I made a Winamp-specific thingy, doesn't need to change shortcuts or anything.

- wow, Matias, what a fine solution!  :up:

Thanks!!   :)

Edited:
will it take much to give it a pause / disable -button, please?

I have found a much easier way! The trick is to use WinAmp, somehow it will activate the tracks without asking me anything!  :up:  But still I need to click "Next" every seven, eight or ten seconds, or so. Can anyone tell me how to chnange skrommel's version from Win MediaPlayer into WinAmp 5.5 Pro, please?

Oh, ok :)
But if my version works, you only have to change the 20000 to 10000 and you should be ok!
ehmm... you probably forgot you compiled it to be an exe file, and not an ahk?   ;-)
- but your version works with every media player.  :up:

Lately I have taken up the habit of copying audio sound files from the various programs I am testing, into (XP) Windows NT > Pinball. Of course many files comes with the same names, sound1, sound2, etcetera, and I will have to rename these. But this (Copy To ...) is where Windows (XP) is pi**** me off: why am I only asked if I want to replace, yes, no, or cancel? I simply cannot understand why I not am offered to rename the doublet file names, by hand or automatically. Any unzipper will offer this totally basic feature, so why not Explorer itself?

What do you do?  :tellme: (except for not using Explorer at all, that is!) I have all sorts of programs to help me, but none for this feature. (Or did I forget?) Is there some specialist on this 'Copy & (auto-)rename' feature, for XP's Explorer?

I am not going to test DocFetcher any further - unless someone tells me how to make it start minimized - it is too annoying to see it fill up the screen at each startup! The shortcut is of course marked Start Minimized - I also tried if it would accept -tray for an argument - but to no avail.
Heh heh!  :D  Don’t you just hate that !? Try using Chameleon Startup Manager - it does that with ANY program for which I set up a startup delay. Annoying is much too mild a word for this. If I could find another startup manager that handled start delays I drop this dog in a minute.
Oh! And of course. Startup Delayer does this very well as well...

- I was using Startup Delayer!  :(

Both WinPatrol and AnVir Task Manager Pro handle delayed startups. WinPatrol provides you with more options and control and comes in a free version, mind you...

Yesterday I purchased AnVir Pro, so I tried if I could make the dog fetch, ehh... too cheap!.. docfetcher behave more to my liking, but only to realize that when I click docfetcher.exe there will be no docfetcher.exe starting or running; only javaw.exe. DocFetcher works entirely in Java! But I cannot put javaw.exe in Start and expect it then to appear as DocFetcher, can I.

I don't think I will make friends with this dog.

I drop this dog in a minute.

Found Deals and Discounts / Backup Platinum 40% off
« Last post by Curt on October 30, 2008, 08:49 AM »
Agnitum is the maker of the Outpost security products. Today they mailed me and offered me to purchase a copy of Backup Platinum, with a 40% discount. "This is still expensive", some may say, but maybe 'you' would like to take use of it? I am not buying it myself, because I already have plenty of the kind, but I have not heard anything bad about this program. The link http://www.agnitum.c...p/oct2008newsletter/ will redirect you to RegNow's order form where $67 becomes $40. Mind you, though, the offer is time-limited   and I don't know for how long!!

Coupon Code: AGNI–EQGA–TUM

Backup Platinum is an easy-to-use yet powerful backup program designed for Microsoft Windows. It makes a reserve copy of your critical data virtually to any type of storage media: hard or USB drives, CD-R/W, DVD, FTP or LAN. New: DocFetcher
freeware, version 0.9:
http://docfetcher.so...forge.net/index.html
http://docfetcher.so...ge.net/download.html

Copy&Paste:

Description:
DocFetcher is an Open Source desktop search application: It allows you to perform fast searches for all documents in a given set of folders that contain certain keywords. - You can think of it as Google for your local document repository. The application is currently available for Windows and GTK-based Linux distributions.

Required: Java Runtime Environment
A Java Runtime Environment (JRE), version 1.5 or higher, is required. You can download it from here. To find out what JRE version you have, open a command prompt and type in "java -version".

For Linux users it is recommended to use the official Java Runtime from Sun instead of the other, partly incomplete implementations of Java, both for compatibility and performance reasons.
Windows

The Windows version runs on Windows 98, XP and Vista. Other Windows operating systems may also work, but have not been tested and are not officially supported.

    * Windows Installer
    * Portable version (requires no installation)

docfetcher-logo.png

Example...:
    * You specify one or more folders to make searchable, e.g. "C:\MyDocuments".
    * DocFetcher extracts the text from all documents in "C:\MyDocuments" that it is able to read, e.g. HTML, MS Word documents and PDF, and stores the result of this processing in "index files". The indexing process might take a few minutes (600 documents = about 3 min.).
    * Now you can type keywords into DocFetcher's search box, e.g. "fourier analysis", hit Enter, and DocFetcher will list all documents inside "C:\MyDocuments" that contain these words - most of the time in less than a second.
    * What if the original document repository is changed? Then the index files will get out of sync with the repository, obviously. However: (1) DocFetcher can listen to file system events and automatically update its index files when it's running. (2) In constrast to completely (re-)building an index, an index update is usually a matter of seconds.

Supported Document Formats:
    * HTML and plain text (both customizable)
    * Portable Document Format (pdf)
    * Microsoft Office Word (doc), Excel (xls) and PowerPoint (ppt)
    * OpenOffice.org Writer, Calc, Draw and Impress
    * Rich Text Format (rtf)
    * AbiWord (abw, abw.gz, zabw)
    * Microsoft Compiled HTML Help (chm)
    * Microsoft Visio (vsd)

Features:
    * Detection of HTML pairs (e.g. "foo.htm" and a folder named "foo_files")
    * Various file operations on the document repository (e.g. creating folders, inserting new files) can be performed through DocFetcher's interface.
    * Customizable text and HTML file extensions (e.g. "nfo", "cpp", "java", "py", "shtml", and so on)
    * Regular expression based exclusion of files from indexing
    * Automatic index updates on changes to the indexed documents (optional).
    * Preview panel with search-term highlighting and a simple built-in web browser
    * Search results can be sorted and filtered according to different criteria (filetype, filesize, path, etc.).
    * A portable version for both Windows and Linux is available, which, amongst other things, is useful in combination with volume encryption (TrueCrypt).

Curt: see if this will do it for you:

@jgpaiva
I have created myself yet another problem. I was so pleased with the selection of music files I was offered, that my drm protected collection now is 12.000+ files - which ALL need to be activated one by one!!!

Can you make the file wait 10 seconds, instead of 20, please?
12.000 x 10 seconds = 33.3  hours  less!  ;)

Big THANK YOU for the file,  :Thmbsup: installing as we speak, ehh... as I am typing this :-)

The mystery is growing. My supplier (YouSee.dk) told me that the monkey is working okay on their side, and we tried a number of solutions, we even resat my IP address. Nothing helped. I may give up - No media monkey for me!

Thank you, Shades.
Reading Dutch is almost easy for someone from Jutland, the western part of Denmark where I am from. Draadloze = Traadloese (trådløse), for an example. We often joke that the written Ducth is a mix of German and Juttish :-) However, in no way does this apply to the spoken Dutch!  :o

 :(  Nothing has improved!
I am not aware that I have any problems on the Internet, regarding connections, except for this media monkey. One thing I am sure about, now, is that the error must be on my supplier's side, not on mine. But it is a very big company ("You are now number seventeen in the queue"), they may not react if I say I am unable to establish contact with some monkey...

A little off-topic, but I can't avoid mentioning a useful site for this kind of situation: Down for everyone or just me?

- not off but on topic (my (off) topic, that is)! I knew such a site was around but couldn't remember the name. Thanks!

... Try entering the IP address instead of the URL and see if that connects.
.... Alternatively, you could do it from a command prompt by flushing your arp and dns caches.

I tried both solutions, but nothing helped!!! Edited: I tried both 209.200.15.117 and 209.200.50.117

I still miss to ask Windows to fix the problem, because I cannot remember where / how to!   :-[

General Software Discussion / Re: Apple Patents the OS X Dock!!!
« Last post by Curt on October 26, 2008, 03:07 AM »
I'm sure Apple's lawyers wouldn't even break a sweat drafting their arguments in a case like this. I have to say, though, that I can't really see what or how they are losing by having the dock replicated on other platforms.
I hope Apple doesn't go after the other dock apps but given Apple's attitude and sue-happy legal history, I'm almost sure they will :(

Software patents are evil.
I hope you're wrong about Apple... if you are not, I think that going after small developers is petty.
They already did this with Y'z Dock way back when.
Oh crap!
It's interesting that they actually were granted the patent when you consider the fact that Stardock have been making docks since 1994, years before Apple implemented their version.

Something tells me that Stardock is preparing for the end of ObjectDock. Today they send out a news letter, saying that lately they have not been happy with the development of ObjectDock, partly because of how good Vista is looking, implying that ObjectDock probably will have to change or die. They don't mention Apple or any court trial.

You can read the linked pdf Stardock Customer report, 2008, ('some' might want to go straight to page 17, and read on from there), it is a very interesting read:

- don't be too sad  ;)  ShellLess Explorer is quite okay, nothing wrong with it, fair and useful, but that may be just about how long the story goes. You can have all of the features from elsewhere, most or all for free, if you search the web, and more important in my opinion, you can use Quizo , which you can't if you are using ShellLess Explorer. I liked using ShellLess, but I don't miss it a bit.

BlueGriffonTM

The next-generation Web Editor
based on the rendering engine of Firefox

If you are into creating web pages, and would like to gain influence on the development of a web editor, now is the time to say hello to BlueGriffon. It is totally new, the site was launched 30 Sept 2008, so there is very little to tell, yet.

BlueGriffon

In the beginning was Netscape Gold. Then Mozilla Composer. From the ashes of Netscape and the code of Mozilla Composer came Nvu. Nvu had a cousin, KompoZer. But all this tools now belong to History and are extinct or on path to extinction.

In the meantime, Mozilla brought Firefox to the masses and its rendering engine, Gecko, has the power to fuel a next-generation wysiwyg editor for the World Wide Web. This editor is BlueGriffon.

Stay tuned !
