We noticed that people spend too much time flicking between programs each with their own variations of hotkeys for identical features. Now you only need to remember one hotkey (also known as keyboard shortcuts) to command your favorite feature in any program!

HOW TO USE IT
appicon.pngFor supported programs, press the hotkey button (Capslock by default - change via system tray -> preferences) and the feature for the active application will be launched. Press it again to cycle through the remaining instances. Support for your favorite program can be added by creating an hotkey definition for that program. Update HKR via system tray icon > preferences >  Help > Check for updates.

The following applications are supported in this version: Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Chromium, Firefox, Windows Explorer for the InputBar feature. For each of these applications it will cycle through the addressbar and searchbar of these applications.

  • One smart shortcut to remember - hit it again to cycle through hotkeys for the application
  • Add your favourite applications by creating simple ini files
  • No learning curve
  • Customizable hotkey and Run at Startup option
  • DcUpdater Support

Screencast (it's hard to demo)

More information on ini structure is available in the readme.txt. See http://www.autohotke...cs/commands/Send.htm for syntax on special keys. You can edit/create definitions while the application is running.

FINALLY
Please share your comments, ideas and application definitions! This is quite an exciting release for me as its my first AHK utility that's extendable by its users.

Perhaps a program that is free with a subscription update service to send out the definitions - then again I don't think people will pay for it unless its a module as part of a bigger backup program - so theres no market for it. Ah unless software authors sponsor it so that they can include official definitions - anyway thats offtopic :P
504
The problem is supporting all the programs via a plugin system thats so easy and rewarding that everyone can use it, contibutions are automatically distributed to all users, people will be happy to spend time to test it to avoid data loss, etc. Then when a new operating system comes a long these applications might cause incompatibilities or new problems because the application data thinks its still using the old one.

Interesting ideas and problem to try and work out (perhaps for a team of 3 people) - however I've just given up on trying to find a solution and reinstall from scratch. :P
505
Ah that's the one! I never continued to use it either but I cannot remember why - it's worth a look, although I'm not sure how it functions under Vista and newer.
506
There is an app for this and it only supports the programs that the users write configuration files for, but it worked well for a variety of programs. You could get a free licence if you submitted 3 program definitions. The only issue is that I cannot remember the name. hmm google search doesn't help :( i think it was maybe russian.

can you point it to a batch file that launches ur file explorer?

How does NextFeeds help with the problem of having to stay up to date with important information from many sources? Doesn't It requires all websites to change over to this?

The best solution for me was to have more time to read the feeds - by buying an iPod Touch I now can read on the bus to work. You'd think tho that some way of pagerank for news items (based on how many sources report it perhaps or how much it is discussed) it should be possible to prioritize them.

That said I like the simple life approach :)

N.A.N.Y. 2009 / Re: NANY 2009 Release: JustCloseSomeTasks 1.13

Hi dexterous, it's a good idea in theory for your situation but it will have too many unintended consequences - forcibly closing applications will cause data loss for some people to just name one side effect so i'm currently of the view that I should not implement it.

However it should be fairly easy to do this in other ways:
* use Skrommels RunSaver (run a command as a screensaver) to close firefox when the screensaver starts
* create a new task in the task scheduler that runs when the computer is idle (windows vista and up I think or third party task scheduler)

The program itself is a small Autohotkey script:
#NoEnv  ; Recommended for performance and compatibility with future AutoHotkey releases.
SetTitleMatchMode, 2
GroupAdd, foxes, Firefox
WinClose, ahk_group foxes
Sleep, 10*1000
WinKill, ahk_group foxes

By the way is anyone still using this program? I know I haven't been very active lately - if there's still demand for updates though I might have another look at this.

I was using the SSD AAO and when i pressed start it took longer than 2 seconds to bring up the start menu, more than a second for the menu to disappear after clicking and more than 10 seconds to bring up an internet explorer window. By that time I'd fired up my ipod touch and browsed to the site in question.

And why Acer decides to ship an SSD netbook with mcafee security center installed and google desktop search so that it takes literally 5 minutes to boot up is beyond me.

The reason they chose Markdown over BBCode is most likely because BBCode requires you to type like a coder, while Markdown requires you to type like a writer. There's a lot more people that can write than that can code.

And as things like avatar images are not essential it makes more sense to use a third party service.

General Software Discussion / Re: WP plugins: donating is not the solution
« Last post by justice on June 30, 2009, 04:12 AM »
I've not read the article but I can imagine that wp plugins are too niche a market to generate any substantialprofits and availability is so high that there's no point in pro /lite versions either - people will just use an alternative free one. The only exception is a plugin that integrates with a webservice you run. You this this a lot with iphone apps that link into websites.

Maybe if you host a blogging platform based on your premium plugins but that would not market itself because you are competing with wordpress! A wp plugin by itself is just not a complete solution.

So maybe donations are not working because basing  a business on wordpress plugins is not the best idea. People are used to plugins being free.

If you choose the Acer Aspire One please don't go for the SSD model but choose one with a regular harddisk inside. Not because of the much larger storage space but because the SSD's in the AAO are painfully slow in writing (acer turns off the swap file by default!). I had to buy a 4gb memorycard and ebooster to get it running slightly quicker but not nearly as quick as the model my colleague has. Search the Acer Aspire One user forums and you'll see I'm not alone.

Ah 4wd said the same thing ;)

It's like asking the brand of your gas pedal. Who cares nobody is interested in it they all get things done. Not a popular viewpoint in the techie circles I'm sure.

To be fair this is a first preview isn't it or alpha.

Nobody is using websites around here?
