General Software Discussion / Re: Windows 10 Privacy Concerns
« Last post by anandcoral on August 03, 2015, 04:21 AM »
Well my take is simple. I use computers for living.

I do not like MS neither Google. I like my clients. If they use MS or G. and pay me to make something for it, I do it. I use computers for living.

I like Linux. I like my clients. If they do not use Linux and neither pay me, I do not use it. I use computers for living.

I like privacy. I like quick information for my work. If MS or G. knows what I do, I let them know. I use computers for living.

Installed VirtualBox and WinXp on it.

I am happy  :D Thanks a lot. In full screen WinXp looks like normal Xp machine and my son can understand the control panels correcly. Though the help was wanting Google helped in most cases. Also VirtualBox ver. 5 is better if not best from earlier version, as I found out.

I now feel this is better approach than the Xp boot usb.
1. I get to work in same file both from Win8 64 bit and WinXp, via shared folder.
2. No reboot
3. I can check my programs in Xp as a separate machine without all default installations in main machine. This helps to find out all missing dlls.
4. Can check my 16 bit programs, before converting them. My OS is 64 bit

Anand

Does it really validate an email ?
or is some joke !

Yes, we have copied codes from "Learn in n days.." books and also have got some in accompanied CDs. But those were always taken , and were, sample codes.

Now in StackOverflow and other website they give solution to "How to I send mail in .Net ?" and these fellows think that they have got the gold mine. Just copy them and you can send the mails.

There is no understanding of the working of the copied code, forget about doing some testing on it.
505
I was wondering, when a new appointee in our office developing a .Net project, was searching StackOverflow and copy - pasting codes in the project. Since he was not under me, I just wondered how he is going to get all codes for the project of our clients.

As expected all codes were working except the product. The client ran away.

Now I see this is how all new programmers are learning to code, copy - paste.

Why there was no help for us when we were working hard to read a text file correctly, which had some lower ASCII characters in it.

I understnad this will make a usb bootable xp setup, like a cd/dvd.

I was looking for something like,
1. boot from usb
2. start Xp
3. more or less all standard options
4. access hdd for document files
5. all xp required files shd be in usb itself

Now that usb size are going GB and above, latest computer / laptops having os win 8 and above, I am finding it difficult to show the xp screen and control panels etc. as given in my son's school books.

It is difficult to show him Win 8.1 control panel and tell him think it is Xp control panel !!

My old Xp machine has conked and repairing it is costing more that a new Win 8 machine.

Any idea how I can get it ?

Anand

Thanks Curt, this will help save me time when I use this version.

Hmm.. so the requirement is,
to sort desktop icons of a customer,
quickly search for an icon (file),
do the job,
restore back the icons as they were.

My solution :
do not touch the desktop,
open File Explorer,
select desktop,
type in 'Search Desktop' for quick search,
or right-click to sort icons,
do the job,
the desktop icons remain as they were.

How about using DesktopOK, http://www.softwareo...e=Freeware/DesktopOK

From the website:
Save and restore the positions of icons.
DesktopOK is a small but effective solution for user that have to change the screen resolution often.

I have used it long time back, in Win98 days.

questorfla, see if it solves your problem.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Clipboard Help and Spell - New Name?
« Last post by anandcoral on April 24, 2015, 05:42 AM »
Why ?

Even after you rename it something else now, you will find it not properly named after 5 years.

The technology keeps changing, advancing, so a name which looks perfect may seem wrong in few years. When Bill named his company Microsoft, then the micro computers and software was in his mind. Now there is no micro computers as we know and software has become apps. Also we know how people make fun of the name "micro" and "soft".

Even my app Overlap Wallpaper name looks wrong. It should be "Overlap a photo on the desktop Wallpaper" and people have pointed it to me.

My advise : Do not worry. "Clipboard Help and Spell" is not a bad name and it still signifies it purpose. Rest is up to you.

Anand

N.A.N.Y. 2012 / Re: NANY 2012 Pledge & Final Release: Tell When Done
« Last post by anandcoral on April 18, 2015, 06:33 AM »
Added 'download" buttons for at least the latest version on all the apps download pages.

What I have noted that, when I designed the websites in google site, it was very simple i.e. not very complex. People could easily download files and I could easily make changes. Slowly slowly many options have been added by google and the default download links layout has been drastically changed, confusing people.

The logic of download button I found at somewhere else on one of the google site recently and started using it whenever I updated my apps. So the older apps webpages remained without the button.

Afraid if google decides something against the google site and auto adds ads etc. to them.

Anand

Thanks Curt and Mouser.

Yes, we geek sometime forget that for a normal user it may not be obvious.

I should have fixed it for Tell When Done download page, when I was fixing for Overlap Wallpaper download page. I promise to fix it soon and my other free apps download pages too.

