garbage, let me know, I want to see what problems other people are having.

Living Room / Re: windows xp sound broke
« Last post by nite_monkey on June 30, 2007, 01:18 PM »
I'm downloading drivers for my sound card, just to see if that will do something. I doubt it will though, because I updated the sound drivers not to long ago and it didn't cause this problem, but it's still worth a try I guess.

edit: Ok, so the sound didn't break, my computer broke the sound drivers. I just got done installing the sound driver update, and now the problem is fixed.
Thanks for your help anyways guys.

Yeah thats what I was thinking, but I haven't found out what keeps changing it back yet, I'm gonna look and see if I can, and then I'll go into safe mode and see what that does.

edit:ok, so I booted into safe mode, but there was no soundcard in safe mode. I don't know if there was something I was missing, I never use safe mode. And I couldn't find any program or anything running that would be doing it either, so I will have to do more research, unless someone has had this problem before and knows what to do to fix it.

Living Room / windows xp sound broke
« Last post by nite_monkey on June 29, 2007, 01:49 PM »
My computer won't let me change audio recording sources. When ever I select anything, it just unselects it and selects the stereo mix input. I don't want to select just stereo, because I have to turn it down really low, otherwise when I record anything it sounds like crap, but my mic is too quiet going through the stereo input because it is turned down too low. That isn't too confusing is it? Let me make a screen shot and see if that makes more sense.
test.gif
That is what happens when I try to select anything other than the stereo input.

I guess you would call it that? I am looking for a simple freeware program that will let me take 2 or more avi video files and join them together. I don't want it to change the codecs or anything like that, just merge them together, all the video files are the same resolution, the same frame rate, and have the same audio and video codecs. I have a program right now, but it wants me to choose audio and video codecs that it will convert the files into while merging them together. If anyone could help me out here, that would be great, thanks.

edit:ok, I don't have a program right now, the one I was using made the audio off, the audio would play, and a couple of seconds later the video would play.
edit2: Ok, I found a method that works, I'm using camtasia studio to merge the clips that I converted.

« Last post by nite_monkey on June 21, 2007, 08:43 AM »
I don't use the start menu anymore, now that I went through and organized all the shortcuts in the start menu and on the desktop into folders on the desktop. now all I have to do is click on the desktop tool bar that I have on the task bar and navigate to the program I want to run.

Post New Requests Here / IDEA:start program in low priority
« Last post by nite_monkey on June 20, 2007, 10:28 AM »
Ok, this should be an easy build, all you need to code it is autohotkey, but I am not good with autohotkey, so I need someone else to code it for me. Please and thank you.

I am trying to make a script that will make desktop shortcuts with custom settings.
I want an autohotkey script that when you open it, a dialog window will pop up and you type in what you want the window title to be.
then, another dialog box will pop up, and you type in the location to the program.
The script would then make a shortcut on the desktop that would look like this:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start "text from window title dialog box" /low "text from program location dialog box"

so an example output would be:
~Window title Dialog Box~
Input:Adobe Photoshop

~Program location Dialog Box~
Input:C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 6.0\Photoshp.exe

then a shortcut would be put on the desktop, and in the target box, the following would be added:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start "Adobe Photoshop" /low "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 6.0\Photoshp.exe"

I don't need this part, but if you want to, you can add a third box where you can add commands like -window

nah, I think I figured it out, some bugs were getting into my room, and they were biting me at night while I slept, and I am pretty sure that was the problem because I have gotten rid of most if not all of them and now the problem has gone away.

Living Room / Re: Why is Hotmail so bad at spam?
« Last post by nite_monkey on June 16, 2007, 01:11 PM »
Easy, hotmail gives you a free account, how do they make money giving away free accounts?
1. from the people that are stupid enough to buy their paid accounts.
or
2. By selling your email address to tons and tons of spam companies.
I am glad I use gmail, I only use hotmail to chat with my friends, and the only time I check my hotmail account is when I want to make sure it hasn't expired yet so I can still chat with my friends.

Just picture this with me.
Some fat guy with a foot long hotdog sits at a desk all day.
Fat guy: Man this hotdog is good!...wait, wasn't I supposed to be doing something?...
(little voice inside his head that no one seems to listen to): block all that porn spam from coming into people's in-boxes.
Fat guy: ...NAH! MAN this hotdog is so good.

there is a video on youtube where someone has a triple boot of mac, linux, and xp, and to switch between them, all he has to do is push a hot key, I'll see if I can find the video.

edit: here it is windows|mac|ubuntu

General Software Discussion / Re: Combining partitions
« Last post by nite_monkey on June 09, 2007, 06:38 PM »
if only one partition has data on it then you can remove the partition and increase the main one with no problems at all, I have done that. I had a vista duel boot, but it messed up, so I deleted the vista partition and increased my xp partition with partition magic, and had no problems.

I keep the same computer for years, (I don't currently have my own car, or a job) but then when I finally do get a new computer I give the old one to my brother, and then he takes it apart, and uses the parts on what ever he decides to use them on.

ok Seriously, does MS really think they are still cool? They should rename their company to macro thief. First in their vista they stole ideas from mac and they stole their search feature from Google (Google desktop), and now they are using someone else's ideas for touch technology, though at least they are giving him some credit. Time for me to go do mass research on how to use linux, and then switch to linux.

the monitors are a couple of years old. I am not 100% positive this is the case, but it only happens when I am at my computer, though, it only started about 2 days ago, so I am not sure exactly what the deal is.

Living Room / allergic to computer monitor
« Last post by nite_monkey on May 26, 2007, 01:29 PM »
So about 2 days ago I was using my computer which has two crt monitors, and after a while my hands started to itch, and prety soon little bumps that look like bug bites showed up, and then my hands started to hurt. I then did some research, and found out that the monitors contain Triphenyl phosphate, which is a chemical that is saposed to help keep monitors from catching on fire, and it has been know to cause allergic reactions, so I was wondering if anyone knows if lcd computer monitors contain this chemical? If they don't that would be cool, and maybe I could some how get enough money to buy me one, and then maybe I could use my computer with out having my hands iritating me. I couldn't find any information on the internet about if lcds have this, so if anyone knows, could you please let me know, thanks.
