very useful videos -- gives a much better and calmer idea of what this is all about.
thanks for sharing these.

I just have to say that while I like Coe and his videos, he's not a very good player. He often misses some things that are pretty obvious (to me). For instance, he keeps building floors and platforms out of wood or dirt, but he should just use the in game item called "Wooden Platform."

But like I said, I like his videos and his commentary is generally pretty good.

Living Room / Re: So Apple really is a religious thing...
« Last post by Deozaan on May 22, 2011, 03:47 PM »
This explains a lot:
http://www.digitaltr...say-neuroscientists/

Either the article was poorly written (by not explaining the scientific process of the study very well), or (in my opinion) the science is bad.

So a (single, one, individual) self-proclaimed Apple fanatic who claims to think about Apple 24 hours each day looks at some Apple related images and parts of his brain light up. The scientists then compare the images of his brain activity to images of brain activity that religious people had when looking at images of religion. And this proves what exactly?

First of all, I know lots of religious people and I doubt any single one of them would claim to think about their religion 24 hours per day as the Apple fanatic does.

Secondly, how is the image of the brain activity any indicator that this is their "non-logical" parts of their brains? Maybe it's the "image-processing and interpretation" part of the brain. You know, from looking at pictures and images and processing them into some kind of meaning.

Admittedly I don't like Apple very much and I enjoy a good Apple bash here and there (they certainly deserve it!) but I'm not convinced by this article and I see it as a lame excuse to bash Apple by taking a single individual who is at the extreme end of the obsession spectrum and applying that to everyone who likes Apple.

That would be like taking the few people who honestly believed the so called rapture would happen yesterday and saying all Christians are as extreme as that.

It's a straw-man argument and doesn't hold up against even the smallest amount of scrutiny.

I don't know if a demo is planned, but you can probably find some videos on YouTube that will give you an idea of how it plays.

Note: I haven't watched these (yet) but I liked his Minecraft series so I'm planning on watching these soon.

This isn't silly.

Great people have a habit of "reporting in" after completing a day/task. Benjamin Franklin details in his autobiography the method he used at the end of the day to "report" on his daily performance.

Heh. It's a clever way to make the cables less unappealing. But they're still unappealing.

you can buy AI war on impulse and gamersgate as well - less invasive than steam.

You can even buy it directly from Arcen Games by following my link in my last post. And, if you buy it on Impulse or Steam or GamersGate, then you can always just download it directly from Arcen Games as well, and the registration key(s) will unlock the full version.

How are they incompetent with this issue now? Almost all companies use the same email address verification, or a very similar method, for login information....

Normally, the reset link is in the e-mail, or you are sent a verification code in the e-mail that you have to type in to change your password. That way only the person who has access to the e-mail account can reset the password.

What Sony did in this case was require you to just type in your e-mail address and birth date to reset your password. Nothing is sent to you to verify you have access to the e-mail account. And guess what? Whoever stole all the PSN data also has everybody's e-mail addresses and birth dates.

It's astounding how incompetent Sony have revealed themselves to be with this whole ordeal...

Arcen is having a 2 year anniversary sale on the entire AI War Bundle (includes all expansions):

http://arcengames.bl...n-bundle-and-ai.html

It's approx $21 USD for the game and all three expansions. DRM free.

NO DRM

We've been asked if our games contain any significant DRM, and the answer is, emphatically, no. Each game has a simple license key (which turns the trial version into the full version), but that's it. No need to contact our servers during install, no hidden drivers, no encryption, or install limits.

We want to make it easy on our customers, and we've never really felt like DRM works, anyway. If you like our games, please buy them so that we can make more, but we're not about to start treating our real customers like thieves just to thwart the inevitable pirates.

Same here. I stayed up until 9 AM without sleep today playing with Worstje.

Anyone want to go in together on a 4-pack? That would make it $7.50. I've already found two other people so we need one more for the 4-pack.

Dig, fight, explore, build! Nothing is impossible in this action-packed adventure game. The world is your canvas and the ground itself is your paint.

Terraria can possibly be described as a 2D mashup of Metroidw, Castlevaniaw, and Minecraftw, but has influences from many other games.

If the video is too boring for you, the action really picks up at around 3:32.

Terraria should be available on Steam for $10 USD on Monday, May 16th (which is today).

Developer's Corner / Re: AttachMate/Novell Lays Off People - Mono Hit

JavaScriptw

JavaScript very quickly gained widespread success as a client-side scripting language for web pages. As a consequence, Microsoft developed a partially compatible dialect of the language, naming it JScript to avoid trademark issues.

JScriptw

As explained by JavaScript guru Douglas Crockford in his talk entitled The JavaScript Programming Language on YUI Theater, "[Microsoft] did not want to deal with Sun about the trademark issue, and so they called their implementation JScript. A lot of people think that JScript and JavaScript are different but similar languages. That's not the case. They are just different names for the same language, and the reason the names are different was to get around trademark issues."

If I recall correctly, Netscape made JavaScript and kept it proprietary and wouldn't let anybody else use it. So Microsoft reverse engineered it and called it JScript.

Technically JavaScript has never been made available and is still proprietary and the whole internet is just using ECMAScript but calling it JavaScript.

One thing you can count on however. If  Mono begins to take significant business away from Microsoft or otherwise becomes a genuine threat, Redmond will send in their legal team to either arrange license fees - or kill it.

But didn't Microsoft basically do the same thing with JavaScript that Novell is doing with Mono?

I never liked cursive and I never use it except for my signature.

But I hope it's covered enough that students at least know how to read cursive, which can be difficult anyway depending on the writer's penmanship.

Mouser, don't you think that what I'm wanting to do with 'highScore' data from the game I'm developing falls along the lines of what this example accomplishes?  Basically, I could have my game app programmatically use such a form post-action to send its data to an online database, right?

I know that was directed at mouser, but yeah, I do think that's basically what you want.

But you probably also want some sort of verification that it's coming from the game or that the score is legitimate so people don't just type in their own $_POST[189135105313546843]; to give themselves a cheater high score.
