On your homepage, the link to VBR is not leading me to VB6, but to version 4 (four).

- I am not a teacher into English, but Yes, the interpretation may vary, because of the comma following "released". As it is right now, one cannot use the program after a year, I would say, because of that comma. If they removed this comma, one may use the program for all time, but not have it updated after a year. Maybe I should write and ask them to clarify? Yes, I will do just that.

I test far too many programs to bother with the free version; only the annual subscription will make sense to me. And twenty dollar PER YEAR sounds very expensive, I think (except of course, if I too get a $1,000 check from one of the license holders)!

@ patteo:  If you are on Firefox it is as simple as installing an add'on like Copy Plain Text, or Extended Copy Menu (there is also a version for Internet Explorer), or even Auto Context, and then use the new line in the right-click context menu, "Copy As Text (without formats)".

Edited:
Another way is, to change/adjust View > Charset > ..., before copying.

- upgraded to version 2.0 today. They don't tell in what way version 2 differs from version 1, but if you desire to get their $20 PRO version I must advice you to also study their license: >>A EULAlyzer Pro license includes the use of EULAlyzer Pro, and all new versions released, within a 1 year period (from date of purchase).<<. I will however test their free "Personal" version ;-)

http://www.javacools...om/eulalyzerpro.html

EULAlyzer works on Windows 2000, XP, 2003, or Vista.

General Software Discussion / Re: What's your preferred File Manager
« Last post by Curt on January 04, 2009, 11:01 AM »
- and yet another one I hadn't heard about before: Double Commander. However, as the previous one, this one is not too 'new' and not too often updated...: >>26.12.2007: First alpha release of Double Commander 0.3 alpha.< and >17.04.2008: Double Commander 0.3.5 alpha released!<< -and nothing since then! Will it even work with Vista? I don't know, the text doesn't specify.

http://doublecmd.sourceforge.net/

Double Commander is a cross platform open source file manager with two panels side by side. It is inspired by Total Commander and features some new ideas.

Here are some key features of Double Commander:

    * All operations working in background

    * Custom columns
    * Internal text editor (F4)  with syntax hightlighting
    * Built in file viewer (F3) to view files of ANY SIZE in hex, binary or text format
    * Archives are handled like subdirectories. You can easily copy files to and from archives. Supported archive types: ZIP, TAR GZ, TGZ and also BZ2, RPM, CPIO, DEB, RAR.
    * Extended  search function with full text search in any files

On one of their pages you can see what features are working or under development.

Actually, there is a top secret link to PSTray Factory somewhere in these forums that gives access to the 64-bit version, if I remember correctly.  Hold on, let me find it...
OK, here's the actual link to the file:

And here's the thread where I found it here at DC (thanks Josh!):

The surfer is quite interesting, but seems to only be handy if the size of the visited folder is not too big. I pointed at My_Images (8.000 photos) and never saw the program again.

This one I hadn't heard about before: FileSurfer.

http://www.filesurfer.de/indexe.html freeware

Pictures: http://www.filesurfer.de/picturese.html

Windows 2000/XP/Vista(Beta)
requires DirectX9

FileSurfer is a new kind of file manager for Windows, which

    * allows navigation through the file system solely by mouse movements without button clicks
    * stores the folder structure across multiple sessions
    * works without installation (also from USB sticks)
    * allows navigation in six tabs
    * shows up to four views simultaneously
    * works as UPnP control point
    * can hide rarely used folders
    * allows the concurrent selection of files in different folders
    * can open files in different applications with a single mouse click
    * can assign attributes to accelerate navigation
    * shows files and images simultaneously inside a folder
    * plays videos if VLC (www.videolan.org) is installed
    * uses multiple threads to profit from multi-core CPUs
    * can be controlled with the SpaceNavigator (www.3dconnexion.de)

(C)1999-2008 Alexander König
version 3.3, uploaded on July 5, 2008; 1.8 MB.

FileSurfer is freeware. Just unzip the application and click on filesurfer.exe. All configuration data is stored inside the created folder, FileSurfer does not copy dll's and does not create registry entries. To uninstall the application, simply delete the complete folder.

beta version 3.4, uploaded on November 9, 2008; 1.8 MB.
downloading now ;-)

Edited:

Tuning

Disable "Animated transitions", "Show shadows" and "Show background image" to increase the frame rate on slow systems.

A new test has been published:

http://www.isecpartn...Up_After_Cookies.pdf
-iSec: Cleaning Up After Cookies

December 31, 2008
Abstract:

Modern web browsers and plugins are rapidly expanding web developers’ ability to store data on users’ sys-
tems, while simultaneously adding features which allow users the perception of more control over that data.
Users need to be confident that their perceptions match reality. Unfortunately, the privacy modes offered by
browsers are still evolving (several are only available as betas), and none remove all the tracking data users might expect them to block.

A tool was created to set and report on different data stores. This paper presents the findings from running this tool using several major browsers with two plug-ins across three common operating systems.  We find current browsers are unable to extend tracking protection to third party plug-ins such as Google Gears and Adobe Flash.  Some of these require no user prompting under common configurations and even expose tracking data saved with one browser sites visited by a different browser. We also recommend approaches for solving these problems.

Thanks to gHacks for telling.

And, Yes, f0dder, they do recommend NoScript ;-)

Are there any problems with the version 1.6.192 he uploaded, or...?

Living Room / Happy New Year, DC, and watch out for fire hazards!
« Last post by Curt on December 31, 2008, 08:05 AM »
What a fine way to end the year, we saw, when DonationCoder was named the most useful forum on the Internet. Wow, mouser! But at the exact same time, I found this picture which I haven't seen before, even though it seems it used to be famous, and I thought you all should see it. Not because of the increased fire hazards tonight, but because it is a fantastic picture, I think. The photographer was on the job as a fire behavior analyst from USDA Forest Service, eight years ago when he took this picture, and so the camera's default was "compress". Nevertheless it turned out to be an amazing photo! Notice the two deer in the creek.

Visual Similarity Duplicate Image Finder from MindGems is $25 but should equally be listed, because it will do the job fast & good. In fact I am thinking about having it replace Image Comparer! The $40 Pro version will read all picture formats.

For exact copies, I will use either Fast Duplicate File Finder (also from MindGems) or Duplicate Cleaner. Both $0.

- yes, it opens fine, now, I see, but I was trying to reach it from the inside of the pdf, and Firefox+PdfXchange Viewer wouldn't let me - said there could be no such link.

Rebate cheque by postal service? Hmm... so it really is a short termed loan?

Besides, the normal price for a new Nitro Pdf PRO at Avanquest-USA(server placed in UK)'s is listed as $80, not the $60 FRYS.com is telling. Wonder if they are trying to sell out an older version? It wouldn't be the first time!

Nitro PDF, even free today (after  mail in rebate; US only):
http://shop3.frys.com/product/5756842

- the link in the rebate giving pdf form is >webate.avanquestusa.com<, which no browser will find.
Did you use the offer yourself, Lutz?

@Jim the Mac... , I don't have gmail as my prime address, (and won't), so, googlegroups or not, I now realize that is important for me to first be certain that the saved emails are not showing up as if they were send from me to me, but from the original sender.
