As a second example to 40Hz's addendum: I frequently see Veritas/now Symantec BackupExec causing NLB (Network Load Balancing) service startup failures errors, because it automatically references the NLB service even if it's not installed/used/available.

I don't think I've ever used an iFrame for anything I didn't end up regretting.

So, I'll vote script/proxy.

Granted most of my stuff pulls data from a SQL db and dumps it on a page as a report.

You may want to know the purpose of the gourd. . . well . . . It is the place where our nightmares are formed.

That's a nightmare ????????  Dream a little dream for me.......

ROFL - Touché ...I'd forgotten the gourd's purpose - But it has been almost 30 years since I read that series.

I've used Skype to Video conference with both Windows and Mac users, all went well. It's idiot simple and passed my "If I have to open help to make a call you suck" test with flying colors.

Not sure what the (wife's) plan is for tonight, but if I'm free ... I'm game to play target.

:wallbash: Well that'll teach me not to test a 64bit issue on a 32bit box...  :-[

The internal scaling issue I've seen before, I hadn't addressed it yet because you'd never mentioned it -  which has been bugging me (I eluded to it a few pages back) - and I/we/one of us had to get the positioning issue nailed down first. Thanks for finding it.

All of the ListView controls are added/created at runtime so I'll just need to add a routine to size & position them based on current conditions after creation.

Thank you for your patience and assistance in resolving this.

I'm truly not fond of the new key card purchasing/licensing system for MS Office that ties the suite to one machine.

Any chance I can get you to elaborate on that? I'm thinking I may not of heard of this yet.
5183
Did anyone read the comments on that article? They (made more sense) were better than the article.

I'm still using 2003 here at the office, but I've got 2007 at home. I don't really have a problem with either. apparently I should update one of them to 2010 so I can see what all the hub-bub is about.

Not sure if it was RDP v6 or Windows 7, but IIRC they "fixed" that by allowing the remote desktop to be side-scrolled so it isn't/wasn't/doesn't get resized/scrambled.

So, is Apple going to market A/V and FW software as "Vulnerability on your MAC? Yeah, theres an app for that!"

Absolutely not. That would require admitting that Macs can be vulnerable... No, this too will fall squarely on the shoulders of the users. Granted "Holding it wrong" has been used, but maybe staring at it to hard could be the next (oddly common) user error to indemnify Apple.

So they're going to issue a patent on something that's (simply) a sure fire way to piss people off? - :-\ -  It's totally free(ish) and completely useless due to constant interruptions (much like TV is today...).

...That sounds like just the proof folks were looking for to show that the patent system was broken.

Frustrating as it can be (been there so I know), the sad fact is (barring extenuating circumstances) laptop theft is just too 'small potatoes' a crime for most police departments to get lathered up about.

Yepper, Law Enforcement is a business like any other, the primary time focus is on the larger high value "accounts"...with only scant few crombs tossed at the tiny mom & pop stuff (which garner no votes in the next election). This is why neighborhood watches are so popular with all sides - The people get something done (or at least feel they are), and the fuzz just need to pop in and pickup vandal X with a bow attached.

...Then it's back out to the streets, to fight "real" (revenue generating) crime, like speeders, jay walkers, and kids loitering in parking lots.

Damn, that is fast! ...And will export found file list too - It's a keeper.

T-Clock / Re: T-Clock 2010 (beta - download)

Well this one runs.
But it isn't any different - except there is extra text on the about page - but it wraps after the second - and 3/4 of the second line gets clipped off.

Yeah, oops ... The test machine (looked fine, but) was at some weird res/DPI setting so I gotta redo that part - It was a bit of an (after thought) rush job.

It is still appearing off screen, and still shows scaled coordinates to window spy. If I move it so the right edge is adjacent to the taskbar then with the mouse at the right edge of T-Clock's window the x screen position  is about 1400 but when i move it right is suddenly jumps to over 2000.

Man, I've tried everything I can think of trying to duplicate this to aviod picking on your hardware. But, I think we may need to explore that possibility. I had hoped that someone else with that type of setup would chime in to confirm or disprove the behavior ... but it seems it just the two of us stuck head-2-head. I'm debating on adding a (work arround) option to save last dialog position as a last resort.

