General Software Discussion / Re: WordPress / online WYSIWYG html editor?
« Last post by brotherS on March 31, 2008, 07:41 AM »
I feel so 1337! ;D I just remembered something from a basic html course I took ~6 years ago and tried it with a <cr> tag. Works!

<P align=center><STRONG><FONT size=5>Headline here</FONT></STRONG><cr>
<FONT size=2>Smaller font line here</FONT><cr>
<cr>
Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test Test </P>

So I think I now want a better WYSIWYG editor where I don't have to make those kinds of changes manually.

Oh, and WP ignores "align=center" and won't center that line.

Still testing out http://www.creatingo...r/html_generator.htm

I can't seem to get this working correctly: directly under the headline there should be no empty line for spacing. But in the editor, every time I hit enter, it creates an empty spacing line. Those lines aren't in the html code (see below), so is this a html limitation I somehow have to work around?

<P align=center><STRONG><FONT size=5>Headline here</FONT></STRONG></P>

lanux128 found one for me when I needed one.
Thanks, that makes a really good first impression!

Integrating another editor into WP is a bit too much for my technical understanding of it. :)

General Software Discussion / WordPress / online WYSIWYG html editor?
« Last post by brotherS on March 31, 2008, 04:42 AM »
Hi,

since WordPress is a bit limited in regarding how the text could be formatted, I'm searching for a free online html editor. Any good ones out there?

I assume I could then copy and paste the html code into WordPress.

General Software Discussion / ripping a streamed news show to HD?
« Last post by brotherS on March 29, 2008, 06:31 AM »
Hi,

on http://broadband.bnn.ca/bnn/?id=4446 there's a show from 03-11-08 (see right hand side navigation). Do you see a way for me to download that show/rip it to HD? Hopefully without having to install tons of software. :D

I've never worked for any ******* as unreasonable and demanding as myself.
But, then again, I've never worked for anyone else.

It's okay, as long as the profits are high.

When surveyed, most entrepreneurs said they don't want to have a job again even if they were to get twice the $ amount of what they were earning now. I can second that, it's a great experience even if the profits are NOT high!

OK, then I totally agree, THAT kind of oneness IS indeed very unlikely to happen to someone who is healthy.

(And the kind of oneness and peace I was speaking about isn't spread that far either.)

Deozaan: thanks for sharing, interesting experience!

The euphoria and feeling of being one with the universe is probably very unlikely to happen to someone who is healthy.

I can't second that. After some years I'm now able to experience this feeling of 'oneness' and inner peace quite often, it's more a way of being for me now instead of a rare event - and I don't need drugs (not even legal ones). It's not euphoria, but it surely feels good!

I reduced my anger to zero and my fears to something close to zero. Now, many people claim they have no fears... until I mention public speaking and cold calling. :D

I have been called idealistic, and I do dream of a better, more peaceful world.

Don't just dream of it, become peaceful and...

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Locate 3.0 - great *FAST* HD search tool!
« Last post by brotherS on March 27, 2008, 06:12 AM »
hmm... it'd be great if dopus had locate built into it! as it is it's search is superfast, but it takes a while for the first search to complete each time you open it...
Then don't close it!  8)

Seriously, always let one Locate process run, schedule automatic updating of its database(s) and you can always rely on blazing fast, accurate search results.

When a Brain Scientist Suffers a Stroke

As a Harvard-trained neuroanatomist, Jill Bolte Taylor has always known more about brains than most people. But when a brain hemorrhage triggered her own stroke, she suddenly had a front-row seat on the deterioration of the brain.

[off-topic]
I think most people who have problems know pretty well that they have them and to which extend they do.

Most? Maybe. And many people don't, and don't know how to get better.

Over the years I spoke with several people (online and offline) who openly admitted that they then did have problems. The awareness was there, but most weren't actively searching for 'a way out'. They just accepted their misery for the time being.

Just charting them probably helps to improve their situation as much as watching TV and writing down which episodes you watched improves your life.

