Circle Dock / Re: Circle Dock: The Past, The Present and The Future
« Last post by sgtevmckay on December 11, 2009, 02:34 PM »
I am so frustrated I want to spit.

I pride myself on being able to find almost anything, or come up with about anything, on almost everything.
But base coding for Docklets adaption has proven incredibly elusive.

I have been dancing with programmers for a couple or more months now, and have come up empty handed, with great sorrow and disappointment.

I keep getting referred to a BaduKing (apparently a programming legend when it comes to multiple docklet integration), but apparently no one has heard from him in two years or better.

I have 2 remaining contacts to make:
I will approach StarDock (I am fairly certain where that will go)
I will approach the folks at RocketDock again (I fear that I may over extend teh kindness that they have extended to me)

@ Mouser:
I may be putting up a general call on the forum, and see if the DonationCoder brain trust may be able to direct me in a new direction.

@Markham:
I am sorry that I have been un-able to produce anything.....yet!!!  >:(

I am so disappointed in myself and my apparent in-ability to deliver at this time

Thanks for the clarification, easy to understand, thanks.

So that means that once I manage to install the software (which is not yet the case because I get an error) and turn "portable mode" on, then I can transfer the program folder to a USB memory and run it from there?

Apparently I was incorrect about the Registry statement.
I was utilizing my experience from Rainmeter..and not all programs are alike.
Please refer to Markham's last post.

I am going to make a very bold and rare suggestion. I would not do this under normal conditions...and apparently what ever condition you are having is out side my experience level, or ability to wrap my head around.

I am going to suggest an action of wait.
Wait for the release of version 1.0, and then try again.
This is something that no one every wants to hear, but it is teh best recommendation I can gice at this time.

As to your actual questions.....yes....you should be able to set CircleDock to portable mode then move the file to a thumb drive.

If this is your intent...to utilize CircleDock as a portable launcher.....I would set the configuration, and move teh file...prior to modifying CircleDock with Icons, shortcuts and folders.

I would alsop go so far as to tell you to try this, and then see if CircleDock works on other computers as a portable solution.

Circle Dock / Re: Circle Dock v1.00 Beta 1

There is no registry installation or writing...it has to do with how windows handles the "write" permissions.

If you unpackage or just install CircleDock....Windows will automatically assume that the software is to be as though it is installed software...by Default.
Windows will then automatically create AppData files to handle the information through the Windows Read/Write standard

The portable option tells Windows that CircleDock will handle its own business, and windows will allow writing of information to the CircleDock folder, and not to the AppData files.

Circle Dock / Re: Circle Dock don't work on windows 7?
« Last post by sgtevmckay on December 10, 2009, 09:39 PM »
It seems that the .net framework is not installed.

I thought this was done by default in the Windows 7 OS distribution.

Do a search for .net Framework 3.5 and do an install, make sure to get the updates, and then see if CircleDock works.

The updated source code is not available as of yet...I do believe that Markham is in teh process of making this public, but I would await his word to be sure.

Interesting idea by the way  8)

I hate to say it, but I am unable to duplicate the issue.

except for attempting to run the RC with out copy and pasting the exe to the Beta folder.

I am wondering if it is not a .Net thing..Let me run some simulations over the weekend...But I running out of hope of narrowing this down  :(

It looks like you installed the RC candidate, and not the beta.

Is this the case?

@sgtevmckay: Thank you, actualy you gave me an idea! I'll try silent install of dotNet on startup prior to starting CircleDock. It should work. I'll try tomorrow...

I would be interested in teh results to be sure  8)

Welcome to Donationcoder.com and CircleDocks little corner here.  :)

The problem is listed in the error code.....this is a lack of Net Framework error

.Net framework Libraries (Dll's) are missing.

I am not sure that in the conditions you are running the OS that .net framework is available.

