Wow.  Looking very nice.  For a while the site was looking too old and too quiet. Very encouraging!

DC is hopefully going to get a LOT louder over the coming months! ;)

THIS HAS BEEN RESOLVED - I GAVE UP SEARCHING AND JUST MADE IT MYSELF. - SEE REPLIES TO THIS THREAD FOR MORE INFO

I'm looking for software that works roughly like the image below:

A-Learning.png

Basically, the reason behind this is I am currently learning Italian, and I am using things like the Pimsleur Learning Course (Audio) - so it would be nice to be able to bookmark (and have it auto-remember my last place) audio tracks - import a library (also with folders) [See below for example]

Unit I
 - Italian I - Lesson 01
 - Italian I - Lesson 02
Unit II
 - Italian II - Lesson 01
 - Italian II - Lesson 02

Etc etc...

Being able to make notes at specific times in each track (IE: "This section is for X" and then being able to do things like writing a list of words/phrases that segment of the audio track talks about), would be hugely beneficial to my learning.

Bonus Points:

If the notes could be exported as html, that would be 10000x more amazing...

So...the question is...does anybody know if such a thing exists? (Freeware would be best cause I'm not rich enough to pay for things haha but I could consider commercial).

Thanks

~Stephen

Another Italian one, but absolutely fantastic video (Although, be warned this is not for the faint-hearted, and I probably wouldn't recommend letting kids watch it lol)

It might be an idea for as many of us as possible to write a "pool" of articles (that wouldn't really matter if they were released a few weeks later), submit them, and they would get posted in an order that makes sense - that way we might be able to have a backlog of maybe 2 weeks worth of articles/reviews and such so if somebody suddenly cannot commit, we have backups.

I know I personally wouldn't be able to commit to a specific day (gotta love uni life eh) but I could likely dedicate the occasional random day to writing a couple up, and adding them to the pool.

"... be nice if we could revive the old idea of DC "columnists" who would each write...".
Monthly would even be welcome.
I really need to check in more often.
Started in 2007.
My loss.

I know it wasn't reported here, but we just finished fixing all the date/versions that were wrong on a lot of mousers software.  The downloads themselves were not affected by this in any way, but some of his software pages reported that they were last updated in 2015, which was clearly wrong lol (My fault...we created those pages quite a long time ago and didn't think to check the info before the launch lol).  All fixed now though :)
510
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand it's fixed  :D
511
Congrats mouser and everyone, looking good!

One bug I found: clicking the "DonationCoder.com" image header on the top left of forum pages gives a 404

Good find - mouser is on the case now :D

Do we have a new favicon? In my memory it was more blueish, but now it's more green/yellowish. I think I (still) like it :)

The ssl 'lock' on my Firefox is 'complaining' that some parts of the site aren't secure, like images (browser UI talks Dutch to me, so I'm sort of translating on the fly), some configuration issue? I seem to remember that after the last server move there was something similar, and mouser fixed it pretty quick, AFAIR.

Yeah, the favicon is new :D

As for the SSL, it's a known issue - it's on the list of important things to fix :)

No bugs found so far, but even on the old, slow laptop I'm on now, the site is blazingly fast. Wow!

Yeah, the new server and member server are both REALLY nice spec! Should make the whole experience (and downloads, etc) a LOT faster even when there are a huge amount of people online :D

It's 5 in the morning so...that's far too in-depth for this hour...but I really think that at any hour...none of that is required when you consider the following:

- People use Facebook...
    - Facebook is a simple platform to get content to the masses
        - It's 2018...Social Media is king

In terms of what we post -

- Automatic feed from the DC blog (automated stuff doesn't get read much)
- Memes...they get attention and reactions
- Random tech/science news (reactions, comments and shares)

More shares = more fans = more reactions = more visibility = more fans = well...you get the idea...

The more followers we get on the Facebook page, the more direct content we can show to people...It really doesn't need such in-depth analysis.

The ONLY analysis things like this need is:

Do people use Facebook? (Yes)
Does Facebook increase your exposure? (Yes)
Can it be effective? (Yes)
Is it Easy? (Yes)

If all = Yes...do it.

Well, in terms of bringing in new blood, it can do the world of good.  We can share our content to the masses and put it in front of them in the main place that most people visit.

Being able to get onto peoples Facebook walls (We have to understand that in 2018, a HUGE amount of people visit websites because they saw something cool on a FB Page) is a huge part of marketing. We don't pay for ads to be run on/for DC so we don't really have any "reach" other than the occasional techy website reviewing us.

For a website to thrive, rather than just survive, you have to always look at ways to get more people onto your site, and interacting with it.  Perhaps some of the facebook page fans will never visit the website, but if they are sharing the posts we make on there, then the chance of one of their friends seeing it and visiting us/signing up/donating greatly increases.

My one and only aim with this is to give DC another platform from which to share content from and generate more interest.

On a side note:  It might also mean we get new blood on the forum, because as of recently it has mainly been the same 10 or so people posting...and although yes it is keeping the posts flowing...more people = more content = more fun!

Yeah it's odd that it wasn't posted here - perhaps one of us mentioned it on IRC or something last year.
