General Software Discussion / Re: print listing of music titles
« Last post by techidave on July 12, 2010, 05:36 AM »
as far as I can tell it is done, I won't have a chance to play with it much for a couple of days.  So unless a bug is found, it is done.

in the mean time I shall try to readup on tags also.

I am guess that the 01,02 is part of the file name.  could the sort be set to exclude the numbers?

shorten it to show only the folders under or after the My Music folder and not the c:\docs and settings\user\my documents.

or can the track number be located to its own column to the left of the filename column?

it looks great!

Wow Skwire.  That was quick.  The program scans fast too.

When I click on the filename column, it sorts by 01 xxx, 02 xxx, etc., instead of the name itself?

The double click works too!

Do we have the option to shorten the path file name?

I was thinking either a view or print.  but now that you mention it to double click a listing and have it play the selection would be a nice feature.

the complete path wouldn't really be necessary but if that is the only way then thats that.   :P

The reason for this request is this.  the church laptop as 15 or 20 folders that I have copied cds to.  Since we sometimes sing songs from these cs, I need a way to find them quickly.  So hence the request for something to scan a certain directory reporting the names of the songs, title or whatever.  sometimes they will have Track 01, Track 02, etc.  And sometimes they will be in sub folders like My Music\american ballad\american ballad\homeontherange.wma

by song titles I mean whatever the file name is and the path would be the folder path.

like this:

a song could be called "homeontherange.wma" (or mp3 it doesn't matter.  it is in a folder like c:\user\documents and settings\my documents\my music\american ballads\homeontherange.wma

I am looking for something that scans the my music folder for all song titles or filenames and then reports in a alphabetical listing by song title or file name and then in another column it would report the folder it is stored in like american ballads.

I hope this clarifies your question.

I thought this had been mentioned before on DC but couldn't find anything by searching today.

i have copied quite a few cds to my hard drive.  they are all located in folders under My Music (XP) usually under another folder with the cds name.

I am looking for something that would scan the My Music folder for the song titles and then list them along with the path of the title.

Does anyone know of a software that already exists for this or maybe a coding snack to fit the bill?

Actually, you don't even need an iphone.  I have a remote control that will advance my slides and can do it from anywhere in the room.

We only have 2 teenagers in our church, graduated 2 in May so I cannot count on them.  But your right about teenagers figuring stuff out way faster than most adults.

I belive mediashout was around $500 which is quite a bit for us.

I went with PowerWorship because I thought some of the less geeky people JUST might be able to figure it out easier than one of the other ones.  But it does work for us and that is fine with me.

I have looked at MediaShout and actually d/l'd the demo.  It's not real user friendly and for a small church like ours, with only a few people that actually know something about computers it was too dificult.

your right that is a real meal deal but... for our case it wasn't the best deal in town.   ;D

I am trying to figure out whether to run Joomla on XP Pro or Windows Server 2003 but cannot find any specs on the joomla site or via google to tell me how much horsepower of a machine I would need.

does anyone have any ideas?

Don't know how portable in practice it is, but Crystal Disk Info allows to unzipped and run from a directory.

It looks like it'll do what you want as long as you don't use the "Startup" or "Event Log" features.

Oh, and it's freeware.  :)

Right now, this one is in the lead.  It gives all other S.M.A.R.T. info that could be useful.  it also gave the buffer size but not the rotational speed.

I will keep looking

Drive Manager @ http://www.alexnolan...oftware/driveman.htm (Download the .zip package for the portable version of Drive Manager)

Nice find, Phil.  this one looks familar but tried it anyway.  It gives serial number but not the model number.

It gives a little more info than my original post but otherwise not real bad.

Thanks but not quite what I am looking for.  I am aware of SIW, Belarc Advisor and others but just wanted something to give only hard drive info and nothing else.

I was wanting something to give me the info with out opening the box or taking the drive out.  I know you can go into device manager but it is a few too many steps for my liking.

I was looking for something that was easy and quick and would work on all machines.  I work on quite a few machines and while desktops are usually easy to open up, some laptops can really try your patience in getting the hd out.

I am looking for a small but portable application that will display the Hard drive manufacturer, model number, serial number and preferably the rotation speed and buffer size.

I checked on google but didn't find anything.

Any ideas?  I wonder if this would be a good idea for a coding snack?

Living Room / Re: How to Sell Linux to Schools
« Last post by techidave on June 01, 2010, 10:55 AM »
I'll jump in on this one as I work at a school in the USA.  I don't think Linux will become very wide spread very fast do to the testing requirements.  In our state (Kansas), our state assessment software is not made for Linux yet.  Some of our other required software isn't even compatible with the Mac OS yet.

maybe in time it will as it would save a bundle of money.

not sure where the slide show should go but here is a 2 slide song.  The only thing I changed from the default was the background, font size and font color.   As you can see it puts the song title and author on the first slide and on the last slide is the copyright info and CCLI license number (intentionally left off).

I don't know if uploading the slides as a zip file was the best way to do this or not but here you go.  If there is a better way please let me know.
