Interesting topic  :)  I have to say though Deathswitch sounds very dangerous!

Yeah, not a password you'd want to forget if you have any big secrets, or pointed last words. Got 30 days in the can for a trumped-up traffic charge ... (oopsy daisy!) ... You just "died"...

But if you can inject code into the webpages then you can reroute login details to another destination, so the extension isn't necessary.

True, but the injecting the extension code would be easier to automate. That and it affords the option of (getting a 2fer) tossing the client into a botnet somewhere.

Walkman (by Sony) ... because sometimes your dumbass need to be run over.

Come on, the guy just standing in the middle of the street was asking for it. :)

Do you mean the guy where the car very very slowly creeps up to him before it hits him? That one I thought was hilarious.

Yepper - Oblivious much?

Living Room / WebCam Advice Needed
« Last post by Stoic Joker on June 08, 2010, 07:57 PM »
Okay, I'm not really a "MultiMedia" kind of guy ... but I'm looking for something with better video/picture quality than my current (MS VX3000) WebCam.

After some digging I've come up with the Logitec C600 but was hoping that one of the more media oriented folks might have a better suggestion regarding quality and/or price point.

Purpose of the Cam is to set the wife up with clear smooth video (via Skype) of 2 year old granddaughter who is out of state (e.g. I'll be needing to buy two of these...).

@sagji - Okay, I'm trying to workout an attack strategy on this DPI issue. I think I may have come up with an angle on it but I have one question. When you are at 2560x1600 with 144DPI does the size 8 font appear to be scaling properly??

I ask because of an old font scaling bugg that caused any size smaller than 9 to be disproportionately tiny. I'm thinking that a similar (calculations mod)  fix may work for your (off) screen position issue. But my hypothesis is dependent on the size 8 font being correctly proportioned when used in your configuration.

Also (side note) is the positioning better or worse when you push the DPI to (i believe the max) 192?

According to a popular version of history...the last guy on earth that claimed to be perfect got crucified for his efforts... :)

Ideas are always welcome.

Apologies if these are inappropriate.

I've never really been good at the whole "what's appropriate" thing - But I probably shouldn't be laughing this hard at work... (I love the demotivational series)

You know, I try to retain a reasoned approach to apple and its practices

And you truly have been doing a fine job of it too (I respect that).

I on the other hand joined the blind (rage) hatred camp about half way through the "I'm a Mac" ad campaign. I hear Apple and I see red ...(which they conveniently are)... I'm just feed-up with their prissy prescient nonsense - and really just wish they would all kindly go to hell. :)

t 4: Nevertheless I still have another proposal for calendar: Is it possible to include separate switches for Month and Year? By switching Month by Month it takes very long e.g. to go forward/reverse several Years.
example:   " < >  June 2010  < >"
I don't know if it's possible to automatically switch year at "Month-Switch" January<>December. [/color]

Um... (I could be missing something here, but...)

Using the Windows Calendar Control arrows are only for last/next month navigations. if you want June 1975 on Win7:
Click year 3 times (the control "zooms" out to decade view)
Click the decade you want (it zooms in to year selection)
Click the year you want (it zooms in to month selection)
Click the month you want (it shows the usual month view)
done.

On XP:
Click year and scroll to year wanted (1975)
Click month and select month wanted.
done.

I'm not sure what I can add to that. (Unless I'm missing part of the question - which has happened before...)

32bit versions of NT did also include 16bit command.com (and a bunch of the other dos tools, although some are 32bit console apps and some are 16bit dos apps) - up to and including XP
 I don't have a NT4 vm handy here at the office, but command.com in Win2k/XP?!? Where? I've seen (and frequently used) Edit.com in 2k & XP - But I ain't never seen a command.com.

Hi,
In case you are looking for some nice and helpful options to include, here are some proposals:
- modify date stamps of files and folders (created / last modified / last access)
Unfortunately that is outside the scope of the project - It's a clock.

I do however have another program that does (exactly) that, which I may consider releasing at a later date.

- copy names and/or path of files/folders to clipboard
Is this possible, anyhow?
I'm looking forward for every new modification
This unfortunately would also be outside the (clock) scope of the project. However if you're using Windows 7, hold the Shift key while right clicking and Copy as Path will do what you're looking for.

The 7.5 download includes a copy of 7.3.
 - crap - fixed.

