Finished Programs / Re: Frameless.exe
« Last post by anandcoral on November 26, 2014, 01:42 AM »
Hi bandit012345,

I do not know what exactly you want, but you can display a frameless png/gif with transparency on desktop using my freeware app Overlap Wallpaper https://sites.google...te/overlapwallpaper/ , no animation though.

See if it fits the bill.

Living Room / Google Glass dead, already ?
« Last post by anandcoral on November 19, 2014, 06:34 AM »
I read the reuters and other news on it, http://www.computerw...glass-isnt-dead.html

Well I will be very sad if it happens. I was waiting for 'glass' to be pocket friendly, like Android phones now.

People may have other vision for the glass, but I had my own plans.

Since I am a programmer, I was planning to change the view I get of my surrounding as per my preferences. I live in a busy city where dust and rush is way of life. So,

1. When I am at home, my wife looks always 'smiling' to me. Well it is not much work for Photoshop to do it on the fly on the glass. The voice may be threatening, but we can ignore it.

2. My room, looks all 'clean-up'. In fact I should see myself using my laptop near a water fall in Japan. On a beach in Spain will also do.

3. When I go to work, my transport bus should be swanky clean and all the people around me should look smiling and beautiful.

4. Well the list is endless, with my side walk all greens etc.

Please Google, make glass affordable, and leave rest to us programmers.

Anand

Post New Requests Here / Re: Power Cord Falling Out
« Last post by anandcoral on October 31, 2014, 11:16 AM »
After I got my first laptop with Win 8, I was finding it problematic to keep tab of the battery status from the tray bar battery, all in white. It did not change color to indicate full or low battery.

A search brought to Battery Delay. Well now I get message every 10th % status and I am happy with it.

WOW! People have already started standing on two sides for this 'driverless cars'.

Well this reminds me when Apple first announced 'IPad' technology. People will be people and corporates will make money.

Well I am more concern about 'programer-less NANY'. GOD save me, if it happens.

I have been using it for a long time. It has helped me a lot in transferring text to my mobile (Nokia 5230, non IOS or Android), via QR reader.

I transfer big text of SMS (festival, birthday etc. wishes) from searched sites, url of a site to check in mobile browser etc. I found it much master to type my required text in the QR box and then QR read it in my mobile.

Really a time saver.

N.A.N.Y. 2015 / Re: NANY Q&A about what software can be submitted
« Last post by anandcoral on October 09, 2014, 04:07 AM »
Yes that is the irony.

I, myself think of NANY from January but do not start coding till October / November, in fear I may release it and it may become invalid for NANY.

It is true NANY should be for new apps, in fact most forums and websites gives special mention to NANY. But we should also make another, like mouser suggested "See Also", to add those released in that year.

This way programmer like me, may start earlier and save some of their hairs. But they must make one 'unpublished' app at the end of the year.

Well those are my points, others may have better suggestions.

Anand

As an idea, I use http://www.resoph.com/ ResophNotes, with http://simplenote.com/ Simplenote integration. I save files in txt format, so that I can have my data back, even if any one of the above does not work, for some reason.

It has good search and tagging options.

May be some program running in tray is doing it.

Try safe mode and check.

Try closing programs in tray one by one and check. Also check in task manager for any non-standard program.

I like the idea of a special 10th Anniversary Mug.

Perhaps it could feature a drawing of Cody with a long beard and walking with a cane, showing his age.  ;D

Hello !

Cody is just 10 years old. What is he carrying a cane for ?

Hi peter.s

I am curious about the points you mention,
1. BC is unable to treat new lines as "no change"[/li]
2. BC is unable to "detect" changes in paragraph order.[/li]
I am a developer and I can develop a text file compare program. I just can not get the idea what logic I should do to satisfy the point.1

If I treat \n as null, say then whole text file will become one line !

For point.2, how far should I read to get that para order has changed.

Well user requirement do vary and we programmer try to satisfy them, that's why they pay us, but we all programmer are tied by the limitation of the programming logic.

Here I do not think BC has failed. Please point me the program which does it, I will like to check it.

Anand

Got it.

FileNote http://download.cnet...2094_4-10019651.html

Excerpt from the site:
It's supposed to give users a way to add notes to their files, but in reality this application is just a quick way to create a text file of the same name. File Note is added as a new context menu option. When you select it, it automatically creates a Notepad file named the same as the selected file.

To be fair, the operation was speedy and effective, and the newly created text file was conveniently saved in the same location as the source file. However, because the note isn't integrated with the file itself, you'll have to take an extra step if you want to share your notes when you send the file to others.

Thought living on the 30th floor was very private and I could do 'every cool things' on the open terrace.

Hi Contro,

No DBU8 will not do what you are expecting, i.e. auto index all fields of all database.

It will,
1. Run in Win64 bit
2. Open DBF files
3. Allow index on one or combination of fields
4. Allow search on the indexed field values.
5. Allow locate value in any given field.

In short it will help you to get information from a DBF file in Win64 bit, but manually.

This I made to help for our in house staff working with our application Ace9 DBF and NTX files, in a Win64 bit environment. Since there is no such utility to handle DBF NTX files in Win64 bit.

To accomplish what you are looking for, one has to make an application for it accordingly.

Though it is a routine job for me, I am afraid, I can not do it as of now.

Anand

Hi Contro,

Sorry, looks like main website do not still have DBU8 link as this app has some errors still. Normal add/edit/index/search etc. works OK. Relation, setting etc. causing error which I did not get time to fix yet.

DBU8 download link
https://sites.google.../dbu8-for-win-64-bit

Try it and revert to me.

Reindexing in the background software for databases

I have DBF files to organize.
I would like an application to reindex continually in the background even when these databases are in use.
Sort by all fields to be able to find everything. Even in the memo fields (notes).

Best Regards

 :-*

Hi Contro,

I use DBF files as database for my applications. I started with dBASEII and reached Xbase++ now.

A dbf file can be indexed by a foxpro/clipper application even if opened in shared mode, but is not advisable. One should have exclusive lock on the dbf file before creating idx/ntx.

Memo field values are stored in fpt/dbt files which can not be indexed.

For searching a dbf file you can use locate command of foxpro/clipper program, without any index.

I have made DBU8 utility based on DBU of Clipper, for Win 64 bit. It uses Xbase++ dlls, which are available with the demo version of our accounting program Ace9. DBU8 can be used to open a DBF/DBT file and create index NTX files. Search and Locate can be performed.
I made this utility for our in house staff as we have to view and manipulate data of our application.

You can rename a dbf file as xls and Excel will open it. In excel you can filter and search normally. A dbt file can not be opened in excel.

In case you need any further information, please tell me.

Regards,

Anand
