This should give you an idea of what flavors of Linux you can install on that thing, complete with helpful links: http://penguinppc.or...out-2/distributions/

Yours would be a G4, 32-bit, New World ROM, so stick to the list at the top of the page.

As far as a useful purpose for it once you have it installed, if not using it as some sort of a HTPC, your guess is as good as mine. (And if you are going to use it for a HTPC, GeeXboX would probably be your best bet, and for that, v1.2.3 is last version supporting PPC)

Wish I had some silly humor to bring this thread back to topic, but I'm fresh out.  :-[

Here, let me help.  :D

Dr. Batty's Asthma Cigarettes:  "Not recommended for Children under 6"
:D
I wonder were they actually made with tobacco though -
there is a herb (Coltsfoot I think) that is supposed to improve asthma when smoked.

Back in the days when people didn't associate their constant coughing with their smoking habits, it was believed that their cough was asthma, and anything that made them cough up more gunk was good for them. So, yes, often that meant giving tobacco filled cigarettes to asthmatic children, to make them cough more.

About the only ones that used a reasonably effective treatment for asthma were the Mormons and Native Americans, who used a tea made from ephedra.

Just remember, there was no FDA back then, and snake oil salesmen were a dime a dozen.

Is anyone else having a hard time imagining IainB as a demon driver?  :-[

When I was a child, I witnessed my father turn into a demon driver. His eyes got big, he had this scary clenched jaw smile, his shoulders went up, and his head jutted forward, as he turned his head towards my stepmother in the passenger seat and shouted out in the creepiest voice I have ever heard, "I've got the right of way! The road's all mine!"

After witnessing that I will believe anyone can turn into a demon driver.

New topic
Where was that awesome rant about Daylight savings time and programming, where the final answer was "just use the open source subroutine and don't mess with it"?

I ran into this in a big way today getting ready for a live podcast!

It was on time zones, and I can't find the post on here, but here's the video:

I'm not sure what that has to do with this thread.

It's a funny video!  :D

Speaking of Daylight Savings time ending and causing weird issues, my husband worked tonight, over the 2AM mark when the clocks changed back. If the clocks had not changed, he would have clocked out at 2:30AM, but since the clocks had changed, his time slip says he clocked out at 1:30AM, but doesn't say which 1:30AM it was (1st or 2nd). So now his manager has to submit a list of everyone that worked tonight and clocked out after the change, so they all get an extra hour's worth of pay manually added to their paychecks.  :D

In the US, they were a one-hit-wonder, with this song, introducing Americans to the phrase "pissing the night away", which we mistakenly thought meant something else.
Curious. What did people think it meant when they first heard it?

Unless, of course, they take it in the literal sense in which you'd need a very big water tank ;)

In this case, it was taken quite literally. And since that seemed too weird for a lovely female voice to be singing about, many thought she had to be saying something else, and white washed it, interpreting it as "dancing the night away", even though it doesn't sound like she is saying that at all.  ;D

Reminds me a little of the somewhat anti-capitalist anti-bullshit anti establishment Scottish group Chumbawumba who produced some brilliant and often beautiful songs and music which not only took the piss but also were making cutting (sometimes cringingly so) socio-political commentary. If you are unfamiliar with British humour, then you might not get some of their music. When you do get it, you will find that some of it is not very pleasant at all to the people/objects they (Chumbawumba) deride/despise. (Still probably well worth a listen though.)

complete a certain number of coding snack requests
What's that number? :-[ And who decides? :tellme: ;)

Mouser decides, and I don't remember what he said the number will be. All I remember is that I would not qualify to get one of the t-shirts, myself, yet.

If that were made into a shirt, I would so buy it!

The idea is not to buy it, but to earn it. It's supposed to be a reward for those that complete a certain number of coding snack requests.

I can work on it locally, then package the whole thing up, database & all, and then hand it over to mouser. It would then be up to him to use it or not. And if he chooses not to, do I then host it myself? Does etiquette say that's an acceptable thing to do? Or do I end up having to accept the idea that I just did a ton of work for nothing?  :tellme:

So, what you need to do is go through your websites, find and fix any Delicious links that are pointing to the old legacy del.icio.us domain and change them all to delicious.com.

« Last post by app103 on October 27, 2014, 04:52 PM »
Google blacklisted bit.ly several days ago in a move that caught many publishers off guard. We started seeing spotty reports of del.icio.us being blacklisted over the weekend and it has now gone full-blown with all del.icio.us links apparently being blacklisted by Chrome as hosting malware.

[...]

Delicious has changed hands several times over the years and recently was re-sold earlier this year to Science Inc. They also rebranded several years ago to delicious.com which is not blacklisted, but there are likely a large number of legacy .us links out there. [Edit: Thanks Kelson]

Bit.ly has now been removed from Google’s Safe Browsing list which is the list that Google maintains of known malicious websites that engage in malware distribution and phishing. [Edit: Correction, we are still seeing bit.ly links being flagged by Google's GSB and Chrome] It’s also one of the data sources that Wordfence uses to scan your site’s files, posts and comment for malicious activity and infections.

Overall, this is probably one of the most depressing threads I've read in a long time.  :(

I'm not a coder. But I am a musician. And if musicians (as a collective) can routinely gather "fiercely independent personalities" (including the occasional hyper-talented albeit bona fide sociopath) to collaborate on artistically valid, and financially remunerative projects...I'm wondering why coders can't do the same?

Is this 'problem' real? Or is it just something coders have programmed themselves to believe?

I wasn't speaking about developers in general. I was speaking about here and from experience.

Check the date on this post and read through that thread: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=25932.0

That thread was started after a discussion in the IRC channel, and mouser suggested I post about it and get some input from the community.

Almost 3.5 years later and I am sitting here with the feeling that I should have just gone ahead and done it, and handed it to mouser. And it still bothers me enough that I am considering just doing it and calling it my NANY project for this year.  :(

And I don't care if it ends up only being used for a few months, or ultimately, a few years.

So, it's not that there isn't a desire to contribute, and not that we don't want to work together. Some of us are still waiting for their assignments, have sat by and watched someone else end up with the assignment they were best suited for, watched that person eventually abandon the project, and are getting the feeling that they are never going to be taken seriously, and are trying really hard not to take it personally and feel insulted by it.

Is that how big projects get done? Obviously not, if 3.5 years later we still don't have a DoCo 2.0 or at the very least, a proper software repository.

Do you all (who originally joined that group) remember?

Yes, I do...and I remember the one on Flickr, too...and maybe a few other places. We don't seem to do so well as a group, when we wander away from home (this forum).

We have peanut, peanut butter and mint M & Ms, why not raisin M & Ms? Wine tastes better chilled, so do chocolate-covered raisins.

We also have plain, coconut, dark chocolate, almond, pretzel, and crispy (which tastes like a malted ball).

You want fruit? Eat Skittles.  :P

Is there an official Cody svg or png?

Not official, but there is a Cody vector that I made for Paintshop Pro, attached to this post.
