I'm sorry if my first sentence hurted your feelings, Clairvaux; it was meant to be amusing.

Other than that, I think Deozaan was quite right.

Naturally there is a difference between members and Participants, but we seriously try to treat all parties equally well. ALL parties! The owner of "Shareware on Sale" is well known, but does to my knowledge not have any kind of agreement or deal with DonationCoder, other than being a regular Supporting Member. And as such, he deserves common, human courtesy.

Welcome to our forum!

My guess is that Clairvaux expected the worst and then took this for facts.

General Software Discussion / Re: Windows 10 Announced
« Last post by Curt on September 21, 2016, 03:53 PM »
For me, Windows 10 has by far been the operating system that has been the easiest to have. The easiest to install and the easiest to use - the easiest to "live with". I also think it has been easier for both my laptop and for my PC to run Windows 10, rather than Windows 7 (I have never tried Win 8.).

I recommend getblackbird

I can now say that Win 10 by far also has been the easiest to repair! Something went wrong a couple of weeks ago when an update failed big time. I then downloaded the Media Creation Tool from microsoft and took a deep breath and clicked Run. One hour later everything was just fine.

One program had been removed by the installer, and two others needed to reinstall before working properly. But considering that the reinstallation and updating of Windows 10 was so wonderfully easy and that I still have every file and document, I am simply impressed!

Unfortunately, all the MS culprits are back:

Blackbird does not currently support Redstone builds.

Problem solved.

I couldn't get the old procedure to work, so I went looking for an even older solution: Sherlock Holmes' brother, Mycroft Project. Their search box gives many answers, so it can be both difficult and time consumiing to find what you're looking for - but here is a link:

-so I guess it's not me, but Google.
534
For the last couple of years I have been using Google Translate via my right-click context menu in Firefox (mark a word > right-click > Search marked word in Google Translate > word translated into Danish) almost every day. It used to be so well working that I didn't bother to install any of my copies of WebWord or Babylon. Google Translate was fast & easy to use.

But that has changed!  :(

403. That’s an error.

Your client does not have permission to get URL / from this server. (Client IP address: 2.1(xx.xxx.xx)6
)

GoogleERROR-2016-09-17.gif

That’s all we know.
-Google Translate

of course that's not "all we know"! But for the last couple of weeks it sure is all they have told me.

I don't understand it. I am not aware that anything relevant has changed in my Firefox 47. However, they list my proper IP address (without xes), so maybe it has to do with me as a person? I never log in to my Google account. Is that it? have Google upgraded the hard-playing ball?

If I arrive Google Translate any "normal" way, there is no problem.

Any idea?  :tellme:

it is of course a good thing to remove old java leftovers. Use their own uninstaller:

>>https://java.com/en/download/uninstalltool.jsp]Java Uninstall Tool[/url]<<

Should I uninstall older versions of Java?

We highly recommend that you uninstall all older versions of Java from your system.
Keeping old versions of Java on your system presents a serious security risk.
Uninstalling older versions of Java from your system ensures that Java applications will run with the latest security and performance improvements on your system.

How does one tell which type (32 or 64-bit) one has? It's not mentioned in the "About" section.
Check the install location. If it's in "Program Files" then it's 64-bit. If it's in "Program Files (x86)" then it's 32-bit.

- eh, no! On a 32-bits system the %1% is "Program Files", because there is no other system.
543
the missing information:

32-bit Slimjet Web Browser is recommended for both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows. If you want to go 64-bit at the cost of more memory usage, you can get 64-bit Slimjet for Windows.

Slimjet Web Browser for Windows 64-bit Version:
http://www.slimjet.com/en/dlpage_win64.php

64-bit version uses significantly more memory than 32-bit version. It has some stability and performance improvements which are not quite noticable for most people. We do not recommend it for machines with under 8GB memory or nerves sensitive to the memory usage of applications. If your computer has affluent memory and you want to screeze the last bit of performance out of Slimjet, go for it by all means.

