« Last post by tomos on January 16, 2013, 03:10 AM »
I believe the proper patch there is simply to delete them. :P
I think your right.  I have it installed just in case I need it, but have it disabled in the browser...

did I miss something? - what's the 'it' there ("have it disabled in the browser...")

the default folder for save as.. let me ponder this..

once I figured what was happening, I saved the next one in the correct folder. It remembers that - i.e. it remembers the previous save location.
So, this could have been user 'error', I dunno.

Thanks for the button tip

Okay, after a bit of misunderstanding things, I've figured it out:
the problem is that I'm saving the 'save as'/new file elsewhere, i.e. not in the same folder.

SC then cannot show it, so when I move to another file, the changes made are applied to the original.

This was complicated (for me) by the following:

I actually initially thought I was saving in the same folder, but I wasnt.
The default 'Screenshots' folder is
My Documents\DonationCoder\ScreenshotCaptor\Screenshots

I changed this to
Z:\My Documents\Screenshots

when I go to 'save as', it goes to the default one - I dont know is this SC's responsibility or mine ...

Let's try and remain calm and continue focusing on having a constructive discussion.

hi Josh,
my last post was an honest and fair analysis (okay, okay, not very amicable :-\) pointing out that I reckoned there was little chance of any more constructive discussion. This has been confirmed since - on both sides as I read it. Simonking is doing an excellent job for his company, but as you can see there's no more debate. Because of that I request that both related threads be locked.

hi BTJ was talking to you on irs, but got distracted...

XP mode is a virtual copy of XP that you run within 7 (disclaimer - I haven't used it).

Compatibility is more attractive, cause the app runs in 7 - but hopefully it runs more like it did on XP.
Try out a couple of the compatibility settings, run the app, and see if it improves.

if so, wonder how long it'll take...

^ If the developer doesnt care to respond to the last points made; ignores responses made by the investigator; misrespresents said investegator's research; and makes baseless claims spurious at this stage of discussions - I would say the case is closed.

Anyone who reads the thread at this stage can see enough to decide whether they want to use the product or not.
A Big Thank You to f0dder, for all the brilliant research

Screenshot Captor
"Save Copy of Image As"

Screenshot - 2013-01-15 , 14_16_21.png

Okay, it doesnt say 'Save as' but I did expect it to work similarly
-
what I expected:
do a bit of work on a file, then 'save as' would leave the original untouched, and create a new copy which would include any modifications made.
what we get:
both files are changed.

i.e. the correct approach would be to create a copy and *then* edit it.

I dont expect you to change the behaviour* but I have gotten caught by this a couple of times before, and was wondering if you could make the wording clearer. I dont even have a suggestion myself, so I'm throwing it out there....

*  but if it were an option it would be clearer.

Anyone know what JavaFX is?
Some stuff to make it easier to make GUIs with Java, AFAIK (a bit of a simplification :)).

should that go as well?
If you don't know you need it, there's a good chance you can simply remove it - haven't bumped into any applications requiring it. It's installed by default by at least some versions of the JRE, so there's a good chance you got it without asking for it.

thanks - it's gone :) - will report if there's any problems
5089
^ yes, there is a certain amount of uncertainty even there.

Also, I was wondering had they delayed uploading the remaining titles because they were looking to find a more secure way of doing it. Or maybe it's just incompetence...

I wonder how Scribus would do...

Scribus
www.scribus.net/
Professional layout and publishing software supporting EPS and SVG import/export, and PDF support. [GNU GPL]

designed to export to PDF - I dont know if it can import/open PDFs, but if it can I reckon it would be pretty powerful.

