FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FARR plugin: FARR Windows Search 0.1.0
« Last post by dantheman on June 05, 2009, 05:24 PM »
phitsc,

I too am for not expressing myself correctly.
Yes, i did install the propsys.dll into the Windows/system32 directory.
That's why i rebooted.

After taking a peak at the link you gave, my system is in perfect shape and i don't plan on installing any registry tweakin' program as i'm not feeling any major slowdown in system operations.

I've used NOD32 before and there were no problems in that area when i first experienced that error message.

Patience!

With last free WinZip version, i installed propsys.dll to manually created folder within FARR plugins section (after online Jotti's malware check), rebooted and still get same error message.  :(

Will follow up on your link later on in the day. Thanks!

Just curious.

Is it normal that the extracted files to your plugin be dispersed in the FARR plugins section?
All the other ones have their respective folders.

Also, i wonder why i would need this propsys.dll on a freshly installed OS without any tweaking programs like CCleaner running?

PhilB66,

Is that link to the "Top 150 Popular Firefox Extensions and Opera" still good?

BTW, i once had a shortcut link to make a quick history search.
Are you familiar?

Update: Tamil just helped me out.

Create shortcut to: opera:historysearch?q=help

I like dat one!

phitsc,

Actually, as i said, it was a hunch.
After receiving the alert to this post, i decided to try again.
Closed FARR, installed it to plugins section, restart FARR and still get same error message.
This time, i don't have any tweaking software on my recently re-installed notebook.
Sorry!   :o

phitsc,

It's probably a corrupted file.
You know, i've been using one of those registry fixers (one of the most used freeware versions) and my hunch is that program does perhaps more damage than anything else.
Of course, files do go corrupt too.

I've installed it in plugins section while program was still open, exited, restarted it and get this message:

Interesting find JennyB!
Would be nice if it could interact with OpenOffice Suite.

Reminds me a bit of http://officezilla.com/
Just a bit!   :)

General Software Discussion / EPIM RC2
« Last post by dantheman on May 05, 2009, 03:31 PM »
For what it's worth...

Folks at EssentialPIM invite beta users to try out their RC candidates.
For whatever reason, whenever i try them i get an "access violation 007F30D1 in module..." error message and can't even open the program.

The programmer over at EPIM tells me it's something to do with my XP SP3 security system that's blocking it.
I asked him to give me some idea on how to unblock it but he never comes around to specifics (that doesn't pay enough i guess). So i was wondering if some techie here could tell me if it's my operating system that's making life miserable for me or if it could be the program itself that lacks proper coding?

I've done this many times with different releases and it only happens on non-official editions.

That's what i thought.

Clif wrote in to say that he's "very been busy."
Nothing more than work. People still do that. But he must be extemely busy 'cause he usually sends a message to say so even if he does publish anything.  :o

Come to think of it. It's been at least two to three weeks since his last newsletter.
Will have to write him a note to see if he's okay.

Tomos,

If my memory serves me well, yes i did try it and liked it.
It seemed quite reasonable on ressources but our community has since gone to NOD32 Security with AV for the next two years so i won't be looking around for free stuff for quite a while now. ESET is exceptionally low on ressources. You hardly even notice it's there.

Can't say the same for AVG (to which we were previously subscribed to).

Fasterfox and that other one, FireTune have never done anything noticeable (at least on my notebook with Network connection) so i wouldn't even be bothered to try it on Minefield.

Does it make page rendering faster too?

(I'm content with loading time).

If there's one thing i can't complain about in FF3, it's the non-existence of CPU overload and ressource usage.
Albeit, i rarely have more than 5 tabs open.

Nevertheless, it's an issue that happens often with Maxthon2 and occasionally with Opera.

I like to keep a "minimum" of bookmarks in Firefox as i do appreciate the url box features (like the "ahsome bar") that i've enhanced with other extensions.

Basically, keeping FF minimized not only helps for quick starts (obviously) but also keeps ressource usage to a minimum.

Cyberdiva,

Just do a search to find .urlfilter for opera and you'll find a way to block most ads in Opera.

Firefox always takes a long time to load when computer is booted up or restarted.
After that, it usually doesn't take mine much more than 8 seconds.
I've read elsewhere that this is the way the Mozilla browser behaves.

I can't do away with qtl, SlimSearch (SimilarWeb recently discovered) extensions for Firefox.
Adblock Plus of course is standard installation but i'm also an avid Diigo user (which recently acquired Furl bookmarking services). Too many bookmarks will slow down your startup process and i'm trying real hard to keep them low in FF. That's why i'm using Diigo as complimentary/backup to my bookmarks.

Thanks Shades (and Deozaan).

I finally managed to remove the second XP Home with the installation CD but, seeing that there was some kind of "bond" between it and the first, i had to re-install the whole system.

Nothing too serious but when you leave your computer unattended, i guess you can expect a few surprises.

The important thing is to always keep a backup of your data files.

This is how you can reduce or remove the dual boot delay:

WARNING: MESSING AROUND WITH THIS STUFF COULD CAUSE PROBLEMS. DON'T DO IT IF YOU'RE UNSURE.

1) Go to Start -> Run and type in "msconfig" (no quotes) and click Run.

2) Switch to the BOOT.INI tab. You'll see a "Timeout: 30 sec." option. Change the number of seconds to whatever you like.

3) Press OK. It may or may not make you reboot at that time. Either way, the next time you reboot it should only delay the number of seconds you entered in there.

Hi Dezonaan,

After looking into that partition i created (what a monster!),
i noticed that it was almost full! From what i can guess, i also installed XP Home on it.
I only want a partition to stock data, i don't need another operating system...   :'(

Hi,

I was setting up a partition when someone rang at the door.
When i came back, i found the computer was being reinstalled by itself.
Can't figure out how that ever happened!

Anyway, now i've got a dual XP Home start up screen with 30 second delay.
Can someone guide me on how to remove one of the two or simply take off the delay?

Thank you!

Getting some good tips here.

"À tout malheur quelque chose de bon!"

Anyway, i was up to 1,700 bookmarks!
This was due in good part to using Diigo which allows you to save to Firefox as well.
Disabled that option and did some early Spring cleaning, now i'm down to about 1,250.

Already, i've noticed that FF has a preppier startup but boy! Is page rendering ever fast in latest 3.0.6 build!

...I now can't uninstall the dysfunctional Real plugin.

So I have a piece of Real crap hanging around that I can't get rid of nor can I update.  Really burns my biscuits.

/rant off - thanks for listening

If you have FEBE or Mozbackup, it's a sync to setup a new profile without your Real extension.

Personally, since i've recently had issues with extensions, i've been basically setting them up almost one by one. Although i like FEBE (which i haven't re-installed it yet) MozBackup (less options) has been pretty good.

FF3 has been loading under10 seconds lately.

Good for you stoobee!  :)

And welcome to DCF!

7 extensions is a pretty safe amount i would say.
Problem is that i like to try new ones.

Question is, do extensions have conflicting issues with others or with the browser or both?

Does re-installing extensions all in one shot using FEBE for example have an impact or is better to re-install them one by one, separate from the other?

You know, sometimes i wonder what the impact can be between extensions themselves?

I mean, perhaps you only have 7 extensions but maybe one of those doesn't like the face of only one other in the group.
Could this happen if there were even more like 30?
