Calling that "growing" is a bit misleading. But the technology is still pretty neat. :Thmbsup:

Things like that sure look neato but my neck would be killing me after a few minutes on that thing. I got whiplash a number of years back and my neck hasn't been the same since.

FYI for a "Portable" version of XAMPP:

XAMPP isn't in PortableApps.com Format, but it easily integrates with the PortableApps.com Suite by using the XAMPP Launcher 1.4 and installing XAMPP in the root directory of your portable device (as recommended).

Yep. It's fun!

The gameplay is a lot more like an Arcade game than traditional MMO(RPG). It plays like a combination of Guantletw, Zelda: Four Swords Adventuresw, and Final Fantasy Crystal Chroniclesw.

I dunno. I think I'd still love to have 300 dpi on my 26" monitor.

but.. but.. Gabe claims that "Mac is 5 times more stable than windows running games". :o

That could be because there is less diverse Mac hardware supported/available. :-\

So what's the big deal about Samsung using dpi that's still less than what Apple is using? Is it because Apple hasn't yet put the retina display on their iPad?

By the way, I had mixed reactions to the Steal Like An Artist article. I thought some of it was good, and some of it was uninteresting.

"Zombie Lie" is an interesting term I'll have to try to remember so I can use it. :)

How many dpi is the iResolution/eyeResolution or whatever it's called that Apple uses on the iPhone 4?

Developer's Corner / Re: What "Laws" Would You Be Comfortable With?
« Last post by Deozaan on May 12, 2011, 08:25 PM »
I read a really good book recently called The Law by Frederic Bastiat.

It might be a bit off topic, and the book was written in 1848 so it might be a little difficult to figure out how it would apply to some modern concepts such as IP and digital "goods," but I found it to be a very good (and short) read.

The simple fact 90% of the consumers couldn't have cared less

Sorry. I couldn't help myself. :-[

And most people are pretty much 'ok' with Microsoft.

And the ones who aren't have already moved on to the alternatives.

$560 for 240GB?
I can't afford to throw away that kind of money every 200 days or so.

But he's not throwing the money away. There is an advantage to things failing within the warranty period.

Good point. I suppose it's like buy one, get 4 free.

Even still, if I had enough money to buy two of those, I could instead buy a very nice desktop computer.

Living Room / Re: Google Chrome Hacked, Sandbox Escaped
« Last post by Deozaan on May 12, 2011, 07:14 PM »
"We will not help Google in finding the vulnerabilities," said Chaouki Bekrar, Vupen's CEO and head of research, in an email reply to questions. "Nobody knows how we bypassed Google Chrome's sandbox except us and our customers, and any claim is a pure speculation."

Last year, Vupen changed its vulnerability disclosure policies when it announced it would no longer report bugs to vendors -- as do many researchers -- but instead would reveal its work only to paying customers.

Does this mean that Vupen are black hat hackers? Or they're white hat hackers using blackmail?

I need suggestions for an official name for this -- the working title is "VoicePics" but i think it needs a better one.

$560 for 240GB? No wonder he heartily recommends them! He's using a referral link so he makes some commission off of every SSD someone buys due to his articles.

I can't afford to throw away that kind of money every 200 days or so.

I added you to my friends list as well as invited you to the DonationCoder group on Steam.

But I don't own Portal 2 so I won't be able to help you out with multiplayer portal puzzle solving. :-[

I've never heard of Barry Ritholtz before, so maybe this is common knowledge, but he outs himself as "a longstanding member of the [Microsoft] bashers" in the comments in response to a comment that adequately described the thoughts I had while reading that article:

joshmaher Says:
You do realize that you are saying you can’t believe Microsoft didn’t invent every technological advance in the last three decades right? That is like saying why doesn’t Ford invent every advance in automobile manufacturing. You are suggesting that a single company can invent everything and that the free market system that actually provides for the innovation that we love so much is irrelevant. Of course that is right after saying that when they did control all things in the tech space they were also bad. Which is it? Are they bad if they have invented or copied everything in the tech space to the point that they are the only player or are they bad if they are not inventing every little tech advance that happens? They can’t be bad for both reasons.

A little short sighted if you ask me. Sounds more like you are jumping on the MSFT bashing bandwagon to get readership (which I guess worked because I am commenting).

~~~
BR: I have been a longstanding member of the MSFT bashers; this has been kicking around my head for a long time (I wrote it in an hour this AM).
I have actually once watched the Lord of the rings trilogy in a row. That must be close to 10 hours. And loooots of snacks too  :)
It's closer to 12 hours if you have the extended versions.
My brother and I had a tradition every Christmas to watch the LotR movies in the theaters, so the 4th year when they were all released we did the extended cut marathon. :D
Another time a couple years ago my wife and I met a woman approximately our age who was very small and had short curly hair. I later told my wife that this small woman reminded me of a hobbit. My wife didn't know what that was, so I turned on the first movie to show her and we ended up watching the entire trilogy. :-[
Occasionally I'll see one of my message replies in there, but very infrequently. Not sure about *new* thread posts of mine though.
For me it will be either replies to existing threads or new threads I create. It doesn't really matter. Any time I make a post, it's very likely that it will show up on my unread posts list. >:(
