Screenshot Captor / Re: This program should be avoided like the plague!
« Last post by tomos on October 04, 2012, 03:28 AM »
I remember being freaked myself when this was introduced (where are all my screenshots gone!). My file manager can show contents of all subfolders in one view so it was not such a problem to restore them.
In the end I opted for an 'older' folder for each year.

No idea what kind of work it would be: but I wonder could it be implemented on install, (or first start up after install) with some sort of 'wizard' -
please chose these settings a, b or c, notifying the user what will happen etc etc.

There's is the cleansing of a good scream or yell.  But just because it is, doesn't absolve you of responsibility if you direct it at someone else.  I think that's what 40 was objecting to... and I find myself agreeing.

That's an excellent distinction. Venting anger/frustration usually isn't productive when targeted at people. Well, unless the person can shrug it off and address the real issue, which is rare.

mouser has it

Hey, if I woke up and thought all my pictures were gone I'd be pretty mad too.. I'm sympathetic to people who occasionally come on here to curse me out because I do plenty of cursing and screaming at software myself..

For the record -
this seems to be more or less a repeat of this thread:

There may well have been major advances since then, but imo it's worth looking there so it doesnt all get repeated ;-)

Yay, it's working :D  thanks!

Sorry about that FScript2 business - the info about FSubScript on the forum is very confusing.

In the end I got it from CZB here:
https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=17153.0

I discovered there is a more recent Fscript.dll so I replaced that in the FSubScript folder with this one:
http://e.craft.free....r/farr/FScript/1.20/
i.e. the latest version from this page:

you might be aware of katmouse -
I used use it in XP to scroll windows that dont have focus. I *think* it also *might* have had an option to keep window on top (I know I had that option on xp but not sure how).
I'd recommend Katmouse anyways ;) :)

For what purpose do you want the Window to get focus? Mouse-wheel scrolling ?

In terms of everyday use, it's definitely a lot worse than previous versions (here).
I've disabled a few extensions and plugins and it's still acting up - to be completely fair to it I should try it with no add-ons.

(Firefox without Session Manager and Tab Mix Plus though, would leave me no particular reason to be still with firefox...)

hi wjamoe, no joy yet...

you need to install fsubscript in the plugin folder first

I tried installing FScript2 (seems to be the most recent), and got this message:
---------------------------
Impossible to create in Plugins/FScript2/proxy.
---------------------------

Maybe it needs to be not in the default programme folder in Win7?
Again I'm veering away from the gmail plugin -
if you think this needs to be followed up in another thread, let me know (thanks for your help!)

2) that should not happen, maybe because of the override string (conflict with yahoomail)
the override string yhm should not be there, please clear that field

this change (removing yhm) isnt saved either - maybe it's a FARR (Plugins Manager) problem?

EDIT/ FARR version is 2.200.01

I tried this out yesterday myself, and couldn't get it to work either:

Here's the plugin manager, gmail plugin is selected and advanced options opened.

Screenshot - 2012-09-30 , 15_54_22.png

Possibly relevant:
1) should there be advanced options?
2) the tickbox beside the plugin is unticked when I open the manager. I ticked it - but it was unticked again next time I opened the manager.
3) does it not somehow need to get my gmail details?

I tried relaoding plugins and restarting FARR with no change.

I've settled on the following PDF reading solution after I got tired of Adobe Reader's increasing instability and getting caught out by some malware in a PDF that my "AV" software didn't catch:

  - STDU Reader (free for personal use) as a stand-alone, tabbed reader
  - Sumatra PDF for the browser plug-in

It seems neither of these bits of software engage in deceptive marketing practices, and neither of them support Javascript execution in the PDF (AFAIK), so I figure they should be pretty resistant to PDF-bourne malware.

I'm not sure if they're lacking in features that people might want, but they let me open and read PDF files, and that's pretty much all I need from a PDF reader.

Well, yeah, they are lacking in a lot of features.  I'd say that someone trying to use a program like Nuance pdf reader is trying to do more than "view" pdf's, which is basically all that the free ones provide.

I was kind of wondering why you were mentioning bluebeam earlier - I presumed Nuance Reader was just that - a reader. But I see it does do a lot more...

Take a look at The Straight Dope for an example of a Web site that does some of what has been mentioned.

Didn't think of that - it's very informative, entertaining, (and the main man can be very, eh, judgemental at times). I'd say roughly the same about the very active associated forums.

I actually mean that as a fairly positive review ;-)

However, the average human does NOT poop two pounds a day!

if I think of two pounds of butter, it does seem like a lot :)
Mind you I've never weighed....

Now a 26 foot OTOH, that's impressive!

there's a South Park episode about that (there would be, wouldn't there!) -oh no, wait- that was about the heaviest :D

And keeping on topic ;) I couldnt help thinking about this line from this song (youtube)

« Last post by tomos on September 29, 2012, 02:52 AM »
I wanted to burn a DVD from an MP4 file
I tried using Ashampoo Burn (using the first option in Renegade's screenshot above) without success.

Via this thread What is best program to create a DVD from any video file? I just tried DVD Flick -
is easy to use, it seemed to work (I dont have tv/dvd player so cannot test it myself). There was at least one other recommendation on that thread for ease of use, but I cant remember the name now.

WHY is our forum now again saying "Your session timed out..."???!!!

dunno - I've had some trouble connecting today. Wasn't sure if it was just my connection or what.

did I do anything wrong in the way I asked ? :/
no,
it's very clearly laid out!
Hopefully the bump will help get a response.

Selector[/url] first seemed close to that, but still, somehow lacks some things for my needs.
-ConstanceJill (August 23, 2012, 02:27 PM)

might be an idea to ask MilesAhead in that thread if he'd consider adding additional functionality to Selector.
