PS, for the uninitiated:
I believe what Stephen is talking about are called Chikadeew in the Americaes.
they're called Tits in the UK & Ireland, originally titmouse. In Germany they're called meise which I guess relates to the 'mouse' part of the english name - easier to keep a straight face if you want to tell someone you had a close encounter ;-)

Prompted by the previous thread, I watched a series of Barbara Stanwyck films a while back.
(I'm a fan at this stage :-*)

Cant give half stars so these roughly graded:

***** Ball of Fire (1941)
***** Always Goodbye (1938)
**** Midnight (1939)
**** My Reputation (1946)
*** So Big!

Even made some brief notes (no, no spoilers here, just didnt want to overload the post with info)
Spoiler
=======================
Ball of Fire (1941)
Director - Howard Hawks
Starring Barbara Stanwyck and Gary Cooper
A great film. Classic feel-good comedy. Intellectual world meets the working class - and the Mob.

=======================
Midnight (1939)
Director -
Starring Claudette Colbert and Don Ameche.
French taxi driver meets American woman who lost every thing in the casino.
Good fun, and interesting.

=======================
So Big!
Director -
Barbara Stanwick
Bit of a tear jerker. City girl used to living reasonably well, ends up in the poor part of town.
Very dubious ideas at times, but still a good film.

=======================
Always Goodbye (1938)
Director -
Starring Barbara Stanwyck, Herbert Marshall and Ian Hunter. With Cesar Romero.
Woman in trouble. Lots of funny (peculiar) relationships. The one that appears to be presented as the real one didnt quite convince me as 'the real thing', but that just added to the complexity of the film for me. Good fun too.

=======================
My Reputation (1946)
Director - Curtis Bernhardt
Starring Barbara Stanwyck and George Brent.
Expectations and propriety and what's-the-opposite-of-that, and supression and fear of commitment - all stirred up in a nice drama. One aspect was totally unconvincing (boys lack of response to their father's death)

=======================

there was at least one more I saw, but I cant remember the name now

I love the idea.
I remember Backup4all had something similar using plugins - IIRC apps could be added, yes:

I think this is a great idea, almost as if I came up with it myself.

mouser usually only thinks his own ideas are truly great ;) ;D :P

There's been over 30,000 downloads so far (since December 12th I think) so they'll be having to donate a lot more by Christmas eve.

I'm no photoshop expert but an aged look can be added there.

All I could see that you were doing was trying to help the guy and I didn't see anything "pompous".  ______ ________________________________________________________________

jeez dude, we're all just people. Havent you ever misinterpreted someone's actions or statements? Or maybe overreacted to something? I know I sure have - I usually dont online cause I use the preview button a lot before I click the post button - but in the 'spoken' world it's different... LOL, I'd hate to have you looking over my shoulder + coming down like a ton of bricks if I ever made a mistake ;D

I think I understand what you mean...so here is a video...if I am wrong...tell me, and I shall re-do it :)

 :up: very slick video Stephen (what do you use?)
The tip with the numbering is superfluous (it wont screw anything up though!) - the only reason it would be necessary to add numbers would be if you had, say four attachments, and you realised you had attached them in the wrong sequence -
then you could use e.g.
[attachimg=1]
[attachimg=4]
[attachimg=2]
[attachimg=3]
- in this example, the fourth file attached would be shown as the second image in the post.
5162
Select your image and post. The image will show where the [attachthumb=#] text is.

Now I understand why it seemed to not work: every time I looked at the preview of my messages, I always saw the code only ([attachthumb=#] or similar), I never saw the image in the preview, therefore I believed it didn't work. I'd have never imagined that to see the image it took to post the message.

Thank you Tomos.

Good point Giampy (and you're welcome).
I'll edit my post to note that.

@mouser -
it might be good if that was made clearer to the poster when previewing their post?

I have mixed feelings -and thoughts- there.
The reality very probably is, that the radio stations I do often enjoy listening to, would not exist if there were no license. As said above, I'm out of touch with TV, so I cant comment about that.
If the license wasn't there, we would only have advertising supported stations. Reminiscent of the internet craze for 'free' resulting in  lots of ad-supported apps - and adware.

One good thing about ad based tv & radio stations, you don't have to pay for the crap you don't want to watch or listen to.  If the station wants to be profitable they have to compete for good entertainment which brings in advertizers to pay for it all.

