General Software Discussion / Re: Renamers, Picture Viewers, etc., 1999 before 2
« Last post by Curt on November 11, 2008, 07:16 AM »
there is an "use natural order sorting" - option to set too.

This is strange to me! I am certain natural sorting already was checked, so I didn't start the "old" ReNamer up to test again, but went and updated it instead. A minor update it was, but right out of the box it uses "natural sorting". Thanks, AbteriX!

However, I didn't find a way to make ReNamer transform 1, 2, 3, into 0001, 0002, 0003. But that is okay, for the time being, as I now have Ant Renamer to do that little part - until another fine renamer enters the stage :-)

Are there any more "Rename natural sorted files" -renaming programs?  :tellme:

I'm wondering how I can use Win+F an a shortcut for Everything instead of the (useless) Windows search...

- yes, that is a good idea, alexey_r. Maybe [hint] some more people will write the author, David Carpenter, and suggest something similar? [/hint] I wrote him this:

Wow, I am so impressed with your Everything! Next step surely must be to integrate with (replace) Explorer's search box just the same way the fine SearchGT does. This is my number one feature request, please! Number two must be for you to set up a donate button, even though experience tells that very few will use it.

I just created 1000 files and load them in my favored renamers and they sort them like 1,2,3....,10,11,...99,100,101,...999,1000,...

ReNamer by den4b ========> http://www.den4b.com....php?project=ReNamer

- are you sure about ReNamer as well? My version did not sort it like this.

Anyway, the job is done, thanks to Ant Renamer. And the brothers Kristiansen of Norway have already started to work out a more permanent solution for me. Watch out for the next version of Kristanix File Renamer Turbo; it just may begin to respect it's own suffix...

what about a simple AHK script?
the following would handle up 99,999 files

- thanks a  lot, Target! I really look forward to test this script. :up:

This is the one I use, when I need it, which is rare.
Advanced Renamer http://aren.hulubulu.net/

Thanks a lot for reminding me, cmpm. Advanced Renamer is yet another competent Dane ("hulubulu"!?) I had forgotten about! I tried it several years ago, but I can see it has been constantly improved ever since.

As for my bad-mouthing of XnView's picture quality:

Doesn't setting better quality help?

Tools -> Options -> General -> Read
Tools -> Options -> View -> High quality zoom
Tools -> Options -> -> View -> Fullscreen -> Use delayed high quality...
-fenixproductions (November 10, 2008, 05:08 PM)

- I must admit that I already have forgotten what change I made, but I do remember clicking a box - and now XnView is just as good as the other viewers. Sorry, XnView, and Thank You, fenixproductions!

- you were absolutely right about Ant Renamer!  :Thmbsup:

However, the program reminded me of what f0dder once said, that it is hard to add Unicode later on; it should be implemented from the beginning. Ant Renamer is offering support for Unicode all right, except in this, this, or that situation...

I did a lot of go-carting in my younger days because my brother owned a big out-door circuit for go-carts - both for the big club versions and for the smaller public rentals! Oh yeah, the feeling of speed! :-)

I assumed that DocFetcher would need to be placed in Start in order to keep the index updated.
Was I assuming wrongly? If I was, there is of course no need for it to start minimized. But if I was right, and it needs to start with Windows, then it really should start minimized, because I would never use it until later  when I have finished reading my mail, etcetera.
Sure, a checkbox will be all it would take.
Thanks for asking! :-)

What program did you use to extract the pics?

Could be the answer is in it's help or faq section.

Thanks, but No help from Help. No FAQ.
And certainly No contact! - I wouldn't dare to contact that site from my own address! The program is SC Video Decompiler from SoftwareClub.ws - any firewall or anti-spyware will be alarmed, but the decompiler does it's job (and does it well), and nothing more.

Thanks a lot Chris.
I have passed your informations on to the author of my renamer. Some hours ago I yelled at him (in writing), so I guess he should be the first to know where to (maybe) find a solution :-)

Are you going to tell the forum about this experience:

?
Is it an ongoing hobby, or was it a one of the kind event?

General Software Discussion / Renamers, Picture Viewers, etc., 1999 before 2
« Last post by Curt on November 10, 2008, 06:03 AM »
I extracted the pictures from a video, and they were automatically named  1, 2, 3, etcetera. Explorer doesn't have any problem with this, of course, but my favourite image viewers would display them in the order 1, 10, 100, 1000, 1001, (...), 1999, 2, etc. So I figured I would rename the image files accordingly, 0001, 0002, only to find out that four of my five renaming utility are suffering from the same illness, (and the fifth couldn't handle that many files)!!

Apart from this being a great disappointment to me, it made me wonder what others are doing in situations like this. Is the listed numbering order sometimes a problem to you? Do you have a renaming utility and/or a picture viewer that will show the files in the same order as Explorer?
:tellme:

Edited:
I forgot to say that I so far have settled with XnView, because it will handle the numbers correctly. But the image quality from XnView really is inferior, so I would like to know your answers anyway.

You may want to also check out Tidy Favorites by Dennis Nazarenko who also wrote Tidy Menu and Vista Start Menu. I have only had Tidy Favorites Pro installed for some minutes, so I don't yet know anything about it.

What Makes Tidy Favorites Unique?

    * Tidy Favorites
    * Freedom
    * Cut & Save
    * Security

A New Breakthrough in Working with Bookmarks
Tidy Favorites is a next-generation program that makes working with bookmarks safer, faster and easier. Intuitively designed and fully customizable to suit your exact needs, Tidy Favorites sets a new standard with dozens of exclusive features:

- Find websites instantly by viewing easy-to-recognize thumbnail images
- Open, copy, delete and update bookmarks in a single click
- Drag and drop to resize and rearrange bookmark thumbnails
- Add temporary links to a "stack" keeping your Tidy Favorites looking tidy
- Search through any website in seconds using a Command Line
- Use the same list of bookmarks in every browser - IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Dennis usuallly writes some good and stable programs (I use them all). ;-)  http://www.tidyfavorites.com/

Circle Dock / Re: Easy Unicode Paster 2.0 is Released (Major Update)
« Last post by Curt on November 09, 2008, 07:07 AM »
Congratulations with a fine program, Eric. Do you remember what button- font and font SIZE you used for Easy Unicode Paster version 1.2, please? My old eyes liked that size a lot better than the various font with smaller font sizes you have been using for later versions. But I have not been able to duplicate it. In fact I still use version 1.2 because of this. ;-) Oh yes and because my copy of version 1.4 CardsMusic refuses to be topmost from first popup! It will always start behind any active window, and only when I click it and press Topmost will this feature work. Anything I can do to repair?

- Direct Access is getting very expensive to keep updated, I think, and I am not too sure I will update my old €2 version... Did someone test if the 30% discount code (DONATIONCODER) still is valid?

Excellent letter, mouser and Darwin.  :up:

And lastly, a note about the differences between Find and Run Robot (FARR) and LaunchBar Commander (LBC).  .....  Personally I use both -- LBC for my more common programs, and then FARR for the less common ones.
:D - just goes to show how different we are, as people. I might wanted to say the exact opposite: FARR for everyday used programs, because those names I can remember, and LBC for the seldom used ones, because these names I most likely have forgotten. Anyway, as it happens I can't remember any names at all ~ I am not a 'keyboard maniac' ~ therefore: Congratulations to mouser on the major update of LauncBar Commander.   :)
