General Software Discussion / Re: New App - Floating Ruler - Feedback?

That's exactly where I tried it...doesn't move.

And that section is "transparent" and I can click through it as if it's not there.

Not like it is in your screenshot.

This is a screenshot of it over my browser window. I can actually click my browser's refresh button right through the floating ruler form:

Living Room / The Last Smiley: Shockwave 3D game

OMGHI2U!!! lol ^_^... did u see wut he posted??? :)
ummm neo is broke, smileys arent working :[ :[

Yes, on that fateful day the smileys were indeed not working. They had been stolen and whisked away to a place far, far away where they would have all the colour removed from them and would become plain, boring text. The players of Neopets would no longer laugh out loud, there would be no more rolling on the floor, and they could try as hard as they liked but their ... ummm .... arms would never come off.

In this game you play The Last Smiley. You must find, and liberate the other smileys and make your way through the world of Neopia back to the NeoBoards where you belong.

You do not need an account to play. You only need one to register your score.

This one makes my heart jump when I fall off the platform.

I tested it on XP and I can't drag the window at all.

I have not tested it on my WinME machine yet. (royal pain in the butt to download things with that one's 33.6k dialup)

« Last post by app103 on September 28, 2006, 12:38 AM »
I also use xchat, but I use one of the free windows versions. (not linux)

xchat.png

I have also been known to use the old MS Chat just for fun.

This was the ancient IRC client from Microsoft that was eventually replaced by MSN Messenger. It's unique in the fact that it presents conversations in comic form and each person can have their own character file, complete with expressions and body poses.

The characters in my client are not the default standard black & white ones. They have been replaced with full color ones. This is not a client for regular use, as it puts additional codes in the channel along with your text that can be annoying to users with normal IRC clients.

This is what's starting to play on radio.
Right Now!.

I just took a look at the list there and I think I am out of touch. I have never heard of any of those songs.

And I am not sure if this is a bad thing or not.

I have been spending most of my music listening time either at Delicious Agony or Pandora and those songs don't come up in the playlists.

Hint: play it on a slow PC...like say 233mhz  ;)

I love the hill one!

There is even coin crumbs...lol!

I can almost imagine Cailin hiding in that tree ready to jump out, grab the coins off the plate and yell "Gimme those gold coins, bird, kthx!" and then running off down the road.  ;D

If I can get used to using this one it might be better than the pixel rulers I currently use. It's much more precise.

I like how you can set the thickness of the rulers...and the color.

It would be nice if there was a way to drag the control window instead of having to set the position with the controls. Or maybe make the control window not attached to the rulers and able to be dragged.

And I noticed it doesn't play well with Snagit. It disappears when I try to do a screenshot with the floating ruler in it.

floating ruler.png

It would also be nice if there was an additional setting so you could set a point to be considered 0-0 rather than it using the screen's 0-0 x-y coordinates. Measuring position in a browser window for setting CSS positions would be much easier if the 0-0 was relative to the space within a browser window rather than the screen.

Bruce Lee was quite an incredible man off screen. I have known about the off screen story of his life for quite some time. I am an admirer of his accomplishments, and especially his "nothing will stop me" attitude. He wasn't a guy that took "no" for an answer.

One very awesome dude, he was.  :-*

I am in.

I have something that needs to be done by this Saturday, I have procrastinated for the last 3 weeks, got the definite deadline this past Saturday and am still procrastinating about it.

I didn't speak up about it before because I thought I might have to say what it was I am procrastinating about and I'd rather not.  :-[

All I know is if I don't get off my butt and start doing it today it will never get done in time.  :(

And I still don't want to do it....but I will.

It seems easy but it's not...

Type in things you would find on a farm.

All things are related to other things in some way.

One thing leads to another.

Click yellow blocks on the minimap to reveal different areas of the puzzle.

It will be quite an accomplishment if you can solve this puzzle...and an even bigger accomplishment if you can solve it alone.

I think the problem is abrupt extreme changes.

I think it works better if you make small changes you can live with and don't change more till you have adjusted to the first ones you have made.

The abrupt extreme changes are what cause most to fail.

Giving up the bad habits all at once makes you feel deprived and miserable...as if you are trying to be someone you are not...so you revert back to your old ways.

But if you made one change, like giving up one bad habit and replacing it with one good one, instead of a million changes, it is easier to live with that change...then add others 1 at a time as you can accept them.

I think 3 months is too short of a time to reinvent yourself...the changes won't last.

For me personally, a change or 2 a month is about all I can handle without losing my identity and becoming confused & depressed.

How is your dissertation (or thesis) coming?

Is it finished yet?

This site is the discussion and support group for people that just can't seem to get it finished.

Thanks for the tip, Tracy!

Of course, I continue to tinker and customize, I'm always on the search for new goodies. But I like mouser's suggestion of only installing new stuff on the 1st. I already have designated the 1st and 15th of the month to do my financial housekeeping, so designating the 2nd of the month as install night would be a good reward.

Don't forget to schedule an uninstall night for all the goodies that you lost interest in about a month later.  ;D

Paintshop Pro 7 (I don't like the newer versions and will only use that one)
Any reason you don't like 8? Haven't tried 9, but after corel bought PSP it *did* turn darn awful.

I have full versions of 7 & 8.

Somewhere between versions 7 & 8 the guys at Jasc decided that it would be a great idea to toss out the window half of the good things that made it worth buying.

Without removing 1 feature they managed to take this away:

  • Simplicity
  • Speed
  • Familiarity
  • ability to run it from a thumb drive on another pc without actually installing it

In addition to all the useless new crap they added, they also gave you the following:

  • An environment that can now compete with Adobe Photoshop...in the confusion category.
  • It's now quite bloated.
  • No matter what drive you install it on, it will create unnecessary files and folders on your C drive rather than keeping them in the program folder like it used to.

So now, instead of getting a faster program that was easier to use than Photoshop, yet just as powerful, and for less money, you ended up with a cheap imitation of Photoshop, which is not what Paintshop Pro users want or need.

The exception to this is the trial of version 9. That was worth installing on a slow Win9x or 2k machine alongside version 7 for one reason only:

The ability to see thumbnails of .psp & .tub files in Explorer. There is no way you can actually run PSP 9 on a 233mhz machine with 64mb ram, but those thumbnails are really nice. And even after the trial expires, you can still see the Explorer thumbnails.

But you can also get that with this freeware utility and it actually works better than what is supplied by PSP 9+ and they have finally updated it to include 9x and 2k versions:
