The early release is a lie!

EDIT: Also, GlaDOS was a homicidal megalomaniacal robot AI. Why would anyone want to reboot her? People are crazy and/or stupid.

This is why I almost always donate to charities where 100% of the money goes to the cause, and all work is done by unpaid volunteers.

Yeah I seem to recall those are colorized or color enhanced electron microscope images. Very cool though. Ah yes, here we go:

Lots more weirdos there!

And a bonus from the Boston Globe photo blog: http://www.boston.co...the_micro_world.html

- Oshyan

Whoa! Ewww! Intriguing! Nasty! Amazing! Gross! Disgusting! Neato! Yeck! Interesting!

etc.

Thanks for finding the source!

EDIT:

Wow, that is so amazing to me! You've got a compound eye made up of thousands of hexagonal eyes as seen here:

m13_noctuidae.jpg

And even though each of those hexagonal eyes look like a single solid object, they're each made up of thousands of even smaller cells.

(These are from the Boston Globe article.)

Thanks, guys.  I don't know what the hell happened there.  Obviously, you're going to have to update manually for this version.

Website | Installer | Portable
v1.0.5 build 86 - 2011-04-08
! Fixed an issue with the updater.  (Thanks, Deozaan & Winkie)

Thanks for fixing that! I've encountered another update related issue:

I know I downloaded the Portable version, but the DcUpdate file links to download the exe which runs the installer? Shouldn't it download and unpack the zip file over the current files?

General Software Discussion / Re: ARS reviews Linux Gnome 3.0
« Last post by Deozaan on April 14, 2011, 04:04 AM »
The article makes it sound as though GNOME 3.0 is super stable and ready to go, so it makes me wonder if Ubuntu will be using it in their eminent Ubuntu 11.4 release..

It will likely be in their repositories. But last I heard, Shuttleworth & Co, are totally committed to using Unity as the default desktop starting with release 11.4, aka Natty Numnutz Narwhal.

Most people outside Canonical seem to think this is a 'very bad' idea.

Unity looks very much like GNOME 3.0 to me. At least from screenshots and videos alone, they seem very similar to me.

Marijuana causes global warming, uses 1% of U.S. electricity

People growing marijuana indoors use 1 percent of the U.S. electricity supply, and they create 17 million metric tons of carbon dioxide every year (not counting the smoke exhaled) according to a report by Evan Mills, an energy analyst at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

After medical pot use was made legal in California in 1996, Mills says, per-person residential electricity use in Humboldt County jumped 50 percent compared to other parts of the state.

What are hippies going to do now? They either have to stop the marijuana habit or admit they really don't care about global warming.

Dunno if the image is real, but living stuff viewed in electron microscopes do tend to look absolutely foul.

As if maggots don't already look foul enough already!

This is more disturbing than the video
Supposedly this is an electron microscope image of a maggot.

Anyone know if that image is real?

I've also been curious about this in Chrome. The Tabs never overlap the space taken up by the Min/Max/Close buttons anyway, so why aren't they all at the same level?

Hey - wonder if my daughters will have a problem with me playing this video for my granddaughters? Ya think??   :P

That video is so un-scary and not-graphic that you could probably fool your granddaughters (depending on their age) into thinking the mice are just cleaning the bird's feathers or something benign like that.

Just post photo or video them here  :)

Well, to be honest, I don't play with them that often, and I don't make anything that impressive. I'm just easily impressed by my own work. :-[

Yeah! Then WE can give you that look and ask you "How old are you?"   :P :P

Then I'll tell you what I tell her:

It says "Fun for adults!" right on the package, dangit! >:(

Not sure, but that person definitely has the icon text way too small.

This could be why (emphasis added):

As I have previously stated, the general configurability of the desktop has been broadly crippled. You can't change your widget or window manager theme, set a screensaver, or adjust any of the interface colors. Shockingly, even font configuration appears to have been removed. I couldn't find a way to change the default interface font sizes in GNOME 3.0.

Though if you look at the screenshots at full resolution, the font size seems big enough to me.

The article makes it sound as though GNOME 3.0 is super stable and ready to go, so it makes me wonder if Ubuntu will be using it in their eminent Ubuntu 11.4 release...

I really like Windows 7. But my computer is starting to feel really old lately. I probably won't be upgrading to Windows 8 until I get a new PC.

Is there already an announced ETA for when Win8 will be released?

Do I really need to get a new router for this? I just bought one last year. :(

Hmmm... I wonder if that means I'd also (or instead) need to get a new Cable modem. I also just bought that last year. . . >:(

Besides, it's charity, too.

But oddly, from WP:

Mealworms are typically used as a food source for reptile, fish, and avian pets. They are also provided to wild birds in bird feeders, particularly during the nesting season, when birds are raising their young and appreciate a ready food supply. Mealworms are high in protein, which makes them especially useful as a food source. They are also commonly used for fishing bait.

Exactly. That's why my brother fed mealworms to the lizard. I'm sure that's what the pet shop recommended.

But I'm glad I *didn't* see mice crawling in and out of the innards of a still-living animal at the same time. :P

I saw something like that in person when I was a young child. My older brother had a small pet lizard of some sort and fed it mealwormsw. Well, apparently the lizard ate them whole, without chewing or otherwise killing them. They ate their way out from the inside of the lizard.
