Unless they suspect foul play(autopsy may be ordered in the future) then cremation would seem more sensible.  We're running out of room for housing living people because we're selling plots of land at premium prices for the dead.

Has anyone read After Many A Summer Dies The Swan ?

Transpose 1.8.0.0 Added "back tic key copy" support for Opera 11 Browser.

edit: btw, after text is copied to clipboard with back tic key, a left mouse click is sent to the browser to clear the selection.  To avoid inadvertently clicking a link, make sure the mouse is over a blank section of the page.

I use it for Twit TV and Netflix.  Twit TV is fine but Netflix often the video is so dark it's like radio.  There's no way to adjust brightness and contrast.  Seems like either you have no problem at all, or it's just about useless for watching streaming movies.

If you go on Netflix's user forum there's a thread that will never die with 2 groups of posters.  The "it's so dark I can't see the movie" group and the "I don't have any problem at all" group.  Seems like there's some hw issue that no one is able or willing to delineate.

Transpose 1.7.0.0 Added IE browser to the list of browsers with auto copy selected text to clipboard support.  Changed this to just use the back tic key by itself as the hotkey. (The same physical key as the tilde on most US keyboards.)

No need for timing releasing the mouse button and Alt key together.  If you press the back tic key with no text selected you'll probably get a clunk system sound but how often do you use the back tic key? If it's often, the new source is included to modify as you wish. :)

Hmmmmmmmmm, looks like they added a couple of processes.  Used to be 8 chrome.exe + 1 more for each tab.  Now I've got 3 tabs open and count 13 instances of chrome.exe!!

I don't use many of the advanced features on browsers. It's easier for me to adopt a beta or nightly if the basic functions and extensions work. One thing I've found is it's a better use of my time to just hack something together in ahk or AutoIt3 to get it the way I want than to lobby the browser developers. I think I started asking the Opera guys for an AutoCopy type function about 6 years ago.  I guess they never heard of CTS.  They told me to quadruple click the mouse or some crap to copy a line of text.  Ah, no way Jose!! :)

Likewise I reported "open new tab in foreground" in Chrome/Chromium was broken awhile back.  Apparently opening tabs in the foreground is against the religion over there.  They kept reporting it fixed when it wasn't.    :'(

For bare drives I've had good luck with ExcaliberPC

http://www.excaliberpc.com/

With the prices they charge you can afford the FedEx shipping to avoid UPS "head slap" I've heard about.  Another thing I like is they don't try to hype you with "only 2 left in stock" stuff.  The WD drives I buy, last time I looked it said there were like 20,000 on hand. :)

For an editor to jot down notes such as hotkey reminders, it's a matter of personal taste, but I've been playing around with CintaNotes for grabbing source snippets.  It might be good also for hotkey notes since it sits in the tray all the time:

Miles, as far as I know, every active extension runs as a separate process so that if one part gets flaky, the entire browser need not go down. I'm still on v.10 for now.

I understand.  The thing about AutoCopy type function is I'm used to it so I can't use a browser without it.  Just had to do my own as the AutoCopy extension is unpredictable. And I just hate right clicking after selecting text and clicking Copy.  Even worse doing Control-c on the keyboard.  My method, even though I have employed the Alt key, at least I don't have to let go of the mouse or do gestures.  Just hold the left button down until I hit Alt.  Plus often in a browser the selected area isn't what you want.  I hate sending stuff to the clipboard that I didn't want anyway.  This way I only hit Alt when the selection turns out right.

They must have made some optimizations in the browser code because it seems like anything 13.x the rendering just snaps up.  I start at the bottom of the build tree with the newest and look in the change log. If it doesn't look like a lot of stuff is broken I'll download the portable and try it. I'm using 13.0.764.0 now.

Thanks 40hz!
I have quickly fallen in love with CintaNotes.  For all of you that are hanging on to the old Evernote v2.2 since Evernote v3 went all cloud on us, CintaNotes is your replacement.  Look no further.  And it's portable, so it will definitely find a nice home on your flash drive.

I'm giving it a try now myself.  I'm using a TreePad file for general tips I type to myself. But for snapping up a script off a forum this seems nice. I'm trying out the CintaNotes portable.

http://build.chromiu...ots/chromium-rel-xp/

I've taken to using the link above for Chromium. I download the chrome_win32.zip instead of installer.  Before trying a new one I save my Chromium folder from AppData\Local.  Also I put the version and build numbers into the filename once I find out what they are. Makes it easy to go back if the new one has bugs.

I'm using 13.0.762.0 build 84892 now.  The only 2 things that kept getting killed on these nightly builds for me were favicons, so I wrote a tool to visit all the bookmarks to get them back, and AutoCopy, so I wrote my own as a Tray Hotkey.

I tell you Chrome is fast, but this build I'm using right now is super snappy!!  It seems to run 8 instances of chrome.exe plus 1 for each tab, but it's worth it!!  On my Windows7 PC I only have 2 GB ram and a dual core and it honks!!

Not a FF AddOn per se, but I've added support for Firefox in Transpose hotkey utility. It allows me to uninstall AutoCopy AddOn.

One thing annoying about auto copy extensions is when you want to select text then use a button like insert link the auto copy messes you up by copying the selected text to the clipboard, making it just about impossible to paste a link after pressing the Insert Link button on a forum.

The copy text to clipboard in Transpose only copies to clipboard if you select text with the mouse, then press the Alt key and release the key and the mouse button.  The text will deselect and you'll know it's in the clipboard.

It also works in Chromium and Opera browsers.  IE doesn't like it, probably due to the mouse button action.  But you could probably get it to work with a different hotkey.  I did the Alt-LeftMouseButtonUP combination because it doesn't interfere with standard right mouse click context menu then press Copy action. Also if you select text with the keyboard it doesn't come into play at all, making it easy to use Insert Link buttons etc..

