CLCL is a portable app:
create a fresh copy of the programme somewhere completely different
  • Close your current one if running
  • Do whatever it is you're suggesting above -  copy relevant files/over
  • Run new version, check if successful
  • Finally I would delete second install to avoid confusion

I cant yet figure out how to easily change (already chosen) language keyboards in it.
Try swiping the space bar sideways...

This just moves the caret back and forth for me.
this works now for me (thanks) . I don't think it did initially: the keyboard name was also not initially shown. But all good now
Deozaan, I see the keyboard name is not shown when on the numeric part of the keyboard -- could that have been what happened with you?

I cant yet figure out how to easily change (already chosen) language keyboards in it. This is very intuitive and clear in Gboard (long press on spacebar).

Interesting, didn't know that - my GBoard has a world symbol [ Invalid Attachment ] next the space bar: tap it and it cycles through whatever keyboards you have; long press and it shows a selection list.

Of course, that means I can inadvertently tap it instead of the space bar and find myself typing in Cyrillic  ;D
with me it's not so extreme, I just get my z's and my y's confused :-)

^I just typed an in depth comparison of Swiftkey and Gboard and it got deleted by this ddos protection system :-/  :( >:(

Summary

I missed Swiftkey after moving from a Windows to an Android phone. The autocorrect is much better imo (it *is* weaker in some areas, e.g. if I accidentally ty pe a space in a word).

I cant yet figure out how to easily change (already chosen) language keyboards in it. This is very intuitive and clear in Gboard (long press on spacebar). Autocorrect in both seem to be able to cope well with changing languages on the fly, even within a sentence (I often end up typing Denglish, a mix of German and English).

Google/Android is pretty obnoxious about me choosing another keyboard:
warns  "This input method may be able to collect the text I type, including [..]". Which makes me wonder if google are already doing that :-/
They add an icon to the bottom bar to enable a quick return to Gboard -- it clutters and doesn't look good EDIT// actually only allows switch to Google voice board

Skwire Empire / Re: Release: sWeather (tray-based weather app)

Folks, looking over the past weeks posts you seem all to be polite and respectful to one another. I like this atmosphere alot. Would someone be so kind as to point me to a similar civilized forum. I'm interest in politic, social policy, security, religion and would love a place to hang.
hi TechTeacher,
I can't help you there - would find such a forum of interest myself.
When those topics get involved, people tend to get heated and a lot less civilised - which is why we avoid politics and religion here** (if someone insists on posting something in that direction it usually gets ignored, may even get removed, or moved to a 'basement' board that's only visible to members).

**Sometimes those topics and our topics of interest do overlap, so you will see the odd thread e.g. re Snowden

I can not receive weather updates today in sWeather. I have checked and Yahoo weather is up with no problems but a Refresh does not bring in the weather, it just has NA in the Tray.
see:
Important EOL Notice: As of Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, the weather.yahooapis.com and query.yahooapis.com for Yahoo Weather API will be retired.
To continue using our free Yahoo Weather APIs, use https://weather-ydn-...ahoo.com/forecastrss. Contact [email protected] for credentials to onboard to this free Yahoo Weather API service.
:( Should I start looking for a replacement for sWeather ?

I've applied for access to the new API and am waiting to hear back.  If approved, and if I can make sWeather work with the new API, no, you won't have to look for a replacement.  If I cannot get it working with the new API, yes, you will.

There's also the scenario where an item is filtered out, and it's only then that you realise how important it is to you...
So yes, undo button good :-)
585
hi screenshot1,
it works here:
probably best to update SC and try again -- current version is 4.31.2
586
I don't use CLCL, but I'm pretty sure it's a portable app. As such it should not be in either of the "program files" folders, as it cannot modify files in those folders.
Re backup of portable apps, I tend to just copy the whole app folder and zip it, adding the version number or date in the zip name.
Hopefully some CLCL user can confirm the above, and maybe be more specific re backup.
587
it works for me... but I don't see any obvious reason why it shouldn't be working for you!?
after the failed search, if you extend the ADVANCED search panel, how does it look like?
further info plus screenshot sent per email to info@ etc

Having another go here (version 2.0.0.0) :
I can find 1960_Mary.jpg (full filename) but searching *Mary* finds nothing?

Help says that
searching for TEST by name will find files called TESTME.TXT and FIRST TEST.TXT, but will not find A1TEST.DOC. To find the last file you must use explicit wildcards like *TEST*.

Yes Minister (TV series)
Also been watching that lately. From the 1980s but still very fresh: brilliantly written and acted. (Many/most episodes available on YT.)
Highly recommended (also the follow-up series, Yes Prime Minister (after promotion).
590
thanks nikos
I haven't been a great beta-tester: I still want to search my tagged photos, and see if I can find associated text in png's (via mouser's Screenshot Captor), but I just havent had *any* time lately. I will get back to it but not sure when (later in the week hopefully -- will post again then).
591
Did you add only basic information in the catalog or full properties + preview?
basic info only added

as a search path use "dr::catalog\XX" where XX is the number of the problematic import (as seen in MANAGE MEDIA dialog). Then do a basic search like having a ? in the filename box (will match any name). This will show you all files imported from this external storage. Is there anything found?
this method did not work for any of the drives added !!
I tried with and without quotes -- I get the message: "Please supply a valid root folder for the search"
See copied text & shots below:
mid   serialNo   label   comment