My apologies to all who had to face the download problem.

Hi BONZ, please do not panic  :)

I checked and found the website and the download page is working https://sites.google...endone/home/download

I am also giving the direct zip file download link for version 1.6.0 https://sites.google...tredirects=0&d=1

May be Google had some DOS problem, that time. Please check again. Thanks for your feedback.

Hi Tao, what Miles says is right. I remember using a utility, can not remember the name properly now, something like ATTUNE or so. I used it during Win98. It had options to run before installing a program, when it created snapshot of the current system files, registry etc. Then after installing the program, run ATTUNE (?) which again creates the snapshot of the files and registry changes.

Now when I need to uninstall the program, I run ATTUNE (?) and it restores the system and registry changes. But this caused problem if I have installed some other programs in between or Win updates happened etc. This program (ATTUNE ?)did not work in new Win version and I did not find the updated so I left it.

At present I think you can use Sanboxie, as per your requirement. Your main system remains clean when you remove the program in Sandboxie. I have not used it but others here may have idea of it.

Anand

To clarify -- I cannot afford (mentally or monetarily) to take on work at those kinds of rates :)
The idea I was proposing was like a raffle, so that if many people donate, only one would win a prize of having their custom app created.
But i think the main problem with this is pretty real -- that  very few people would care about or have need for this "prize".

I was thinking of offering some specific required features in my already released NANY apps against some donation. But this is year end time in our country and I am too tied up with my project works, so I can not promise. If I get offer, and I find time, I will try to help DC here.

From developer point : it is good news. Write once and run in both Android Phone and Windows machine.

Java existed much much before than Android happened.  I remember how our company tried to make Java applications so that we can sell to Win, Linux and also Mac users. Same logic write once and run in all. The problem, Java was very very slow on Windows. There were none Linux desktop users. We tried to 'educate' some clients on the benefit of free Linux OS, but failed miserably. The clients always had some Win version and wanted out program to run fast and efficiently on 'their' machine.

We abandoned Java. I know how much time I devoted to learn Linux OS and Java then. My machine was dual boot with Win and Linux and tried to keep Linux as my main so that I can develop our program. All this is past, and some how I regret wasting time on Linux. I learned that 'we have to follow our client to survive'.

Now that our clients are using Android phone, they are ready to pay for our applications on it. If Android apps run on Windows, then the same program may scale up the screen size and show more information.

As for Google being evil, our hands are tied. We have to follow our client, and they use MS and Android.

I never got chance to develop for Mac or IOS, though I can not say Apple is nor evil. Even Facebook is turning evil, but we developers can not ignore them.

Anand

Twinbee,

You can try SuperF4 (free), http://superf4.googlecode.com/.

It is must have app for me. Since I develop programs, many a times they go into infinite loop. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+F4 instantly closes them, even faster that opening task manager and searching and killing it.

I also use it to close FireFox at times when I have lots of tabs opened and one tab causes FF 'not responding'. Killing FF and then restarting it get me all tabs back and then I close the erroneous tab and have other tabs to read.

Developer's Corner / Re: Syntax in Different Programming Languages
« Last post by anandcoral on March 27, 2015, 03:28 AM »
mouser you are near what I want. http://hyperpolyglot.org/ has the comparison side-by-side.

But it is grouped in similar type of languages but I want any languages side-by-side. Say I know VB and want to convert an VB app in C#. Logic does not depend on any language, just the syntax I need to know when I am stuck. hyperpolyglot is not allowing for VB and C# comparison. That's why I was thinking of making the sheet and having option to hide columns to get two languages side-by-side comparison.

Or may be there is a website as I want in the wilderness.

skrommel !!

( Though I am not a lost member, I beg everyone to allow me to wish to skrommel. )

I knew you were busy somewhere and will come to us one day :D

You do not know, but I am indebted to you. I have learned Autohotkey more from your codes in www.donationcoder.com/Software/Skrommel/ than from anywhere else. I feel proud to say that I have become known developer from my NANY apps due to your help. DC has given me a platform to showcase my abilities.

Though very small, all my DC credits actually belong to DC and you. I am donating mine to DC and hope it will help you to withdraw some of your credits. My best wishes for your family. Please keep visiting.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Latest FARR Release v2.217.01 - Mar 20, 2015

Got the update mesg window from FARR and updated it.

I have been using FARR since so long (Xp to W8.1) that now it seems like it is inbuilt feature of the OS  :)

I hardly thing twice before pressing the 'break' key to pop FARR to run any program I need. It has become my habit and I feel handicapped on my friends machine where FARR is not installed. Hey how you run a program ? What ? Start menu !! They look puzzled to me and I can not explain to them.