After messing with AutoCopy AddOns I finally just said to hell with it and added the function to my Transpose hotkey that sits in the tray.  Chromium, Opera, and Firefox based browsers are already included.

How to use and modify is detailed here:

https://www.donation....msg248551#msg248551

You can download Transpose from this page:

http://www.favessoft.com/hotkeys.html

It's nice to have uniform usage across browsers.  I may even uninstall AutoCopy from Thunderbird next. :)

General Software Discussion / Re: Transpose 1.6.0.0
« Last post by MilesAhead on May 09, 2011, 09:15 PM »
Transpose 1.6.0.0 I updated Transpose to do the job of auto copy text to clipboard in Chromium, Firefox and Opera based browsers.

The way it works, select text with the left mouse button.  Press the Alt key before releasing the left mouse button.  On release of the key and mouse button you should see the text deselected. It should now be in the clipboard.

It's just a macro sending Control-c and later a left click to deselect the text. But it has the virtue of being independent of Addon or Plugin code.

The updated source is included.  I created a new group BrowserGroup in the ahk source. If you wish to add another browser just use the ahk spy tool to get the ahk_class name of that browser and recompile.

edit: I just tried it with IE 8 and it doesn't seem to like it.  But I like the action and use Chromium or Firefox for 99.99999% of my browsing anyway. :)

If you're into IE perhaps you can change the hotkey to something compatible if there's no reliable auto copy type addon for it. I don't use it enough to know.

Might be just a tad off topic, but I see Epson Stylus C88+ is still being sold with the on board Vista driver.  If you have a Vista machine and plug C88+ into it, it will serve the driver across the network to XP or W7.  But it doesn't work the other way around. If you plug into a W7 machine the client machines won't be served correctly.  Stuff like check ink levels won't work etc..

For W7 I'd make sure the printer model will serve the driver over the network.  Many of the Epson Stylus don't even have a downloadable driver.  The driver is on board and auto installs when you plug into USB. There's no way to update it that I know about.

5195
Instead of messing with this anymore, I added a hotkey hack to Transpose.  Now I can select text in Chromium based browser, then hit shift-right-click to copy to clipboard.  The selected text disappears.

Normal right mouse click context menu is still available this way.
Shift right click turned out to be less intrusive than control right click.
Only thing with shift click is I sent a mouse click to clear the text and
this was leaving some of the selection. I just increased the delay to
1/2 second. If you watch you can see the pause before the selection
disappears.

But at least this way you still have normal control-c or right click then copy functions. It doesn't really interfere with using Chrome/Chromium.

Way better than farting around with AutoCopy addon.  Plus I always have Transpose running anyway.

The source is included for do-it-yourselfers.  You can change it how you like. :)
5196
Oh well.  Guess I'll go back to the old right click and copy. Just too much hassle downloading and testing for one addon.

btw I'm running 84600 build of Chromium and it feels very snappy!!
So far AutoCopy seems to be the only casualty.
5197
Hmmmmmmmmm, every time I try to update I have to download about 40 builds until AutoCopy works with one. 83304 is the last one I tried that works.  The 7 or 8 newest builds all fail even if the highlighted text disappears as expected.  Copy to clipboard has to be one of the easiest things going. I don't get how it can fail in one version and not the next.  Really weird!

Anyone have AutoCopy working in a Chromium portable(the win32 zip file) newer than 83304?

I uploaded v. 1.9.  Now the Input Box pops up centered to avoid being covered.  If the short name for the active window comes up as "Explorer" nothing happens.  If the program associated with the active window comes up blank(as returned by WMI info) nothing happens. Edit: I tried adding a Beep so that you would know nothing was supposed to happen but all the beep frequencies I tried were more annoying than informative. So I just left it that nothing happens if everything doesn't go right, except for program startup errors and that type of thing.

I don't think this approach will work if you are trying to use it with Tray hotkey programs. It will work for apps with conventional windows. If you really need a reminder for all your hotkey tray apps then perhaps one of those tree editors would be better.

edit: I looked on both AutoIt3 and ahk forums and didn't see a successful technique to get the owner of a tray icon. Plus it's not always obvious if the tray icon actually has the focus.  Capturing the tooltip is not really unique as the app name isn't always used. As example Giganews Accelerator has this tooltip "Right click for menu" which hardly identifies the program. :)

Anyway, try the latest and see if it suits your needs.
If it's not that helpful and you are talking about remembering hotkeys for tray apps then something like TreePadLite may be better. I use it for general tips. You could put the program name as a node and have whatever text you want in the right panel.

Ok thanks for the info.  I'll see if I can do something about getting the input box to stay on top.  It picks up the active window.  So if you hit the hotkey while a tray icon has the focus, it's not going to work as expected. It's only designed to work with apps that have a window showing on the desktop.

I'll see about the stay on top thing though.

The Input box pops up at the top left corner of the app. You can put any info you want but it should only be a line of text since the storage file alternates lines key/data key/data just a simple text file.

The Key is derived by taking the short name of the program.  As example
c:\Program Files\MyProg.exe will have the short name MyProg. I use the MS
Scripting.Dictionary object to store the key/data pairs.  The file is read on start and written on program exit.  Naturally the first time you hit the hotkey the line will be blank. Once some data is there for that key it fills in the input line.  To abort changes hit Cancel or the close 'x'.  To change the data just type in whatever and hit OK Button.

Here's what the Popup window looks like when popped up on EditPadLite editor. The input line looks a bit short but it autoscrolls.  For noting what the hotkeys are it should be ok. I can make it a bit wider if needed. I just use the default width and height at this point.
