Living Room / One man's Google Interview Experience
« Last post by kyrathaba on August 21, 2013, 10:38 AM »
Google has simply shown, in my opinion, an extreme lack of respect for the interviewee. Massively delayed or non-existent communications, sloppy bookkeeping, canned responses, pandering for applicants, etc. My interviews only consisted of a barrage of highly technical questions. Not once was my resume brought up. Not once was I asked about me in an interview.

^ Cool, mouser. In good shape, I hope?
504
^ Ok, thanks Carroll. Glad it arrived.
505
^ But only because their parent company, Amazon,  insists upon it, to protect its Kindle investment.
506
Nah, Google will be bought out and dissolved when Yahoo, Apple and Microsoft merge into Yapplesoft. They'll soak up all the search enginecruft and discontinue any Google appliances.
507
Sounds like Mint Cinnamon is your best bet, Mrfwishy.
508
I wonder if, say, 50 years from now, some teenager will dig a copy of the paperback out of dear old grandpappy's closet or attic chest and, upon reaching the "About the Author" in the back and reading all the references to DonationCoder, will try to find this site on the Internet. And if so, it'll still be here, without a doubt, correct? 100 years from now it'll still be here (mouser, you do have a place in your will for the continuance of DC by a staff of dedicated techie-members, down through the generations, right?)
509
@rgdot: Note that the envelope's interior bubbles should still be in good shape. Excellent for putting all kinds of delicate items in (as long as you don't sit on it by accident).
510
Now, after each of you has read the book and decided that it rocks, go to your local library and insist they buy a copy for lending to members  :P
511
I see you just took that picture in the past 15 minutes... :)
512
Cool, rgdot! That's three of you who've received your book! 40hz and cranioscopical also got theirs.
513
Only thing I have to go by so far is that Canada was $11.95 USD for media rate mail (the cheapest). Bear in mind that, as one of my proofreaders, I won't be charging you for the book.
514
What's funny is that Android, the OS underlying many tablets, is a version of Linux. It connects just fine. It's all in the engineering and how much effort gets put into making something seamlessly easy for the end-user.
515
I've never had good luck getting any linux distro to connect to my wifi. LucidPuppy would intermittently connect, at best. Other distros, of which I tried Fedora, Mint, and at least four others, I couldn't do squat with -- but then I'm ignorant about Linux.
516
Cool, that makes you and 40hz. Four others should be receiving theirs soon. Carroll's was going to Tennessee. She may have gotten hers today or will likely get it tomorrow (I'm just adjacent to her, to the north). The two going to Canada may take longer, dunno. Mouser, did yours arrive yet?

I should receive six paperbacks about Thursday 22nd or Friday 23rd.

* one of superboyac
* one for Perry Mowbray
* one for local library
* one apiece for two fellow church members
* one for a neighbor of my parents

4wd, do you want an autographed copy?
519
I'd really appreciate it if everyone would post a review on Smashwords after reading the novel. To do so, you have be a member of Smashwords and have downloaded my ebook from their site 48 hours or more previous to your posted review. I will provide a free-book coupon code for anyone willing to do this. Besides, if you've bought a paperback, you deserve the ebook free anyway.
520
Anyone else besides 40hz received their paperback by post, yet?
521
Got your info, super. Saved your mailing address and PMed you back re payment and expected delivery window.

Thanks, 40hz!

Music to my ears....

I think you'll really enjoy the read :)

Note: you have to have downloaded a book at least 48 hours earlier before Smashwords will let you review it. So, I will PM you a 100%-off coupon code, good through Aug 22nd.

I now have nine outstanding "promised reviews" -- mostly from other indie authors with whom I've traded free ebook copies. I really need two or three good reviews on Smashwords. I did notice that in the past five days, my sample downloads (people downloading 50% of the book as a sample, for free) jumped from from 20 to 36, so that's good. Stopped at my local regional library yesterday, and they're probably going to buy a copy to loan to library cardholders. Those who check the book out from the library will learn, in the back of the book, how to get their own copy, ebook and/or paperback, and my various URLs. So that couldn't hurt.