Also in the first post it says known issues none - but should it not mention my problem with the properties dialog appearing off screen when DPI is set to more than 100% and the taskbar is on the right?
Keyword: rush job. (fixed)

Some more information about it.
My screen is set to 2560x1600 (widescreen)
Where the dialog appears depends on the width of the taskbar - if it is minimum width then the dialog isn't visable, if it is very very wide then some of the dialog appears to the right of the taksbar, if it is set so that 10 notification icons fill one line then the left border and a very small part of the dialog appear under the taksbar.

I'm still kind of circling that one, because I'm not real sure how to attack it (don't give up on me just yet).

A much better approach would be to reintroduce apprenticeships and technical education for the people who actually want to do something with a qualification.

Okay guys, I gotta admit I'm a little ashamed of all of us for this one.

It seems that setting an alarm for X:xx PM resulted in the alarm going off at both X:xx PM & X:xx AM - That's hardly acceptable...and I'm not sure how the hell I missed it (in retrospect). But one of the alarm loop tests (which was set for 6:00 PM) woke me up at 6:00 AM this morning ... Which required a low grade Witch Hunt to crucify the jackass that had woke me up at 6:00 AM on a freaking Sunday... (Which turned out to be me)  :-[ ...Oops.

So... I'll just call this one the Sunday Morning Bugg fix build.

There was this toy store in NYC that had a similar approach to business. You could buy your Legos at Toys-R-Us for less money, or you could get your Legos from this toy store and pay a lot more. They were the same Legos, and people bought them there for the higher price, because of the whole experience the store gave them. They made kids feel like they had just visited a magical world where everything came directly from Santa's workshop, and they made adults feel like kids again. And for that experience, people were willing to shell out the bucks. It really wasn't about the toys.

And that (customer service) is good up to a point. But the flip side of the same coin is more of a pedicure analogy.

The whole point of trimming ones toenails (aesthetics aside...) is to keep them from ripping holes in ones socks. - (e.g. it's strictly a practical matter) - Now one can either simply grab the clippers and be done with the task in short order for free. Or... One can run down to the local ego massaging boutique, and have them done for you for only (*Snicker*) $100 ... This is much the same justification for charging $20 for a friggin hamburger; ambiance.

The point is unfortunately that one just paid $100 to protect a $2 pair of socks. ...Why?

e.g. Apple can polish a turd and their drove of fawning accolades will flock in mass (like lemming) to buy the silly POS. While the rest of the industry is stuck doing things the old fashioned way - Trying to come up with a useful product that people actually need.

Okay, Added Display (ISO) Week Numbers on Calendar Option, Close Calendar on Lose Focus Option, Calendar Dialog now dynamically resizes at runtime if/as needed (toggle Week Numbers to see), and Added Miscellaneous Tab to Properties Dialog to Adjust Above.

So, Let me know what Ya think.

I have in my years met many people with college degrees that were (for all intent and purpose) practically useless (read dumber than a stump) in the real world. However HR types will fall all over themselves to get to these people.

Unfortunately, in todays job market, there is no way to get around the HR department barrier. HR goes through a stack of applicants (with approx half the skill of a basic keyword search) looking for a list of (bulleted) qualifications - Without the slightest understanding of what the qualifications actually are or mean. If the IT position requires a Masters Degree, and the applicant has a Masters Degree (in Lama breeding...) HR will accept the applicant instantly. IF the applicant has 10 of experience in IT and five star references, but no degree ... the applicant will be rejected by HR (instantly).

There is no substitute for a College Degree - Not because it makes you smart (because it doesn't), but because it makes you appealing to the chronically uninformed.

Hi Stoic Joker
Thank you for your mail. T-Clock 2010 Beta is in use. It works great (here XP - tomorrow I will test Windows 7)
No problem to include the week number for Locale "Germany" in Advanced Clock Configuration Options with Format:
ddd, dd/mm/yy hh:nn:ss "KW"Wm
Very good.

Is there, as explained, a possibility to add the week number Wm in first coloumn of the Calendar???
It would be great.
I think, after having read the forum, a lot of people would appreciate this feature.
(Personlly, I need Wm - but probably other people would prefer Ws or Ww)

Thanks and good luck!
Miaz

It appears that the week number is a built-in option of the calendar control. So adding it - or rather the option to toggle it shouldn't be difficult (...wonder if I just Jinxed myself?). The only issue being that in using the built-in option, I have no control over which week number format it uses. Hopefully that is/will be controlled by the regional settings (Mine seems to default to Ws).

Just to be sure we're on the same page (so I don't miss again...), is this what you're looking for?:
