Allen, pardon my ignorance, but what does MDI stand for?

I like Opera, it's almost my default.
Perhaps 9.5 will help me make the definite step.
If there's one thing that i appreciate is the fact that the widgets are functional with any build (something that would be nice for Firefox extensions) but i don't find them that useful.
Speed is still in Opera's territory but Firefox3 is catching up (in fact i think it now has surpassed Opera).

Guess that answers my question!
So, if the security issue is or rather, has shifted from the essential AV program the next and likely more important asset is a good browser like Opera and Firefox with AdblockPlus extension added on to it. There are other aids like McAfee site advisor extension for Firefox, did i miss something else?

I don't want to go away from the AV issue,
but from the looks of it, the major threats are no longer "really" related to AV issues.
Perhaps someone could give his/her 2cents worth about SpySweeper?

BetaNews describes AdAware8 as an AV program at freeware level (correction needed i believe).

Its hard to remember the last time I had an anti-virus program installed on my PC.  Sometime in the mid to late 90s I would guess.  Back then it wasn't as big a problem and these days I know how to not get infected.  I don't suggest people roll the way I do though.

I don't think you're the only one to do so.
With AVG8 hogging up so much energy I've decided to do without (even though i've tried AVAST free edition which did quite well), so i've been doing away with one now for about a week.
If you share your PC with others, then that can make it a must.
Haven't had a virus attack in about a year (then again, it was AVG's own mistake which mistook a k-meleon.exe file as a virus - of all things!).

Although the "show experimental addons" was a bit tricky to find, i did make it.
Add Bookmark Here2 did the trick (no need for OpenBook). Thanks!

BTW, Mouse Gestures has been updated and seems to be doing just fine.

Now if i can find an extension for my Thunderbird contacts that syncs just fine with GMail...
We're off hunting again!

I'm using Diigo's bookmarking system but somehow still prefer FX's, especially with new tagging method and Foxmarks beta which supports this new bookmarking way. It always faster to find what your looking for now with the url field acting like LocationBar2 and more!   :Thmbsup:

I'm also using Diigo, and I like it in general, but not sure if I'll stick with it yet. The new bookmark system of FF3 is apparently giving ruse to a horde of new extensions. Many of them are now marked as experimental. We'll see how many of them mature in the end.

With extensions checking disabled, i now have an issue with tabs interface.
The "x" to close them no longer appears and i don't feel like going through the safe mode process to find out which extension is giving the problem. Have work to do!

Update: by chance, it turns out a skin was making the "x" disappearing from the tabs.

Does your mouse have a middle button? I close tabs with it all the time. Not sure what makes it working, though: Firegesture, Tab Mix Plus, or something else.

It looks like a no go.
Thanks just the same, looks like i will have to wait for next official Firefox release.
The speed enhancement to this browser makes this waiting time most bearable.

I finally decided to be brave and followed lanux128's tip about creating new boolean.
3 out of 23 (including themes) fail to work.
No crashes, not bad i say!

Of course, one of those three that fail to work is my fav OpenBook...  :'(


FX3RC1 seems to chew up more on CPU than FX2 (with extensions compatibility check off, even more).

As was anxious to test latest FX3RC1,
i simply followed the Mozillazine thread which shows you how to set up Minefield and have it run side by side with FX2 (c'est la même chose):
1. Create new profile (without starting it);
2. Install FX3RC1 (without running it);
3. Right-click FX3RC1 icon > Properties, on the Target: line add the following:
space hyphen P space profileName

If not, just wait for the latest upgrade, i'm sure it won't be long now.

BTW, FireGestures fails to work on RC1 so, checked out MouseGestures once again and it won't work either. Went over to the creators' page and he made a beta which works! Yay!!!  :-*
FireGestures' creator has no beta as of today.

As usual, most extensions are not available but at least i have MouseGestures and AdblockPlus and Google's Notebook!   :D  LocationBar2 won't be necessary anymore in this version.

As some know from a previous post, i regret AVG8 for becoming bloatware or mem hog.

Was on AVG8 Network Ed., went to free version still unhappy.

Tried AVAST and was content.

But... being more incline on not opening attachments anymore i uninstalled it and now run without any AV. Not wise? Wonder how many users here do the same nowadays?

Actually, Mouse Gestures was one but i found an excellent replacement with Fire Gestures!

Bookmark Duplicate Detector has always been part of my repertoire.

Geeze, i wonder which browser SRI finally opted for?

Maxthon seems to also have some security related options that AVANT does not. Personally, i've been deeper into latest Opera (9972) which by default is most secure than any on the market (least that's what i am told).

Working fine here.

BTW, RecentX is a fine program even if it does occasionally spurt up on resources.
But it's nothing that serious.

From a practical point of view, i find myself more often wondering where i visited a certain webpage than on my last viewed documents. If you do percentage check of webpages visited over documents you last worked on, i'm sure you'll find which one you check up most quite easily.

With FARR always on and Opera's latest builds that offer excellent bookmark/history search i don't feel the need for RecentX much anymore.

In fact, i bought it a while ago and did find that it used more resources than i felt it should.

Don't use it nor need it anymore.

It's been on SF for ages.

The code has always been open and for the taking, but the code is ugly, since I was learning as I went, and it would be quite difficult to expand it without first refactoring the heck out of it. I intended to rewrite the thing from scratch, but never managed to put together anything. Not for lack of trying, I just tried to bit more than I could chew.

I'm afraid the project is the opposite of active :)

Even for desktop searches I use a small grep tool called: BareGrep 

Really love this piece of freeware. Get it from www.baremetalsoft.com

My system is not indexed in any way and it takes 1.5 seconds to search my complete C: drive for all *.jpg files (and finding 6045 of them).

It is also portable (one executable file which is about 200 kilobyte in size).

There is a minor issue with PC Tools.
If you have more than one user on XP Home you must shut off on one before loging into another.   :(