Everything I try makes it worse, and the more I research this everything points at the origional code as being correct.

*Shrug* I'm stumped... :(

Murphy was so impressed by your fix he slipped a x86 version into the x64 folders so it doesn't work on my system.

@kronckew - Build # added to about screen.

Okay, as luck would have it, my brother who just moved down here and is staying with us for a while has a 42" TV with a PC input. This gave me a much better test platform for the High DPI bugg. So...

Monitor: 42" Toshiba 1080p HD TV
OS: Windows 7 Professional
Resolution: 1920x1080
DPI: 150

Dialog Position: Where it Belongs... (Finally!)

In case anyone is wondering, the origional code was actually correct, I just needed to add the DPI aware option to the manifest file - which required VS2010. *Sigh* ...I really liked VS2005 better.

Only (other) down side at this point is I'm not sure if/how well it will run on Windows 2000 after being compiled with MSVS2010.

On a brighter note, I can finally get on with some of the other ideas/suggestions that have been mentioned/discussed/requested above.

There's a sad irony in a book about trees.

or perhaps there is a sublime honor in being a solitary tree from whose single trunk the entire catalog and history of all the world's arboretum might be set forth and passed on and studied.

Hm... I'm thinking that perhaps there is a fine line between "Sublime Honor", and Short Straw... :)

Me too - 87 Harley Davidson FLHTP

Funny how 50mpg and 0 to 60 in 3sec go together so nicely on a bike isn't it... :)

Here in Florida it's not a question of if it'll rain it's what time of day it will rain. Local weather forcasts are usually next to useless as the clown on TV prattles on for so long about trivia you miss the actual forcast.

While I too have the AccuWeather gadget, (and frequently ride anyway depending on my call schedule) I have an appreciation for things that will give me a simple straight answer...So I'll be playing with 40Hz's link for quite some time.

Normally, a forecast such as comes from http://goingtorain.com/ is closer to my speed.
ROFL - Mine too apparently - I just pinned the link to IE!
5196
All I know is if I hit the SuperGigaZillaBucks or whatever they call it, I wouldn't be on TV saying "even though I now have 20 $Billion I'm going to keep my job at the Post Office because I love pushing the mail around that comes in on the conveyor belt."

I have actually thought about this, and I would keep my current job, if I won the lottery - I like what I do, and the people I do it with.

The Dell PowerEdge 1800 we have here has a fan speed control and is whisper quiet - Yours should also have that feature/option.

If you go with Windows Server 2003 the IIS SMTP & POP3 services work quite well, I've been running them for years. MS took the POP3 service out of Server 2008 so my 2k3 mail server is a Virtual (PC) Server - Which is available via HTTP.

Hm... Time has not been on my side lately (so I'm not commiting to anything) but that does sound like a good fit as a T-Clock feature.

Living Room / Re: How to send fax through high-speed internet connection?
« Last post by Stoic Joker on July 15, 2010, 11:53 AM »
If you have a cell phone with [free] long-distance, you can do what I do when I need to send a fax.  I simply forward my cell phone to the fax number and then fax to my cell phone number (which is a local call but forwarded on to the fax number).  It works a treat for me on the rare occasion I need to send a fax since I don't keep long-distance on my house's landline.
Sorry, I should have clarified that I do this from a printer/scanner/fax combo (Canon Pixma MP830).  Though, I can't see why it couldn't be done from a modem in a computer along with some fax software.
Ah.  I took the OP though to mean a way to convert files to fax without using the modem or connecting telephone lines.  That was what I thought you were doing and I was curious how that was accomplished.  Thanks for the clarification.

Thre may be a middle ground here. Many cellphones have to option to connect them to a computer via USB. Part of the driver that is installed (assuming you can find it) is for using the cellphone as a modem ... Add the Windows fax service and you're there.

Just a thought.

Stoic Joker: you should just this suit  :D
Hm... Nope, can't do it. That requires that I actually buy one of the silly things (Ick!) before I can join in.

My way all I need to be is left-handed ... and I are.