And focusing on the good things, as you suggested, is not bad per se, but probably not better than a chart or mood journal.... Where's the medical evidence showing that it works that well, and for which pathology? And for how long? etc.

I read twice about research that writing down 'the good stuff' does help. maybe just because it shifts your focus. I'm reading a lot so I don't remember where exactly I read it.

You seem to agree that the main problem is the knowing/doing gap: knowing about a problem is miles away from doing something about it (which is often easier than assumed).

Private messages welcome, it really gets a bit off-topic. ;)

A grateful journal and a mood diary serve two different purposes.

Charting your moods allows you to understand yourself better and make changes in yourself, situation and surroundings.

Developer's Corner / Re: super simple language?
« Last post by brotherS on March 22, 2008, 03:36 PM »
I write tons of batch files to do small chores on my pc.. some of these ask me for input, or send me a message.
These work just fine, but the text boxes just look too old fashioned to have anyone else use these.

Is there basically a very simple language thats not much more than just a a version of batch files, that uses proper windows boxes to send messages and get input?

Autohotkeys kinda does some of this, but...

Yes, AutoHotkey, no but ;) https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=1167.0

Basically I want to boot up, and have a window to ask if I want to run my IM cleint and a couple of other things that normally load.

If I don't answer in a few seconds, they will load by default.  If I say No, it will complete without these loaded..
Startup Delayer comes very close: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=1399.0

You still want to be unhappy, eh?  8)

The most simple solution would be to use a .txt file for the gratitude 'log' - then you could either open it manually or write a simple AHK script to open it daily to prevent you from forgetting about it.

The black circles on the mood lines show the days you have written describing text for the moods. For the yellow "love line", there is a tooltip (appears on mouseover) showing what happened that day to make the love line go so low (the breakup).
That's a great idea! ...if your goal is to stay as unhappy as you are.

You get what you focus on, so forget about the 'bad things' that 'happened' and write a daily list of 5 or more things you are grateful for. If you can't find big things ("*great* evening with some friends") start with something small ("breathing is painfree").

I'm not kidding.

brotherS: do you already have a place to host, or do those $100 include both webdesign and hosting?

I have no idea what design or templates would cost, but you can get simple hosting for far less than $100/month :)
I bet! ;) No, I already secured a host, I only need the webdesign.

Living Room / Homepage for about $100?
« Last post by brotherS on March 07, 2008, 05:03 AM »
Hi,

I'm considering to get up a homepage to test a business idea. Since it might totally fail I don't want to invest too much... is it possible to get a professional-looking, simple site for about $100 that includes - like an extended business card - only a page of text, a page with contact information and a contact form (info entered would be sent by email to me)? Where?

In the past I tried a do-it-yourself system where you just modify an existing layout, but although I spent lots of time with it I wasn't happy with the result.

Living Room / Re: could wall colour help or hinder your work?

who knows, maybe if I paint the walls bright yellow I'll never procrastinate again :-*
You wish!  ;D

Better check out Neil Fiore's book, as recommended by many, including our beloved Steve Pavlina: http://www.stevepavl...evelopment-books.htm (some great books on that list!)

No idea regarding wall colors, I just remember reading painting your rooms red DOES reduce heating costs slightly because it 'feels' warmer than white to your brain and thus to your body.

Basically, just post what annoys you more than anything in the world.
Nothing anymore. Yes, life IS good.  :)

PS: I had a car crash, my PC died and I lost a substancial amount of money in 2008 so far.

PPS: US private banks surveyed clients with a net worth of $38,000,000 and more - and 65% said they felt "financially insecure"... so to me, working on enjoying life more is the key, learning how not to be annoyed by 'stuff' around you. To not annoy others 8) let's keep the discussion on topic, but feel free to PM me if you like.

No, I didn't. Locate indexes everything I have and is great to use with the keyboard. I don't miss anything and since time is an issue I'm not actively looking for alternatives.
