Bah. F FF. Or F Fx. Whatever. Sick of it. Damn thing froze on me while trying to scroll down the page. The mouse was already sluggish inside of it. I can't be bothered to fart around with it anymore.

v15.

I'm having scrolling problems occasionally too - page freezes when scrolling with mouse wheel.

tomos,

I would like to open a file without the thumbnail panel.
btw I can't make it work as well with the thumbnail panel dragging to the panel as you told me to do.
sorry -
I thought you want to drag a file from a filemanager to SC (I was reading too quick).
Drag-drop to editor doesnt work AFAIK.

Here's another possibility:
The "thumbnail panel" doesnt have to be a thumbnail panel - as I said above, it works like an explorer window (may even be using explorer?). Right-click (not on a thumbnail) and change view to details. That is remembered. That solves your problem with thumbnails loading too slowly.

Although you'd never mistake the sound of a box violin for that of a fine concert instrument, that doesn't take away from just how good it does sound. Something that flies in the face of the myth that decent sounding violin-type instruments are beyond the scope of the average instrument builder to create.

it sounds very impressive.
I really would like to hear it with something more "traditional" though - I mean it would suit that better.

Elmar is also involved in several other interesting projects such as this experimental "harp" guitar. This design combines several old ideas (i.e. 'harp' strings) with some modern innovations such as his own "flat pickup" design and using the obscure 'sliding rail' mount for a magnetic guitar pickup.

The results are wonderful:

that has a really lovely sound

I tried to drag and drop an image file in the SC editor
That doesn't work?

drag to the thumbnail panel (that works like windows explorer)

Oeps.. how do I open an image in the editor without the screenshot panel?

I wasn't sure what exactly was meant by "screenshot panel" but happened to see this:

(dont know if it's remembered on reopening)

Works fine here on Win7 64 bit

My quick (saved) test doesnt look quite as neat as your screenshot though:

As some of you may know from a previous post in this thread, I'm into the whole cigarbox guitar and homemade musical instrument thing.

have a look at the first couple of minutes of this video (go to 0:30 if you're impatient), they show box and tin fiddles. The tin fiddles (1:00) are amazing quality - unfortunately we dont get to hear them play (I dont know if any are playing quality any more).

So can I hope someone can soon make an easy to use software for that??????

My ideal backup/versioning programme would do what you want - easily.
But I think it doesnt exist (not in the "easily" form anyways).

FWIW I'm currently using FileHamster, but that doesnt do exactly what you want either.

I have a generic minivan, but I went the other way and last started calling it the Haunted Van, after taking it to several car shops with a problem, they do stuff, and then the problem is still there.

maybe it's the car shops that are haunted :D

Review of ACDSee Pro 5 here on the imaging review site
http://www.imaging-r...dsee-pro-5/index.htm

It's mainly a review of the new non-destructive editing of images - they give a very positive review, apart from interface annoyances.
Management gets very little attention.

They give the impression that it could be a good replacement for Lightroom - for those that cant, or dont want to, afford Lightroom.

some concluding remarks
The interface made using ACDSee Pro a less than pleasant experience but we enjoyed seeing the results of our efforts. So we have no little respect for what ACDSee has achieved with Pro. ... it knows how to save a difficult image.

... so much power packed into such an affordable package.
...
For some of us, ACDSee Pro may be the only option. It's nice to know it can keep up with anyone.
And for everybody else, well, don't look back, somebody may be gaining on you.

My queries are-

  • has anyone here tried it?
  • how did you get on?
  • how good is the management/cataloging side of it?

It's on special offer till Sept 17th -for US IP's at any rate- US$59.99 - for me the special offer is "converted" to euros and adds up to over US$96:
[I really hate that BS - you click on a 59.99 offer and get that... It looks like, but isnt at all clear that that includes 15% VAT/tax - but that should only make it $69, *not* $96.]

Was trying to find out more about Qemu Puppy and found this brief summary with links to instructions in the portableapps forum. (Not using it myself, just curious).

http://portableapps.com/node/27118

Skimming a couple of the links, IIUC it seems you get a virtual OS that isn't recognised by the main OS - so if you want to access the main OS you go through the virtual OS as opposed to the other way around. Which seems okay.

But "Ordering" isn't in there.

"Ordering" is realtively new so probably help file not up to date.
Just tried ASC and DESC - dont seem to make any difference (? need a restart maybe) but havent otherwise experimented

Related thread - can I add new favourite to "end" of list? but nothing else new there really

Sorted here, thanks Ren

For the record (still on-topic)

I believe (but not 100% sure) that the default sort in the pop-up list involves moving a pasted clip to the top of the list (i.e. sort by last use). This is dictated by:

In the CHS window, right-click on the folder and click Edit this group.
Down the bottom are the sorting criteria:

I just noticed that I can use negative numbers even! Excellent! :D That makes it very easy to add new items to the bottom of the menu!

I'll have to revisit options - any tips how all this is done?

It has a fatal flaw - limited amount of coins and hence unavoidable deflation problem.

Vlastimil, what do you mean by deflation here - do you mean a decrease in the purchasing value of the money?

I would have thought "limited amount" would have lead to inflation of it's value (?)
But of course if it's not being used the value could deflate...
