>> Or, change to the "United States - international" map, and press altgr+shift+4.

this sounds a good solution, is it a setting in Windows 8.1?
and what you mean by altgr?

General Software Discussion / bibliographical references
« Last post by kalos on April 02, 2015, 06:55 AM »
hello!

I want to insert some references in a MS Word document.

I want to go to the end of a sentence, enter a hyperlink [1], then go at the end of the document and type the whole title of the reference, ie, 1) Book blah, Author blah, 2010.

But can I do that faster?

is there any better way? to insert reference links and then type in a list at the end, of the references?

thanks!

Hello!

Is it possible to view the column margins and drag them to edit them?

because I want to make two texts and I cannot make them appear good

the first text has its last line in the second column and the second text is one newline below

thanks!

General Software Discussion / Re: [IDEA] text recognition
« Last post by kalos on April 01, 2015, 05:32 AM »
well, I don't think of it as a MS Word's tool

because it should work independently, it should sit in the RAM and be triggered instantaneously, even we don't deal with text, as for example it should be able to capture text from a photo, etc

EDIT: sorry if you just mentioned it as example, and it's not relevant to this request

General Software Discussion / [IDEA] text recognition
« Last post by kalos on April 01, 2015, 03:00 AM »
hello!

there is often needed to translate, or explain, a word or text or even to see some associated text with a specific term (eg. see the list of specs for a specific part number)

to do this, we can create and maintain a database, in a simple text file, or csv or xls, that will match each term with an explanatory text or even weblinks or links to local files

but instead of copying the term, opening the database file, searching for it, etc, it would be nice to have this in a popup easily accessible

but often the term is not in an editable text, but it is displayed inside another GUI that it's not copiable

that's why, it would be nice to have a program that we will select the part of the screen that displays the term we want to look up, and the program will OCR it and then match it in the database and display the associated text in a popup!

that is easily be done I think and it would be nice!

thanks!

General Software Discussion / create a map
« Last post by kalos on March 31, 2015, 09:37 AM »
hello

I need a simple global map with the names of the countries on it

but I want to enter a list of locations (in the format: city, country) and to automatically put points in the map and a balloon-like that points to the point and displays the city, country info

is this possible?

thanks!

« Last post by kalos on March 30, 2015, 08:52 AM »
hello

do you know any website, or maybe create one! that will be better than textmechanic?

it has really useful tools, but it doesn't cover all the possible situations

for example, it doesn't have a function to convert a list of object1, object2, object3, into a vertical list, etc

I would also like to be able to create all the possible combinations between 2 or 3 lists of strings

etc

any idea?

thanks!

sorry, in short, will the links in the index file I emailed, work? ie. download the actual files?
let aside security and that I would email the link and not the file or anything else

also, we could take advantage of excels ability to 'refresh', ie re-connect to a web location and update real time its data

so I edit the html file to create the appropriate links (without the need of excel, I just type the html code, or unless there is an idiot proof method so that people who don't know can use it) and then all I have to do is to open the excel file (from the same web folder) and it will display the right links!

that would be interesting too

BUT

I won't be able to have an excel file in my local machine and have the links in it automatically updated

I think the REAL SOLUTION is to write the code that will search in the web server and find the correct filename match and update the link, am I right? totally portable and totally robust
