As far as sock-puppeting, how do you prove it?

I had/have PM's from my presumed-perp but *the top of the ladder* refused to access them.  Even with my permission to do so.

Re-telling what was said doesn't work because none of the questionable posts were included in the original PM's.  :-\

Even a PM isn't conclusive, and just from my perspective from different altercations that I've had here and elsewhere, IMO private messages should stay just that... private.  Unless it is very above the shade abusive, the PM system is in place for a reason, and to violate that without *both* parties' consent goes outside the lines of what is reasonable.

Living Room / Re: Programmers: What size monitors do you guys prefer?

If anyone wants to join me in jumping to 27", this is the one i'm looking at -- newegg is currently having a bit of a sale on it:

LG 27EA83R-D

http://www.newegg.co...Item=N82E16824005494

Too rich for my blood.  I've looked at 27s and 30s, but haven't pulled the trigger.  They've been a lot less though... there are some really good deals on IPS monitors on ebay from S. Korea with Samsung screens.  I have a couple of friends that have gone that way... and the results are awesome.

But right now, at work, I have 2x21+24+17 (laptop screen).

At home, I have 2x24 + 20.  I had 3x24 at one point, but desktop space became a premium, and I didn't want to bother with complicated mounts to go vertical.

And as I've downsized, I realized that I didn't really *need* all of that space.  As long as my primary is large enough, the rest is just gravy.  What's been more important is the quality of the screen, i.e. LCD < LED Backlit < IPS.  The IPS is what makes the larger difference.

I just checked on eBay, and there's an LG on there from Newegg for less:

http://www.ebay.com/...-Panel-/291069085391

same price on newegg:

http://www.newegg.co...Item=N82E16824005419

The brightness is a little less... but not sure if that's worth the price difference.

DC's Jerk Filter is very effective and quick when it's a spammer.

Actually, that's because the members police a lot.  I'm on here a lot, and I report what I can't do anything about.  But I'm nowhere near a mod in general- and feel that my contributions in that case matter.  And there's a set and very cut and dried procedure in place.  As far as sock-puppeting, how do you prove it?

As a developer who makes money off of software, and a gamer who plays games, I still have very little sympathy.  I understand the points that they are making, but I just don't agree.

I 'bought' a free to play game, finally.  Tiny Death Star.  I paid for one 'dose' figuring that $4.99 was a reasonable price to get somewhere in the game, as the game was enjoyable, and definitely could have been priced as such.  But I quickly realized- they don't just want to give you a trial and then you pay something and get to play the game.  They want to wring you dry.  4.99 made me the proud recipient of an elevator that went twice as fast, and enough money to add one level.

That's not what I think of when I think of an equitable exchange for the money.  I've uninstalled it.

The games are pretty, and shiny, and have mechanisms within to make it fun to play.  But the relationship isn't equitable.

I did Pascal/Delphi for a long time... made a lot of money with it.  Now I use C#, and when I tried to go back just to look at some old code... I didn't find myself wanting to jump back into it.

Still syncing... :(

Man... you have the worst luck...

Make sure that you've downloaded the most recent client. Also, in the appdata directory, delete everything except the wallet.dat and conf file. Restart - you should be good then.

Did that... and it went from being stuck at about 22 hours behind to being 3 days behind.

*sigh*

Developer's Corner / Re: How to recover deleted files from Mac OS X?
« Last post by wraith808 on February 03, 2014, 11:54 AM »
When you say they were lost due to virus infection- were they merely deleted?  Or were they infected and thus corrupted?

In the first case, file deletion software should help- though I'd advise caution as you might be restoring something that is infected and could just cause yourself to be reinfected.

http://data-recovery...c-recovery-software/

In the second case, unless you have a backup somewhere, there's not really a way to recover that I'm aware of.

Another good comment:

"Basically the content industry has turned into the tobacco industry. A business that is causing harm to their customers, but it works because they are engaged in a pay-for-addiction strategy that forces people to stick with them.

There is nothing wrong with micro payments or in-app purchases if it is used to enhance the experience, but that's not what these CEOs are doing. They are using gamification to cheat you into becoming addicted to their product, then gradually lowering the experience to a point where you just cannot stand it anymore."

From the comments (and I totally endorse this comment)

To "fix" this problem, we need to make it acceptable to pay real-world prices for games so that developers don't feel the need to turn into greedy cretins.

We've entirely caused this by going "pfft! SEVEN QUID FOR AN IPHONE GAME?" and then rushing off to buy 99p games loaded with micro-transactions. And also "Oh this is a phone, I don't have time to sit for three hours playing games on it, I have five minutes at dinner... and now I will forget about your game and never ever play it again because I have 60 other cheap ones to go through"

And EA is bonkers... maybe they're trying to claw back money lost in SimCity ;-)

And that's the problem- we've steered them in this direction.  Where people don't want to pay $5 or $10 for a decent program, but want everything for free.  First they subsidized with ads, and had a full version with no ads.  But that's not popular.  So now, its micro transactions.  And most companies just don't know how to do it.

The same thing for f2p games.

I'm having the same problem I've had with DOGE... maybe I'm just too impatient.  It never syncs... and with DOGE, I gave up after I came back and there were double the blocks to sync that there were before I left.

Is it possible to get a T-shirt instead?  A ceramic mug is way heavy to lug around.  And another T-shirt is always good to have.  :)

It's a gift cert to cafe press.  You can use it towards whatever you want.  I have 3 mugs- the rest are still mugs, but just stuff related to programming. :)

I'm not OK with tracing. It's none of my business what other people do with their money, and it's nobody else's business what I do with mine.

Well, not OK in terms of that's ok... but given that there's a money trail with everything right now, it's a given.  Being able to take what you have given... that's a larger transgression.

Well, that's the thing about food (as with many other opinion related stuff)- it's all relative to the eater.  I like sushi, so...

Well, the server is more stable now- and the 100TB is gone already... which might explain the restored stability.
5048
there should be a terminal also- look at the top row of icons.  The first is for social.  The second is for teamwork.  The third is for terminal, and the last is just for editing.  Right now, it's way overloaded.  If you got signed up, then I'd suggest actually checking it out another day.

Codebyte had posted about Kodingen.com before- it's been a great idea, and it just keeps getting better.

Now they've rebranded themselves Koding.com, and they're giving away 100TB over the remainder of the week.

Hello there!

We're very excited to announce a completely redesigned Koding! It's now much faster, less distracting and easier to use. A lot has changed in the past couple of months and we'd love for you to take a look.

To celebrate this new era of programming in the cloud, we're giving away 100 Terabytes of storage*. This is our way of saying thanks to wonderful users like yourself who have been with us on this journey so far.

Here is how it works:

- Click here, login and receive an automatic upgrade to 4GB.
- Invite your friends this week and you'll both receive an extra 1GB when they sign up.

Enjoy!

Devrim co-founder and CEO
on behalf of Koding team
https://koding.com

PS. Although we're about to reach 200,000 users, you can always reply, I love hearing from you.

You normally get 4GB when you sign up, but if you use a referral, you get an additional 1GB and the referrer does too.

Possible referrals posted:

deozaan - https://koding.com/R/deozaan

Its really nicely done, and with a ton of features.  I'll post more about it if I get the time. :)

Not sure if it's better to necro this or create a new one.  In the unread topics (and in the main topic) it doesn't look like it's a new bit, i.e. your change to the topic doesn't show.  I'm making a new thread, and referring them to this one.  I guess we can split the referrals :)
