If you're mangling any metaphors, maybe switch "foot" to "face". :D

Nah, they outsourced that. They hired someone to be shot in the face when something bad goes wrong.  :P

;D

... just had to show my appreciation of that

General Software Discussion / Re: Can 'Captor' go LITE like "Greenshot"!?
« Last post by tomos on November 05, 2012, 10:54 AM »
The enormous capability of "Greenshot" (considering its incredibly small download size ) have always amazed me, & for the same reason its utility/usage appears the 'Most affable' in terms of my daily dealings with Consumers & theirs respective follow-ups!

For those of us that dont know Greenshot can you compare it to Screenshot Captor?
or,
if you're not that familiar with SC, maybe tell us what you especially like with Greenshot.
Thanks

General Software Discussion / Re: mac icons
« Last post by tomos on November 05, 2012, 09:19 AM »
I wonder is there a way to create such nice icons and stuff using Mac? or is it just a coincidence

You cant make icons any better on a mac.

The Mac platform was always focused on design (always? - for a long time anways). Design work was traditionally done on a mac, but these days it doesnt make any difference which you use. But because of tradition, most graphic designers still use macs.
The whole apple/mac main-thing is design - in terms of *looking* good anyway.

I thought it might be worth giving more info about this - in case you dont get anything better:

FWIW I'm currently using FileHamster, but that doesnt do exactly what you want either.

FileHamster ('Advanced' version) will backup any changes made to files within a watched folder, with the ability to comment on the backup.
You can then generate a report for export to text file, or 'to spreadsheet' (which opens automatically in my default programme).
The report will list:

  • all backups made (or made within a period of time)
  • date/time
  • filesize
  • comments

Obviously new files will be included, but it doesnt mark them as new.
You can see within FileHamster if a file has been deleted - but not that easily and info not included in the report.

More info about using FH in a thread I started here Using FileHamster to keep track of status of a job. It's an app that could be developed hugely but they dont seem interested in new ideas - it's more or less just kept at maintenance level.

Coding Snacks / Re: Single click focus, double click bring to front
« Last post by tomos on November 04, 2012, 10:42 AM »
Is there a technical reason as to why this is difficult?

Yes, actually, there is.  What you want, at its most basic, is easy to code.  What I mean is that it's fairly trivial to make single and double-clicking do what you request.  The hard part is not affecting all the other things that single and double-clicking already do in Window, e.g., selecting files, opening apps, single/double clicking titlebars, etc.  Does that make sense?

Would it be possible if, instead of single and double clicks, you used e.g.
single-click and control click -
or
giving both clicks qualifier keys
?

« Last post by tomos on November 04, 2012, 10:40 AM »
Wizmouse works the same as Katmouse (I think Katmouse can have problems on win7).
I presume the advantage of the original request is that you could e.g. open a file from a window even while it is not on top.

Neither Wizmouse nor Katmouse allow that kind of thing.

I used use ERUNT on XP - but according to the FAQs page, it will only work if uac is off, so I never bothered with it on Win7

I like this song Catgroove by Parov Stelar, and TakeSomeCrime danced really well for it:

And once you've seen that, check out this great wedding dance to the same song:

http://www.youtube.c.../watch?v=0nKfBxjN3DI

It's great. But is that a Goatse reference at ~3:10? :o

1) Really great track, really great dancing :-*
2) Brilliant wedding dance :D
3) Re 3:10 - I think it's more of a show-us-your-bums kind of move

Living Room / Re: Facebook's New Orwellian Censorship

Corporations have none other than whatever "customer agreement" it cares to offer - and which is subject to change without notice.

I know that most customers are pretty mindless, but you still gotta look after them:
They're seriously losing business support with their pay (a fortune) per view tactics. With censorship, they're also now getting bad press.
If they can keep the masses posting, I guess they'll be okay.
For a while ...

I barely ever check in there now myself, (was even considering deleting my account lately, but probably wont bother - for a while anyway).

My main point was that -whether they are considered controversial or not- I dont see why FB should be censoring them.

Debating whether they're controversial or not is kinda besides the point imo :)
(FB obviously finds them controversial enough to censor)

Personally, I'd go for TrueCrypt instead, unless you have some very specific reasons for going with BitLocker.

no I dont - thanks for the recommendation f0dder - makes things simpler ;-)

Living Room / Re: Facebook's New Orwellian Censorship
« Last post by tomos on November 01, 2012, 10:59 AM »
Ach, they're a bit controversial all right -
but that doesn't excuse the censorship...

Combine that with the fact that only 10-20% of your friends/fans actually see what you post - unless you pay exorbitant amounts. They better cop on or they'll just go down the drain.
See especially the dangerousminds link:

http://dangerousmind...want_my_friends_back

http://www.stuff.co....te-posts?cid=dlvr.it

So .. pay $10 a post if you want it to reach more than 20% of the people who should be able to see it?

;D

Living Room / Re: Hurricane Sandy Discussion Thread
« Last post by tomos on November 01, 2012, 06:53 AM »
@Tao -
I think you're missing the important 'as' in that sentence:

"In contrast to Hazel, however, Sandy was not as strong a hurricane."
that equals:
Sandy was not as strong a hurricane as Hazel.
-
Which means that they were both hurricanes - but Hazel was stronger.

Vaguely related query so thought I'd post here:

For Bitlocker to work you need:
> BitLocker requires Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2
Windows 7 system requirements (MS)

I was planning on buying a small laptop and installing 7 Ultimate on it (but havent any particular model in mind yet).

Just wondering could this 'TPM' be a problem or is it standard?

Which is where the notion that copyrights and patents should not be available at all to Fortune 500 companies [..]

I cant really see you accepting the idea of discrimination - I mean if it's allowed one way, it'll be allowed the other. Mind you, saying that, there might be a workaround...
