Yes, have heard of SpywareTerminator but have not read many favorable comments with regards to ClamAV.

AVG is cutting out of Win98

After a second look at NOD32, i did notice that the Business Edition supports Win98.
Hope they continue to do so. Not everyone needs or feels the need to upgrade their PC's.

Boring post but i have to ask, are there any AV programs that still work with Win98?

I'd like to jump to NOD32 but it doesn't work on that platform.

Yabut!

FF3 has a little star at the right end to indicate if it's in your folder and you can modify the bookmark directly via that star.

Also, FF3 has an icon at the left side that offers you website info (if made available).

Opera doesn't do this (yet!).

With all due respect for Opera fans, the new FF3 ahsomethingamigger brings bookmarking to a whole new age.
I have around 1,000 bookmarks and i find this new url box enhancement along with Foxmarks backup service to be an excellent solution to an essential part of surfing.

Another complimentary service is the ever improving Evernote for note taking. Fans must like the fact that they can save a whole webpage in FF with just one click.

I like Opera too but can't make it default for the same reasons as you.

Also, the new "awesome bar" (ugh!) in FF3 makes the url box much more complete than Opera's.
That is a pretty good reason in itself!

Security issues aside, you could also purchase an external drive enclosure and install you old drive in it. Then you'd have a nice backup drive to use. I'd tell them "nice try guys" and ask for your old drive back. ;)

Now that's an interesting one! I say!
Thanks a bunch 40hz!   :)

PlainOldFavorites has the same exact design as in IE.  I don't know about keyboard shortcuts as I have never used such functionality.  Sorry.

Jojo,

I believe IE7PRO and Maxthon (freeware) have this kind of option.
You simply assign a shortcut to your link and type it in the url address box.
Say you bookmarked www.google.com
You can assign any letter in the keyword section of your Firefox bookmarked page so, say you assign the letter "g" then all you have to do is type "g" in your url box, hit enter and you're taken over to www.google.com Neat hé? It can be really handy for extra long url addresses.

Thanks guys, your input is much appreciated!

Indeed, i was thinking about that. What if my new drive goes caput? At least i would have an old one to work with.
Will try to get the old one back.

Living Room / Security issue with old hard disk
« Last post by dantheman on July 13, 2008, 07:18 AM »
Hi,

Excuse me but I didn't quite know how to formulate the title.

They've recently setup a new hard disk in my notebook (gone from 40G to 80G) and i had just installed XPHome (with no data) on the ol' 40. After they finished the work, they failed to give me back my disk and i forgot to ask them for it.
I'm out of town and was wondering if it was worth asking it back?
I now realize that they also made a few bucks on it (by keeping it) but i can live with that.

jojo,

I liked your comments about link checking.
Does IE favs contain keyword shortcuts? That's what i like about FF! You can add always add a keyword say "dcf" for the forum here and when using OpenBook extension you get that perfect partner to manage your bookmarks with ease.
Foxmarks is great to sync your bookmarks online and they have an alpha testing program now to sync with IE and I'm sure it will be out of alpha stage soon.

Dats my 2 cents for today!   :P

Living Room / Re: Opera 9.5

dan: had you previously saved the password?

Good point!
It's a problem when you dab with more than one browser.
I did however have a problem with my.opera.com not keeping my p.w. in the last builds.
Had to login every time. Seems to be okay now.

Did a quick restart just to make sure Opera kept my DCF p.w. & login and it's okay too.

Now if Opera can only fix the panel icons position.
It's a bug that has been reported three builds ago.

I just installed it over previous build.
Can login no problem but isn't the wand supposed to remember the p.w. for me?

K-Meleon is good if you still have to run Win98.
Firefox3 no longer supports it.

On my XP Home SP2, Opera 9.5 has shown to be quicker than Firefox3 at startup and page rendering.

Lashiec is sheek!

Do you have a weblog with software reviews?
Opera sure is fast! In between Firefox3RC3 i'm having a tough time seeing which one is faster.
Is it possible to tweak a notebook hooked up to a network which has a determined speed?
Anyway, Opera feels like it has the edge with regards to speed on the web (for now).
The search capabilities in both browsers is just marvellous!

I agree with felixproductions, sync tool needs some improvement.
It's been a few times now that i've re-installed Opera browser and every time i get a bunch of duplicates that should not be there as i had deleted them.

The notes sync seems to be holding good though.

9.5's new theme is too dark.
They should have left the default theme in, at least as an option.

The revamped panel has problems of its' own that are still yet to be resolved.
Two "x" to close it and only one works.
The panel icons are no longer in "justified" position so they look bulky and ackward (especially the new theme!).   :o

This is probably redundant too, but when you save an image, Snapshot's interface is always in the way.

(It would be useful if there were options to directly upload snapshots to online services like ImageShack etc.)

Hope you're not too overstressed today Mouser!

That's my 2 cents for the day!

Nosh, Laschiec,

Do appreciate your generous help and will take a more detailed look at it after this weekend to see how i can get the upgraded drivers hooked up properly. You heard of "Radar Sync"? Apparently Chris Pirillo has recommended it and it really does find updates for drivers. But the installation instructions are another story...

Thanks for dropping bye Laschiec!
I somehow managed to finally remove upgraded Nvidia drive and re-installed original one.
Everything is okay but the sound was pretty nifty on the upgrade.
Wish i could have kept it. :(

Hope someone will have a solution to this problem.

I just upgraded Nvidia driver and the sound is now coming out of the notebook as well as the earphones.
Usually when earphones are on the sounds are supposed to cut off from the notebook right?

Steeladept,

According one of the quoted Opera posts, it probably depends on which version you're using,
"The CBC's comments work with Opera beta 9981. They don't work with the later 10005 or 10014 builds. Win 98SE."

I've been using the last two.
9.5 is supposed to be coming out soon, we'll see how that one fares.
575
Yes, i had no problems with your first link either steeladept.

I did and still do have problems visiting www.cbc.ca
Some script is giving it a hassle.

Update:
Did a search at Opera's forum and disabled javascript. Seems to be doing fine now.