I have just done some really quick homework...It may be possible, but noting quick and easy.
Most notes I am finding is doing this with XP and .net framework 2.0  :-[

Greetings hondacodonbk, and welcome to Donationcoder and CircleDocks little corner of it

It looks like you have downloaded and attempted to run the beta; is this the case?

the beta needs to be placed into the folder of the CircleDock, and this beta CircleDock exe replaces the original.
If you already have a full version, you can try and skip the next step of downloading teh full circledock
Download this version here:
CircleDock setup
Then install appropriately

When done, and if you wish to utilize the beta.
Download the following file.
Beta exe
Then from the zipped folder eplace the original CircleDock.exe file.

You may wish to move or rename the original circleDock.exe file in case the Beta has some issue that does not agree with your system.

If you utilize the Beta and have any issues, we really wish to hear about them here so Mark can get a fix on it.

If you continue to have issues, let me know

Once again welcome, and have fun ;)

Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Rainmeter 1.1 now available!!!
« Last post by sgtevmckay on November 09, 2009, 05:35 PM »
Greetings folks.

I am sorry and I meant no disrespect in getting this notice here at DonationCoder.com sooner, but good lord have I been busy.  :-[

To the meat of the situation:
Rainmeter 1.1 has been released and is better than ever.

Not only have we fixed a handful of target issues, so that it can be properly utilized in Windows Vista and 7, Rainmeter is moving forward.
I do not wish to go into too much detail, with out writing up a full review, which I do not have time for at the moment  :(
We have also had a number of new programmers come forward to assist in the expansion of Rainmeter and we are proud to offer the latest release to everyone.
The Rainmeter forums have been update
There is also a new Front Page that makes navigating Rainmeter, and the various sites a breeze.
The Rainmeter Manual is being updated and fully maintained for both current and Beta releases, and is being expanded all the time.

So here is a short version of the change log:
1 NOV 2009 (Version 1.1)

    * The default value for the UpdateRate in the WebParser is now 600 (=10 mins).
    * Fix for the ToggleiTunes command in the iTunesPlugin.
    * The IgnoreRemovable now defaults to true (1) which should help with the missing disk errors.
    * Added Themes submenu to the Rainmeter's context and tray menus.
    * Variables can be used under the [Variables] section (as long as they have been defined before the current variable is read).
    * Changed RainThemes to automatically create a theme called "AutoSave" which will contain your current setup.
    * The windows stay visible with Windows 7 Aero Peek.
    * WebParser reads the resource now only if it has been modified. This can be overridden with ForceReload=1.
    * !RainmeterRefresh and !RainmeterQuit are now handled only during the event loop since they can crash the application if executed during Update().
    * It's now possible to use the measures as if they were variables (use [MeasureName] instead #VariableName#). Set DynamicVariables=1 for all meters and measures which refer to other measures.
    * New bang !RainmeterSetVariable can be used to change the value of a variable (DynamicVariables must be 1 in places where the variable is used).
    * Skin information and instructions can be added to [Metadata] section.
    * Aspect ratio of the image is preserved when the image is scaled.
    * New RANDOM function in the CALC measure type.
    * Fonts can now be stored in Rainmeter\Fonts or with the skin and not "installed" in Windows.
    * Added support for style sections. MeterStyle can be used in meters to read the values from the style section.
    * Added support for the middle mouse button (MiddleMouseDownAction / MiddleMouseUpAction)
    * The skin files can read other files with @include statement.
    * If native transparency is enabled the windows are not refreshed anymore when settings change but they are just moved to the correct location.
    * Added a version check for the skins which come with Rainmeter so they can be upgraded.
    * Path and filename of the file created by Debug=2 in WebParser is now configurable with Debug2File="[Path\]filename.ext"
    * The standard "hand pointer" mouse cursor is shown when you hover over a meter with any "MouseAction" on it or a button.
    * Added #CURRENTCONFIG# as a "built-in" variable.
    * Fixed: [Measure] contained in Action in Measure and Meter are not replaced when reading skins. They are replaced only when executing action.
    * Fixed: When the designation of Drive is wrong, a strange volume label is indicated.
    * The !bangs can be now used from command line even if there are no active configs.
    * Included RainBrowser to the build.
    * WiFiStatus: Added a variable called WifiListLimit=X that allows you control how many access points to display at a time
    * WiFiStatus: Removed all popup errors, all debugging messages now sent to Rainmeter log file
    * WiFiStatus: Fixed some memory leaks 7 and Vista users were facing

Come see what we are doing for yourself.