Screenshot - 2018-12-11 , 16_36_23.png
Screenshot - 2018-12-11 , 16_37_04.png

EDIT//
if I search offline for '?' (not adding any number to dr::catalog) it lists files from the other drives. But none from the first import. I guess I will delete it and add it again. But not today.
592
Now, more important stuff:
I can confirm that my first external drive added does not work -- i.e. I can find nothing from that first import -- I am finding files from other imports so I'm presuming it's the import that didnt work.
Now I could try importing again which might solve the problem, but thought it might be of interest to try and figure out why it isn't working -- what do you recommend?

okay:
--------------------------
desktop rulez
---------------------------
Added 311430 files in the offline catalog
Now you can search for them even when the device isn't connected
Do you want to add another folder?
---------------------------
Yes   No
---------------------------
If now search offline:
I add text used in multiple filenames to the [Name] field, the first field gets filled with [dr::catalog] and I get the voice message:
"Computer says no"

(I did reimport a couple of folders from that drive, due to changed content -- these were the files that were found on further testing.)
593
the mystery not finding files is probably explained because in screenshot #1 you are searching for infoQube in file contents (text inside file)
sry, user error in that case
Be careful which box you use for your search conditions. Also, right click on a search toolbar and pick Autoarrange from the menu to tidy up the search boxes
which reinforces my point that the layout should work better out of the box. If I resize the window I see this
Screenshot - 2018-12-11 , 13_14_36.png
Again, as said above, I now see the autoarrange, but the idea I needed to find something like that didnt occur to me.
I realise that UI may not have been your focus when looking for beta testers, but if we (new users) have trouble getting past the first post...

(I promise not to mention this point again.)

Screenshot Captor / Re: where is the options page?
« Last post by tomos on December 09, 2018, 10:27 AM »
I finally found the icon to right click on to get the options page and set up a hot key that works. Thank you very much. It seems a rather obscure place and method to find the options page, but I'm glad to have found it.
hi nofat,
some more info below which might be of interest.
(SC = Screenshot Captor)

the 'tray' (also know as the notifications or system tray) down there bottom-right is often used  for software that is normally left running, but itn't usually very actively used.

Windows also has a habit of hiding a lot of the icons shown there. I'm using Windows 7 -- screenshot show how to choose which icons will always display (i.e. without having to click the arrow to show them)

Screenshot - 2018-12-09 , 17_22_10.png

The SC tray icon right-click menu has a lot of possibilities and already allows you to do a lot with SC (including changing some settings).

If you have a Screenshot Captor desktop icon, you can (also) double-click that to open the main window. Options etc. can be found in the menus there. Skimming the Options will give you an idea of the capability of SC. Best of luck with it :-)
595
UI related:
until I found the 'Auto arrange' option for toolbars, I was having trouble when resizing the window -- the most important field i.e. the [Name] search field disappears on the right-hand side. In my opinion 'Auto arrange' should be enabled by default.

(Although I notice if enabled once, when I restart deskrule window, it displays correctly and can cope with resizing correctly.)
596
OK, there is a problem here, but I'm having trouble pinning it down:
very often when I search for stuff that I know is there - nothing is found. Eventually I can get it to work -- but when (1) I deleted the ini files and restart, the problem reoccurred. (2) I see the ini file has not been replaced (setting has been changed to Registry) and I notice that (3) there is no indication that deskrule is still running (nothing in the tray).

Screenshots:

(a) after ini file deleted
Screenshot - 2018-12-09 , 16_15_34.png

(b) after I clicked on advanced search and pressed return again (but unfortunately I unsure where the focus was)
Screenshot - 2018-12-09 , 16_27_46.png

edit// FWIW: screenshot (a) has two tabs -- advanced and detective; shot (b) has only detective. This confusing (I know I should RTM more and it may be explained). I cannot (intuitively) figure out how to get the advanced back. Again I know I should read up help looking in help I cannot find why advanced disappeared and just detective tab is there.

edit#2// re (1) above: when I delete the ini file again, it works as expected i.e. that's not reproducible...
597
if you don't like deskrule's talking error messages, use OPTIONS toolbar button to turn it off
thanks, no, I dont like it, but what bothered me most was that it was there -- and then it wasnt there -- this may well have been something to do with my system rather than deskrule. I cannot now reproduce that problem, and have disabled the voice.

@ital2, you mention the other thread here, so I'll comment here about that here: I often notice here on dc that people have a problem with directness, misunderstanding it for rudeness, or as being 'loaded' with something or other, as opposed to simple and straight-forward. You are very direct yourself, but having already jumped to conclusions, and seeing protagonists as opposed to someone who is trying to add value to the topic, you destroy most chances of actually reaching any understanding or having any meaningful interaction of value. Of course things are sometimes not completely simple and straight-forward, but the point remains valid: jumping to conclusions, putting someone in a box, and attacking them just kills any possibilities -- and generally just makes for a shitty mood.

The ability to edit an existing entry would be great. I suffer from 'fat fingers' and am forever making typos. It's frustrating having to delete/recreate an entry just 'cos I've made a single typo.
hi Rick,
pressing F2 works to edit currently selected entry

"computer says no" means that nothing can be found matching your search parameters
it is an odd way of phrasing it (I realise that's Microsoft's responsibility).
Why did it first work with voice and later just with an error message in the statusbar? I don't recall any error message in the statusbar when I got the voice message.
