General Software Discussion / Want to send a Batch file - but gmail & prob AV dont...
« Last post by tomos on September 24, 2012, 09:28 AM »
I want to send a batch file to someone in a corporate environment. I thought I'd send it as a text file but then realised their AV will probably kickup a fuss.
Then I though to just have the 'code' in the body of the email but their AV might pick up on that too (?)
I dont want to get my email (address) blocked :-\

I know that google drive is blocked for them, so probably lots of other sites are too.

So, just wondering if you've any suggestions, or do you think I'd get away with pasting it in email body?

________________________
It's a simple batch file that will create a list of files in the folder the file is in (+ sub-folders).
I patched it together from various sources so it may be 'funny peculiar' - but it works ;-)

Code: Text [Select]
  1. @ echo off
  2. chdir /C %~dp0
  3. dir/o /s >dir.txt
  4. exit

I can get a copy of Windows and Office for cheaper than the cost of one license of DOpus.

we cant ;-)

but I still kind of agree with you.

Every time is see a discussion like this I keep wishing we had a more formal tech KB at DoCo, Something along the lines of a nicely done wiki would be good. There is a deal of good information lurking down in the forum threads just waiting to be mined.

Hi Tinman, any chance you could add "Burning Studio" to the title in the OP.
Will make it easier to find, thanks!

I got version 11. I havent tried much with it yet, but it's not working out well for me so far:

  • burn .mp4 file to DVD - gave a codec error (I then installed DVD Flick and that worked fine)
  • the "Add" dialogue for data discs is pretty wonky - sub-folders show sometimes, sometimes not, sometimes some. I get it now, they're trying to hide all sub-folders, but not successfully
  • adding folders to a disc via the "Add" dialogue is almost impossible - I had to get the folder path and paste it. That may be intentional, but not helpful to me.

I think I'll leave it rest for a month or two, hopefully they'll bring out an update...

If you try a straightforward Ctrl+V afterwards, does it paste the correct clip?

This is my experience with an outliner (InfoQube) that uses Internet Explorer for it's text pane (html) - I'm not sure whose 'fault' that is.

I dont use Outlook myself so cannot confirm, but I'm wondering if it uses the IE engine as well for html text.

_______________
FWIW, I have no problem pasting in a forum I frequent that uses html formatting (not BBCode) - but I always use Firefox. (Just tried it in IE, the forum doesnt work properly there :( )

I know that I'm not using DO to its fullest potential, but there's just so much there!

I'm no real power user myself but I've gotten into using a few aspects that make my worklife easier.

I presume you've seen the thread Configuring Directory Opus for Fun and Profit.
There's a few good tips there!
Practical tips start about here (but there are a couple before too, just more reading required...)

Well Sync is straight-forward synchronising, can easily be replaced but is very convenient to compare folders within file manager.

Flat view will show all files in a folder *and* all it's sub-folders. They can be shown with or without folders; and grouped according to folder / or not.

Here's the FARR install folder - folders shown on top,
files below, parent folder shown in 'Location' column.

They've cut out a lot I'd miss too - no flat view, no sync, no admin mode, no multi-level undo.

They claim new reduced pricing -
I wonder are those prices in US or AU dollars??? Oops, I see there's almost no difference these days...

29 / 69 dollars - of some sort or other ;-) :)

There once was an Ontarian who's life long dream it was to be a Newfie. One day the man finally saw his doctor about it. The doctor examined him and gave him the prognosis, "Well, if you really want to be a Newfie there is a surgery I can perform, but I have to remove 1/3 of your brain." The Ontarian was so excited, he agreed to do it right away.

During the surgery however, the doctor's hand slipped. The doctor was so upset that he sat next to the man in the recovery room until he woke up. Finally the Ontarian woke up. The doctor immediately explain what happened, and told the Ontarian, "I am so sorry sir, my hand slipped during the surgery and I accidentally cut out 2/3 of your brain instead of 1/3."

The Ontarian looked confused and replied "Que ce que vous dit monsuier?"

ouch -that was very funny- but not for the Quebecois

that's a gigabit, isnt it?

The gigabit has the unit symbol Gbit or Gb

The packaging text indicates GB, not

Here's a scan of the packaging text from the 32GB card (I've drawn attention to the area in question by circling it in red):

it would look like they're misleading us then? Which I suspect is common...

Heh, confusing stuff... so the storage vendors using 10^(3n) system is why the 32GB microSDHC card I bought says on the packaging:

1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes

that's a gigabit, isnt it?

on the .de link, it works like google maps:

  • you can zoom in and out with just the mouse wheel (doesnt work with control) and
  • it will zoom into wherever the mouse pointer is

Makes it easier to find the interesting bits without killing your wrist with all that click and drag :)

http://xkcd-map.rent-a-geek.de/

That would definitely be a godsend -- as the clicking is killing me (arthritis) -- but is this a FF only thing?? The lower map frame doesn't show up for me in IE.

weird - it's totally different in IE.
In FF, it just shows the whole image with a +/- button to zoom (and as said above works like google maps).

The actual comic link (http://xkcd.com/1110/) shows here in IE8 but click and drag keeps dragging, even when you let the mouse button up - which means it goes over and back, and over and back, and...

Gotta tell you - I'm getting the same behavior in Firefox on my computer. If I use the scroll wheel on my mouse within most posts nothing happens; I have to keep moving my mouse around to get it to scroll

that's been reported in the Firefox 15 thread - are you using FF 15?
I'vd experienced it too - but only since going up to # 15. (Other sites have also been problematic since upgrading.)

Just in case people think they need ancient Greek:

How you can help
The beauty part is that you don't even have to know Greek to help out. The online interface asks only that you compare the letters on each fragment with the shapes displayed on a keyboard. Lintott told me that the current plan calls for each fragment to be checked five times or so, to take advantage of the wisdom of crowds. Think of it as a variant of the "Captcha" type-in-the-phrase system that's used to block spammers.

The interface looks impressive

Yeah, look at the (well deserved) fuss over Roboform cause they've limited export capability.
I'd probably prefer to have as much as possible locally myself but that's got nothing to do with the Linux desktop anyways ;-)