That's exactly what I see as not necessarily good.
The result?
Generic crap with tons of advertising. Lowest common denominator entertainment. I'm not saying your money should pay for what I listen to - but I am complaining about the alternative.
Last time I saw Amercian TV was scary - and that was years ago - I cant see it having gotten any better since.
5164

Quick question - why aren't the extended options available from the initial reply screen?
hmmm
"quick reply" could well include images without taking up too much space :-\

FWIW, not happening here with exactly same OS details "(Windows 7 Pro x64, SP1)"
5166
I have tried in any way but I don't still succeed in publishing an image stored in my PC.

if you use 'quick reply' (bottom of the page) click the 'preview' button.

Screenshot - 2012-12-16 , 18_49_13.png

Click 'Link inline image' (see cursor in next screenshot)

Screenshot - 2012-12-16 , 18_50_21.png

Select e.g. "inline thumb attachment" which shows this text: [attachthumb=#] - to show the image as thubmnail that enlarges when you click on it (recommended especially for bigger images)

Then, go to Attach:[______________] [Browse] below the textbox

Screenshot - 2013-03-29 , 11_54_33.png

Browse to the image on your HD. Select your image and post. The image will show where the [attachthumb=#] text is.
NOTE: the image will *not* show when you preview the post!

If it doesnt work, try to figure out and explain where it fails (thanks!)

Why must people be forced to pay? Why not just have the radio/TV stations actually have a business model other than stealing from people? Why not just give people the freedom to pay for what they want? Is that too much to ask? To not have the fruits of your labour stolen from you?

I have mixed feelings -and thoughts- there.

Some thoughts:

Hally's illustration(s) could be incorporated into a mug design by someone with design talent - which might be herself, but could be anyone.

I can technically do that kind of thing - but unfortunately, I dont have any real talent in that direction (design). Actually when I think about it, I'd say some type of hand drawn/inked calligraphy would go super with these images.

One Two of the things I love about the illustrations are the hand-drawn/painted quality, and the use of an aged looking paper. (Trying to convert them to vector images would lose a lot imo.)

With an illustration like that the most important thing initially is to get a really good quality and fairly high-resolution scan (or photo).

Till now all DC/NANY mugs are printed on a brilliant white -
an off-white or ivory mug would suit these images much better I think

via dangerous minds (I also added their contribution link in the quote)

Who would have thought that the highlight of the Hurricane Sandy benefit would be an absolutely badass performance by Sir Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear (a Germ meets The Beatle)?

The helter skelterish song is “Cut Me Some Slack” and it was written collectively by the group during a jam session. McCartney, playing a cigar-box guitar, does some amazing solo stuff. This really did exceed my, and most people I’ve talked to, expectations.

Editing the time (minutes worked) should modify the End Time, after putting "10" for 10 minutes, look over the end-time and confirm if it is actually 10 minutes. If you are satisfied, press enter

What didnt work for me before was editing the 'Time duration' - but I just tested it again and it works now :up:

As of Jan 1st, it's the same in Germany.
Everyone has to pay for radio already (unless you could prove you had none - not even in your car). I dont mind that myself - I actually listen to some of the funded radio stations and find them often very good.

Now, as of January, everyone must pay a flat rate per family for radio *and* TV. The people who benefit (i.e. pay less than before) are those with more appliances and more cars and more homes, i.e. the better off. And Renegade - please do not call that socialism, it is not socialism by any name :p (but let's not get bogged down with that either, it's just semantics at the end of the day).

Most people currently pay for TV here, but many opt out for various reasons, could be low income; or you just would prefer to have a holiday (or whatever) for the money you would have otherwise spent on license + hardware.
Last time I moved I actually gave away my tv and receiver - I was simply watching too much (now I go on the net too much  :-[). As of January I'll be paying the full whack again. I'm angry too.

I'm very wary of buying stuff from abroad -
Last year, I bought a smallish set of speakers from a seller on Amazon market (amazon.de). I didnt take any notice where it was coming from, the delivery costs were unusually high but the price was very low.
Here you have the legal right to send something back within two weeks - no reason required.
But I dont know if that is vallid for stuff coming from abroad.
Also, as noted already, if you're returning it abroad, you will have to pay high delievery costs again.
(I have no idea if you get any of the original delivery costs back.)

I complained to Amazon because it was the main offer for the item -if they dont sell it themselves they used just put the cheapest offer on the item's page- but there was no indication that it came from abroad on that page, and only a small mention (they claimed - I didnt notice anything myself) on one of the following pages when you go to buy.

In fairness to them:
I complained heartily, and since then, they dont put an offer that is being delivered from abroad on the item's main page (not that I've seen anyway). They will favour a more expensive 'national' offer.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In ebay.de I've often seen supplier using a german address but if you look further you will see that the company is abroad and it is not at all clear from where the product is being shipped.
I avoid.