Now I know I missed something  :o

Time for another one of my blow hard, long winded speeches.

I first want to send along my apologies as I have been inundated with the final release of promotion of Rainmeter 1.1
It was released Nov 01, 2009, but the hit has not come until the last few days...and I have been neglectful in here with assistance, and with not having informed friends and acquaitences here about the new Rainmeter: which I will remedy soon.
Most embarrassing

I want to say thank you to Markham for taking on this excellent project and for doing what I can not, and that is program.
I am a skinner and artist of others works, and the art I do with CircleDock will continue in the not too far future as we take a break at the Rainmeter development and forum.

Mouser....You embarrass me, but I am grateful
I am 40 years old, and until the last year I have never understood what it is to take pride in what I do.
CircleDock was the beginning, CircleDock with Rainmeter has given me an opportunity to be part of something that is larger than myself, but also allows me to assist other with software I believe in.

I am humbled...Humbled my the software, the community here at donation coder, and the people that this community and environment provide.
I am also humbled by the becoming a Moderator for this little part of the community.

I will continue to assist as I can, as I have for almost a year now, and I will continue to e-mail Eric at the e-mail addresses that do not return a bad address.

I to hope for our beloved V.I.P.'s return, and hope that one day this will happen.

Mouser....You have given me access (some time ago) to some space here at he forums for my own bidding.
I would suggest the use of this as a new launch page for CircleDock...I have approached teh Admin. at wikidot, but there feelings are that any unapproved modification, at this time, would be grossly inappropriate...I respect that, but the word for Markham's work, and updates to CircleDock must be more publicized.
Since I have truly obtained a number of connections for software and media outlets. I would approach these places with the latest information.
I would also propose to make teh spave that you have so graciously given a new front page for CircleDock, and maybe we can get the page up, loaded, and Google (and others) to recognize this as a new front page.

I ask this through a lump in my throat, as I am overjoyed and emotionally hit by the unexpected trust and praise.
What say you folks?

Living Room / Re: I am looking for the best DIY/Barebones Laptop......
« Last post by sgtevmckay on October 21, 2009, 11:55 AM »
Have no concerns folks, as I have been build computers for a long time (from simple Desktops and laptops to Large Array N.A.S. and blade servers) even a few things that were state of the art 20 years ago (Solid State LOL)
I am comfortable with building systems.

I am opposed to further buying pre-made systems, just as in Desktops: they never meet my needs or expectations. Very few systems are built balanced. I am stuck with a Gamer or a worker and almost nothing in between. Very few systems come with a straight OS install, or are willing to give up the OS discs any more. Bloated proprietary software.
The list can go on and on.

Laptops are becoming more popular than desktops, or at least the sales numbers support this and laptop parts are becoming more affordable. Therefore worth my wild, and yes: to my customers as well.

I am appreciating all your folks assistance in all this.
I had honestly hoped for more sites that have DIY kits, because with a laptop - this is where it starts. There is no one case for all MoBo's in teh laptop world.

I have been building on OCZ DIY systems, and am very happy, but myself and my clientele are looking for more.

I am looking for the best DIY/Barebones Laptop kit(s).

I am looking for a Quad core (minimum) solution in AMD or Intel
Ability to run twin Monitors out is a plus.
Dual Hard Drive capacity is a bonus
Dual Optical Drive would also be a bonus
A 17in or more screen is required (High Res Prefered)

Cost is not an issue.
Part's size is not an issue (Laptop or full size parts are acceptable)
End product weight is not an issue.
Battery life is not a major issue.

I am looking for assistance to develop a list of what is currently available and places to buy. Since I apparently am incapable of finding resources beyond NewEgg or Tiger Direct (Occasionally).

So what is out there and what is available these days?

Actually ObjectDock adapted a third-party solution into ObjectDock to obtain this ability.
There are any number of software, that are free, that can accomplish this for you. Outside of CircleDock.

I may be in teh minority on this, but do to the way that ObjectDock implemented this solution, I would be hesitant to have this solution added to CircleDock.