Latest version is 1.4.etc
The release notes for 1.4.0 says
"Now that Scribus 1.4.0 has been released, the Scribus Team will focus on stabilizing the 1.5 development branch, which will comprise amazing new features like support for PDF/X-1a, PDF/X-4 and PDF/E, Mesh Gradients, native PDF import"
http://wiki.scribus....canvas/1.4.0_Release
my emphasis - I'm not 100% sure what it means though :D

Just as endnote: Adobe forum thread with clarifications from Dov Isaacs  (mentioned in Forbes article) seems to be deleted.
I wonder if it's not my VPN issue?
-fenixproductions (January 14, 2013, 03:41 AM)

Nope, it looks like they've rewritten history, as the other staffer's comments were removed as well. They've been all replaced with the official (?) line

the official line seems to be still this - (Post # 68 on the same page)
Effective December 13, Adobe disabled the activation server for CS2 products and Acrobat 7 because of a technical glitch. These products were released over 7 years ago and do not run on many modern operating systems. But to ensure that any customers activating those old versions can continue to use their software, we issued a serial number directly to those customers.  While this might be interpreted as Adobe giving away software for free, we did it to help our customers.
-
I'm not sure what exactly was removed/changed, but I think other comments were/are from Adobe staff that are more, eh, realistic...

Still quite a mess for people who actually bought the software and need to reinstall - many 'titles' are still not available:

89. Jeff A Wright,
10-Jan-2013 17:28   in reply to -X-Man

-X-Man I apologize but I don't have any specific updates to report at the moment.  We are aware that the following software titles are currently unavailable:

    Production Studio Premium
    After Effects 7.0
    GoLive 9.0
Creative Suite 2 for additional languages
    Acrobat 7 Professional

@tomos - if the goal is print, not pdf, then X5 is excellent. If Pdf > not really.
I disagree with brotman on Serif's pdf capabilities, prior to X6 (which is fine):
Before X5 it was merely "import Pdf", never "Save as Pdf".

thanks Curt.
(also - sorry, I wasnt clear about printing - I meant print-shop/professional printing.)

I'm fond of Serif's Page Plus.  It reads and writes PDF files, and offers extensive editing features.  It should be cheaper than Adobe products. it lists at around$100, plus it is often available in special offers  at reduced prices (as a longtime customer I got Page Plus X5 for around $50).    You can also get older and/or starter  versions for free on their website.  I dont know if their starter version includes PDF Support.  I think they've been PDF compatible since around V8 Note the current version v6 is equivalent to version 16. The page for X6 can be found here http://www.serif.com/pageplus/index.aspx .   The free downloads link is in the top bar.

Added Note:  FWIW: I was just at game giveaway of the day and they had an ad for Page Plus X5 for $30!  this version is only one off the current and DOES include PDF Support!  I've included the Direct link below in case the ad rotation removes the ad...

http://www.serif.com...CB5rQCFUid4AodCVsARA

that sounds tempting (even if you never use it :-[ )
Is it particulary easy to use? Have you ever used it for print-shop/professional printing (any level)?

I do need to create a draft layout that wont be published anyway, so I might try it, thanks

Keep in mind that you will not see any popups or warning signs if you get hit by a drive-by exploit, and this kind of thing doesn't just happen for people who are browsing for porn or pirated software - all it takes is one exploited banner server.

I have my brother-in-law's laptop on the floor here. It is totally incapacitated in spite of an antivirus/security system with one of the best reputations around. He has no recovery disk, and knows very little about computers (which is why it's on *my* floor). Oh yeah, he's self employed and there's lots of important files on it that aren't backed up.
Caused via a popup :(

To be honest I wouldnt have taken the whole java thing so seriously before seeing that today.

If you know the PDF's are made with a particular editor, or a software that can edit them - then use that. (Otherwise I have no definite ideas.)

But really - it's only the charms thingy that's the real problem, but boy does it drive me nuts - I even tried a registry tweak to remove it - unsuccessful.

This one? http://betanews.com/...-panel-in-windows-8/

extermely belated response -
That tweak does seem to stop the charms bar appearing if the mouse goes into the corners - but it still appears on certain 'gestures' which happen to be the same as when you simply move the mouse from a to b - with mouse or trackpad.
I'm getting jaded and am considering sending the laptop back cause the trackpad isnt functioning well anyway.

I'm added some related minor edits to my previous post above in [square brackets]