OneNote sure has come a long way, compared to my Office 2003; I refused to even have it installed back then.

For the possible sake of gathering relevant informations about Win10-All-in-one-shortcut-bar:

...Godmode folder in Win10
Here is how to create Godmode on Win 10:
Create a new folder and rename it to following:

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Don't forget the period after GodMode, and you can rename the GodMode portion whatever you'd like if you want another name for the folder.

Wow Curt, that is an impressive list of addons . I'll have to give some of them a try. (...) I'm on Firefox 48.0 as my primary browser.

impressive or obsessive, I am not too sure. Useful, is the word, I hope.
I have modified the list; now with the proper Mozilla links. But remember, Firefox version 48 will say some of them are outdated.

@IainB, I am slow, but not late!

@ eleman, tomos and exjoburger (what a name! Did you use to live in Johannesburg?), Thank you for reminding of the ESR version. I am flipping a coin, will do / will not do, right now 47.0.1 will do.

@Shades and CWuestefeld (Post#1,000!!), I am flattered. Just looking at the how-to instructions, made my stomach spin  :-[  Will test some other day...  http://www.ghacks.net/2016/08/14/override-firefox-add-on-signing-requirement/

Thank you for the responses. Due to the addons, I want my local Firefox to stay in the game!

549
For safety's sake I thought I would update my Firefox 47.0.1 to Firefox 48.0. So I did.

After 2x restart I was surprised to realize that a number of favourite addons clearly had stopped working, so I went to see what's wrong with my Nightly Tester Tool who's job it is to "Force Addon Compatibility". Turns out it has been overruled by Firefox, so no compatibility was forced on anything.

At Mozilla's page I was told a story about the "many" addons that are trying to steel my money, identity, etc. Of course such a story is difficult to believe, since I never have met such an addon. New homepage redirection, yes, but never anything dangerous. Maybe we just don't hear about them? But of course, I guess they're out there, just waiting for a chance to enter my PC, so it's better to be safe than sorry.

And because of this I should be thankful for Mozilla now blocking every unsigned addons, I assume...

I do, however, not agree with Mozilla on this. Do you? The unsigned addons that I have are not new in any way. They have been on my computer for many years!! On my PC there is nothing to fear (of course there is, but so far it all went well) - and I totally want to have my addons back. They were there for a reason; without them, Firefox is no longer the best.  In fact, without addons Firefox is nothing but the fattest kid in the world.

So I removed 48 and reinstalled 47.

Do they know what they're doing?!
Have you abandoned Firefox? If not: Do you use a newer version than 47.0.1?

« Last post by Curt on August 13, 2016, 07:42 AM »
Teracopy is a copy handler for Windows PC only.
Teracopy is free, Teracopy Pro is $20. A Pro license is a Lifetime license.
Version 2 is still the official version - the update was for version 3 Beta
From time to time Teracopy Pro can be found discounted on Bits du Jour

TeraCopy 3 beta 2
August 11, 2016 by Oleg

http://codesector.com/teracopy
http://blog.codesect...m/category/teracopy/

teracopy_compact.png

Changelog:

Faster Logical to physical disk mapping.
    Mapped network drives detection.
    Notifications fix.
    Delete R/O files on replace.
Add entire drive to file list.
Quote comma in csv reports, export folders.
File date discrepancy increased to 2 sec.
    Better completed state icon.
    Smoother scrolling with touchpad.
    Other bugfixes.

TeraCopy is designed to copy and move files at the maximum possible speed. It skips bad files during the copying process, and then displays them at the end of the transfer so that you can see which ones need attention. TeraCopy can automatically check the copied files for errors by calculating their CRC checksum values. It also provides a lot more information about the files being copied than its Windows counterpart. TeraCopy integrates with Windows Explorer's right-click menu and can be set as the default copy handler
-Teracopy
You may use the license for Pro in one of two ways: one user on multiple computers (example: a desktop computer and a personal laptop which are both used exclusively by you) multiple users on a single computer (example: a home computer which is shared by all family members)
