FWIW that wasn't necessarily a recommendation.  I've used both those browsers but far to briefly to make any sort of comment

be interested to see how it goes for you though

what about avant or lunascape?

they apparently incorporate multiple engines...

Exactly.  Why it's upheld as a forum for exactly that (the cornucopia thing) is more and more beyond me.

probably for the same reason that best sellers are, well, best sellers  ;)

I think that has more to do with the people who are 'extolling it's virtues' than it does to TED itself (perhaps it's a bit like the apple thing...)

gotta say I think you're going at it all wrong - TED is not a cornucopia of ideas, solutions, or answers to all the worlds questions, it's just people talking.

In some cases they're peddling their political views or some thinly veiled advertisement, other the stories are exciting or inspiring (for any number of reasons).

But they're just stories.  Take what you can use, and discard the rest

open the VBA editor (SHIFT+F11) and copy to the NORMAL document.

if there's no module associated with NORMAL you can copy the module from the existing file, otherwise just copy and paste the code (then SAVE SAVE SAVE)

pretty sure you should copy it into the normal.dotm...

this sounds interesting - Nucleo

more power, more memory, compatible with arduino shields, and cheap!

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: vCard organizer with batch operations
« Last post by Target on February 16, 2014, 06:42 PM »
did you find a solution?
Depends on what you mean by "solution".  I have a semi-automated solution that involves:
--a Mac OSX machine
--two Android apps (not free)
--two Windows programs (one is not free)

The entire setup takes about 15-18 steps for the end user to configure.

so you're not wanting to pursue a solution here?

BTW, vcf files appear to be plain text (I was able to open with notepad++), so with the exception of images (stored as base64) you should be able to do a lot of what you want with a good text editor (or even a find & replace app)

reinstall?
513

Hehe, if you only knew... ;D

I've installed (and even used) more operating systems than I can remember (not talking about Linux distros, but actual OSs), and every time I happen across any esoteric computing platform, my first thought is whether I can install Debian Linux on it.  I don't know exactly why, but it probably has a lot to do with Debian being my favorite Linux, and the fact that Debian (officially) supports 11 different architectures

wouldn't flagellation be easier?
514
The Arduino is a completely different beast than the Raspberry Pi and it's ilk, which should shape your choice from the beginning.  Don't use an Arduino for something that needs an embedded computing platform, and don't use a RPi if all you need to do can be accomplished with programmable logic.

and some of these should not be confused with compact PC's, ie the RPI/BeagleBone/etc are more like dev platforms than PC's and provide access to a range of peripherals not normally accessible from a 'normal' PC, while CuBox appears to be 'just' a compact PC

Thanks for posting about CuBox, 40hz.  Yet another thing on my "What I wouldn't do for a chance to install Debian on THAT" list. ;D

but why?

OK, so I've just done a little bit more testing on this and it's looking less and less attractive.

same scenario (excel, bot, and target app), and this time the bot started, but

  • when an excel dialog came up, I couldn't get at it, nor would excel respond in any way
  • the bot started, but the run time dialog (basically just 2 buttons) was outside of the app
  • the only way I could seemed to be able to get my apps back out of the group was to quit taskspace, but doing that resulted in an excel session without any menu bars

I never got as far as extracting any data as I couldn't control what was going on

could be this might work fine for things like editors or browser windows, though the dialog box issue would be a big question mark for me as I suspect any app might suffer from the same affliction

<sigh>
516
Looks like it only works on 32 bit win 7 :(

compatibility mode?
517
Probably because it parents the window to the taskspace window, and the bot is looking for that window as a top-level window.  But still a pretty cool app- thanks for the info for my needs :)

that's what I assumed

I really like the concept, it's something that had been in the back of my mind for a while (there's a fair bit of empty space back there...)

Now I'm going to have to do some further testing and report back

necrothread arise!!

tower defence has been popular here so this is probably appropriate - http://www.makeuseof...oring-tower-offense/
519
Looks kind of interesting.  Have you much experience with it?

I tried it briefly, but it didn't work in the context that I wanted to use it

FWIW I was running a screen scraper into excel so I wanted to group excel, the source app, and the bot in one window, but, for whatever reason, when I dragged the apps onto the task space the bot could no longer see the target app...

That said, I didn't really give it much time (I didn't really have it to spare) but I had intended to come back to it as there were a few combinations I could try...

Thanks Fenix

It's no big deal really as it still works, but if it can be fixed then it's worth posting

It's a bit curious actually as it had been working fine, then one day it wasn't .  No change that I know of that should have impacted it, but that's one of the marvels of modern technology eh

FWIW I deleted the existing folder in case of corruption and ran with a copy of the latest but the error persists.

I haven't read you're other thread about syncing your contacts, but a little bit of clarity around your workflow might be helpful

based on your post it would seem that the only use for the consolidated VCF is to sync to your file?  that being the case it would seem logical to continue to manage the individual cards separately and only merge for syncing (seeing as that's the sole purpose of the merged file).

Of course if there's some syncing from your phone (the word sync is a clue) then that's an extra consideration (does it export as a consolidated file, or as individual cards)

Well, it could get a bit more embarrassing than usual if she cuts the cheese, I'd say.

gouda one...(sorry, couldn't resist :-[)

puts a new slant on 'singles' too I'd warrant
